Choosing the right temperature for your spa depends not just on personal preference, but safety and money too. Here's everything you need to know about setting your hot tub temperature check it out. Mechanics new hot tubs usually have a limiter to prevent your spa's temperature from exceeding the cdc's recommended 104 degrees, fahrenheit or 40 degrees celsius.

Some older hot tubs might allow you to go past this limit, but it doesn't mean you should, even though your hot tub likely has a built-in temperature limiter, keep a separate thermometer, handy you'll, be able to quickly confirm your spa's temperature and spot any potential hardware problems Such as overheating or heating failure, now here's how to find the right hot tub temperature for you. We recommend, starting off with the average normal body temperature, which is 98.6 degrees, fahrenheit or 37 degrees celsius. If it feels too chilly slowly increase the temperature until you're comfortable. Now remember: children, elderly people and pregnant women are more sensitive to higher temperatures than others and you're probably also concerned about how much energy your hot tub consumes.

You might even think about lowering your hot tub's heat setting when you're not using it just to cut energy cost, but lowering the hot tub temperature might not be saving you as much money, as you think. If you use your hot tub regularly and lower the temperature setting between each use, you actually might be increasing your energy costs. Reheating, the tub each time, not only burns extra energy, but it puts a strain on your spas heating element which has to work harder to raise the water temperature than it does to maintain it. Your heating element can also wear out more quickly, which means you'll have to replace it more often.

So how low can you go if you live in a warm climate? You use your spa during the summer. You can definitely use a lower hot tub temperature. If it's say 100 degrees fahrenheit outside you may consider keeping your spa turned all the way down to 85 degrees, fahrenheit or 29 degrees celsius and depending on the weather and the ambient temperature. You may also turn your hot tub heater off and allow the water to cool completely turning your spa into a miniature pool.

However, if you live in a colder climate, you need to watch out for freezing. We do not recommend setting your spa's temperature at 85 degrees. Fahrenheit or turning the heater off, especially during the winter, a frozen hot tub can mean burst, pipes and damaged hardware in a cold climate. Consider wrapping your hot tub pipes with insulation to help protect them from freezing temperatures, and that's it that's how to find the perfect temperature for your hot tub.
