In this video, Joshua goes over multiple times that the government has controlled temperatures. Some have blamed Climate Change for their reasoning to set temperature limits on HVAC.
Sometimes it's to save energy, but other times, it has been to protect tenants from landlords being too cheap. Some countries, in order to save energy, are starting to regulate how high or low a temperature can be set in public spaces. Is this a sign of things to come? Will there be politicians introducing bills in the near future controlling how high or low you can set your thermostat?!

The thermostat itself also heats up, there is some temperature error.

Stayed in a 4-star hotel with HOT hallways. They only had so many working units and they needed MORE than that number to accommodate the guest rooms! I KNOW as they screwed me over allowing the maintenance staff to NOT address my room as I’d notified the front desk. When I returned after a wedding the room was hot and they claimed no one was on duty!

Sorry, my point was: they wouldn’t spend the money to have enough units for all areas. I don’t think they had ANY ideas toward saving money!

Here’s the deal. I’m in TX and just had my electricity rate DOUBLE. It’s complete BS. Why? Because prior to doubling, I have a $350 bill – and we keep it at 79 degrees…and sweat!!! What the government doesn’t seem to comprehend is people aren’t simply leaving their AC on 65 all day (well I’m sure some, but not most). The issue is in efficient homes! It’s either single pane windows, not enough insulation, wood doors that let heat in, and then to top it off your house can get direct SUN ALL DAY LONG. For me specifically, we have horrible windows and get sub all day. Our insulation is good. But I’m not about to go spend $30k on new windows when I know I’m not going to stay in this house and won’t get that money back when I sell. So sure, I have Sun screens bolted on the windows, we have blackout shades in every room….but RADIANT HEAT STILL GETS IN! And then when you have a two story that’s open plan with vaulted ceiling, the house is hot all day long! I wish I could cut the upstairs AC off, but we have to sleep and have kids in the house! So this is what drives me insane about rates and electricity use! THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO CAN ISE LESS ENERGY ARE THOSE WITH NEWER HOMES AND/OR SPENT THOUSANDS IN ENERGY UPGRADES! Service area Orleans??

75’f is bad enough! Forget 80’f

Many of you have smart meters with utility 5G comm. Your AC can be reduced remotely in some cases by utility or govt. based on urgency.

I keep Both of my Daikins that they installed on Jan of 2022 at 72 on AC and the Thermostat on the wall stays at 68-71 with a humidity between 52 at night and during the day the humidity is between 62 – 69,sometimes it will go to 72 but that will be for a few mins then the Daikins will lower the humidity to the mid 60s.Myself I think the Daikins are keeping me cool and if the Government Cracks down I will go back to the old window ACs.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nick H says:

Your going too see people start moving North real fast if that happens. No way am I sleeping in anything over 72. I prefer 63. Service area Barrhaven??

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Billy McCullers says:

My home stays at 68°F year round… I tried a programmable thermostat where it let the home warm up during the day when no one was home, my power bill was actually higher at that point than when I kept the temperature setting constant. As for who I believe has the say over the operation of the thermostat, it’s whoever pays the bill… end of conversation…

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Keith Culvahouse says:

I alsobelieve they will set temperture standards and someday they will probably require everyone to have those air conditioning remote shutoffs. It is why i have an off grid solar and a mini split heat pump so i can keep my freedom to heat and cool as i like.

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars coolramone says:

    27* Celsius = 80.6* Fahrenheit = Uncomfortable
When I woke up this morning I could feel the humidity on my skin, not a good feeling. Temp was at 76*. I bumped it to 75* to cool and dry the air. Indoor humidity went down at least 10% from 68%? to 54% which felt much better.

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kenneth McClellan says:

I set my AC to 66 at night and 71 during the day. I like it cool! Are you in Orleans ?

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Retired at 49 says:

What enrages me is the fact that if and when our govt does this most Americans will just go ,"okay….I guess I have too because the govt said so"! They then will go out and not vote or even worse actually vote for the people who made it a law! I used to have faith in the American people to stand up to tyranny but I no longer have any faith! People have become sheep and have just accepted anything our govt does.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Skyler Dylan says:

This is insane! 78F is so damn hot. I like 21C (70C) for both summer and winter. Who are these idiots in government making these “recommendations”
Im concerned these suggestions will soon become more enforced. What a strange time we live in. Are you in Nepean ?

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars William Bennett says:

    Gov wants full control.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Keiro Keiro says:

I'm ok with government setting SEER standards and even controlling the temp in government buildings. But to dictate what private businesses or individuals do is over reach. I don't think the majority of people in th USA will go along with it. But then I think of people alone in cars wearing masks…. Service area Ottawa??

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars AnalogueKid2112 says:

Kind of a clickbait video. I know your channel is mostly US focused, so I'm going to tell you right now: there's no program or law in place in the US to mandate a certain temperature to save energy. There are, as you mentioned, ones to make sure people don't freeze in the winter, but I hope we can all agree that a minimum winter temp is a good thing.

Europe is another story though. Historically, policies and laws are less individualistic and more collectivist compared with the US. People can argue whether that's good or bad, but the reason we're seeing it now is because Europe is critically short of natural gas due to the warn in Ukraine. Things are looking bleak for the winter, so desperate times call for desperate measures. But again, this is NOT happening in the US.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars optionstraderdan says:

Hmmm, I can see this backfiring big time in large office buildings. So AC is now set at 80F, so what does everyone do? Of course, they bring in their own personal fans. I have a typical 12 inch 3 speed 110v fan that draws 0.5 Amps. Multiply that by the number of employees in your building (possibly hundreds or thousands) and yeah, I'm pretty sure your going to burn more Watts per hour than you would if you just set the AC at 76F with no fans. Once again, the government never looks that far into issues before making stupid rulings. The end result will likely cause more fuel usage, not less.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Peter Keihner says:

My AC is set at 78 while sleeping but in my bedroom shows 79.5 with 40% RH and I wake up cold most the time.
I live in south florida (climate zone 1) and since the RH is so high outside (avg. 80% all the time) and so low inside it really doesn't feel bad at those temps.
Its set to 78 at night and 81 during the day and its honestly not that bad, main reason electricity keeps getting more expensive.
I have been in houses down here where they have to set it really low like 72 to get rid of all the moisture otherwise you never feel comfortable or get black mold growth.

Your local climate will dictate what you can realistically set your thermostat to, best to avoid a federal mandate and let local and state officals come up with the best solution for the area.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars George Welker says:

This is absolutely insane if you have a decently efficient system the savings are definitely not 180 dollars a year that’s a load of poop based on worn out non maintained junk. And if your system is sized right changing the temperature that much will take hours to do, it’s been absolutely backwards thinking based on what was true in the 70s

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Miguel Quiroz says:

80 degrees is hot. Governments must find a better solution. Hopefully not here in the USA.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ricky Bennett says:

Wear your MASK & EAT FAKE MEAT set your thermostat to 80° in the summer. NOT F**king Happening!

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bob boscarato says:

I live in the Houston Texas area where heat and humidity can be very high!

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bob boscarato says:

The food we eat and our metabolic rates change with age; is the government also factoring all these changes?

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael W. Perry says:

I have no problem adapting to 82 F in summer and 62 F in winter, but I'm not everyone. Because of age or medical issues some people need a narrower range. Political efforts to dictate acceptable temperatures are likely to run afoul of that.
Also we should also keep in mind how fortunate we are that we have this degree of control. Both my parents grew up in homes warmed only by fireplaces. That took a lot of work to heat in the winter and meant they had only passive ways to keep cool in summer. Are you in Kanata ?

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bob boscarato says:

I keep my thermostat at 77 F during the summer but also use several fans and helps to keep the compressor from running too long! my 1,500 sq. ft. home is all electric and my average bill is $ 375.-

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robert O says:

Funny how there’s not enough energy for a heat wave, but they want everyone to have a electric car,
What happens when there’s a heat wave and people need to change the car for the next day, power back outs?

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bob boscarato says:

I remember when Richard Nixon was president, he had asked to set thermostats to certain temps! So this is not new. I believe we're confronting a serious energy crisis mostly man/woman made!

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Collier says:

I have a right to be comfortable in my own home. If I can pay the bill then the government should but out. I am fine with them setting minimum SEER standards, but telling me what temp I can set is a non starter. I am like you I would miserable all summer long.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Garth Clark says:

When its hot we are okay with 78 during daytime. In winter, 68 is okay at bedtime but during the day we need 70 to keep our noses from running. For sure when its hot out, 75 or 76 is a bit too cool to consider conserving energy especially when outside is 90 or above.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Garth Clark says:

It is interesting to observe how the Government works their logic. All while they are controlling the temps of heaters and air conditioners…they are selling building permits. It makes zero logic to ask people to go back to the stone ages of living comfort when at the same time the energy bases are being subjected to added dwellings and demands. If power or gas, coal, etc. is "limited" what is the point in maximum conserving if more buildings are taping into the same sources?
Once they stop building, limit population etc. then it might make some sense t ask business and residential folks to be less comfortable and conserve. Either that or simply solve the problem by producing more energy resources. I highly doubt the majority of people are wasting energy and over cooling or heating their homes and businesses. On the other hand, have you been inside a Government facility lately? Its very comfortable inside them…almost cold in summer and toasty warm in winter.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Anthony Spadafora says:

When I was a kid working with my father we went through this same crap except then it was kerosene heaters were all the rage. Besides the fires and CO deaths we had to repair a lot of bathrooms. Like you said they would set these things in the living room near the thermostat and effectively freeze the pipes in the rear bathrooms lol. My advice to your suburban and rural customers is wood heat. I had a PROPER chimney built and an EPA stove installed 8 years ago. In PA we had the Ash bore kill thousands of trees and there is firewood everywhere. The new wood stoves are really good, creating very little creosote if the chimney is correctly done and outside air is connected. Not unusually to have our windows open in the middle of winter.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars manual4life says:

Thier is reason why they pushing for electric cars . Just to control population. They don't people to be independent. They want total control

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard E says:

gimmie my manual thermostat or I can just twist / untwist the wires together.

energy star… so, if you are performing a survey for the gu’ment and came back saying “all is well as is”, you wouldn’t be getting paid for another survey now would you?
