Hey guys, Josh mcgriffin, Erhart, Phil Virginia serving the middle Peninsula and the Northern Neck of Virginia had a quick tip for you, guys. Three things that you can do if you have a air-conditioner or heat pump system that is producing a bad odor and and there's a lot of different things that can cause it some being more serious than others. But there are three things that I believe that you should do. First before you do anything else, step number one would be to have a proper tune-up done by Griffin, air and we're gon na do a bunch of different things.
We're gon na check that system. If there is an issue rather than having you crawl in your crawlspace or wherever your system is we'll take a picture of that show it to you talk about solutions. The other thing we're gon na do is we're gon na clean those coils treat the drains make that system as new as we can again, and hopefully that would eliminate the odor step. Number two would be if you have a thermostat that has what they call extended.
Runtime and there's a lot of different reasons. You might turn this on, but if you have a system, I've seen systems that are brand new and they have what's called dirty sock syndrome and again there's different things. You can do to fix that. But one thing is, you can turn the extended fan, runtime one on your thermostat and the hope and dream is that the fan will run even after the air-conditioner or heat pump turns off, and so the idea is, you got a coil here.
It's been running, it's condensating, it's got moisture on it and rather than that system, just completely turning off the coil being wet, then create a smell and then the next time it turns on. You know you got the stagnant water smell, you know and that's kind of the idea. So you turn your extended fan run time. One and the hope and dream again is to dry the coil after each use and finally step number three.
In my opinion, every system should have a UV light when they first came out. Honestly, I thought UV lights and air cleaners were snake oil, but, as time has gone on, I've heard so many success stories from people with breathing issues to things just as simple as a small odor. That's a nuisance that a UV light has taken care of that again, you could have a number of things going on and step number one, hopefully would remedy a lot of those issues. You know again, you could have something actually pretty serious going on mold mildew, something like that and may not realize that, and maybe that's what the odor is.
But in my opinion, doing those first three steps would be a good start to being a remedy to a bad odor in your home, coming out of the vents we'd love to earn your business for more information visit.
Hi! Our HVAC gives off like dusty, musty, vinegary smell at least 5 times in a day. Let day the unit will run for 5 minutes, the first 3 minutes is fresh cool air then suddenly it will blow this bad smell. AC tech came and checked the unit, he said nothing is wrong. He gave me options like repitch the coil or the UV light. Any recommendation?
Thanks for the knowledge. Any recommendations on where to start when we have the attic smell coming through to the house when ac turned on? This is an old unit..i located a seem on the air handler (by chance) that was sucking air and i taped it but it didn't correct the issue.. i might not have made it all the way around the seem due to access but i don't believe it's the only area sucking air… Any recommendations where else to look next while i figure out how to get to the rest of the seem to tape? Thanks Service area Kanata??
How about a smoky type smell in a NEWLY installed system?
My unit is only two years old and I never had this dirty sock syndrome on my old system. Is it that these new coils are made of aluminum instead of copper?
Hello. I have a question. I just had my roof done on my house and as soon as I turn on my AC I can smell like oil burning or something like that. Idk what's causing it. Can you please help me on what can it be? Are you in Ottawa ?
I'm experiencing that weird chemical like smell from a brand new central air conditioning unit recently installed. At first I noticed the smell in my master bedroom and I thought it was because of the new ductwork, they added new ductwork because the original return supply was too small. Now I notice the smell in other area in the house. Any suggestions how get rid of the smell please. It's a 3.5 ton concord unit.
Soooooooooo I installed a water heater and the venting Was pre-existing ties into the furnace vent add a wire that was busted up so I replaced all of that felt they are getting sucked through the vent on the water heater felt air come out the roof but I have a funny smell in all of my rooms… Carbon monoxide detectors are everywhere nothing is going off. Maybe the y has been broken so long and so much dust has built up on both vents that it's burning off???? Any ideas??? I'm taking it apart now
There is a STRANGE SWEET WEIRD ODOR SMELL – VERY HARD TO DESCRIBE – EXPLAIN IT coming from Heat / AC HVAC Furnace When On and driving People crazy! After Technician Check / Tested / Inspected Unit & Found: NO Crack Heat Chamber, NO Carbon Monoxide Gas Fumes, NO Olfactory Hallucination (phantosmia) – I've found the answer, I AM PROUD TO BE THE FIRST IN THE WORLD TO SOLVE THIS !!!
By turning on the extended fan, You too can move the humidity from your house up to the coil and back into your house! Donโt be cruel to Your humidity. After all, you did conceive it.
So remember to re-use and recycle Your humidity by turning on your extended fan time!๐
How much does Uv light run? Service area Nepean??
Stupid
Would you ever recommend, for wall insert ac's, putting spray bleach over the coils? This would also run down into the drain pan and sterilize it.
Thanks man
Heat pumps are stinky. I regret I bought one ๐
How about manufacturers needing to coat coils (with anti-bacterial coating) from factory instead…. old units never had these issues, and no UV lights.
