And it should be coming back online right now and it should be normal now give it one. Second, as usual, we can never make everything go perfect. So hang in there one sec, let's see if this thing resets itself. Yes, yes, yes, looks like it is and hold on just one.

Second, i'm trying to work on this so bear with me. Let's see if this thing goes, live it's normal now, okay, cool, so, for some reason hold on just one. Second, let me go ahead and transition this over. That was a great start to a live stream.

Hello, everybody yeah! I don't know what the heck was up with that i'm trying to find all my stuff now and get my bearings, because everything is jacked up, so bear with me one second here as usual, i don't understand why you can accidentally make it go to 360., but Um yeah, that is weird, very interesting. Okay, so we are back. We are normal, no 360. That would have made me nauseous.

I would have gotten all crazy and sick on that one. So hello, everybody. Hopefully you guys had a very good holiday um over here. We had a normal holiday, nothing too crazy, yeah 360..

I didn't even know how the 360 thing would even work with the standard webcam like it's, not real 360.. So i don't. I don't understand how it could do that. But yes, that was a mess and i apologize to everybody looks like uh.

This is gon na, be all jacked up now, so we probably lost half the people on the live stream like because i invited so many people to that stream and everything. That's how that works, i'm just kind of clicking a few things right now, typical that everything kind of hits the fan. So hopefully you guys are doing well. Uh, like i said we had a great thanksgiving over here uh at my house.

We do um. We try to do different stuff, so this year we did a non-traditional, thanksgiving um and we did a crab boil. Uh we've done that a couple times. I think we might have done that for christmas last year, which is really cool um, and it's super easy, like the easiest in the world, because you just throw everything into a pot and boil it like super easy, just throw some seasoning in there and to be Honest with you, it costs a little bit less than a normal um thanksgiving like with a normal turkey and all that stuff.

So it was actually pretty pretty cool um, but it was really good. You know we did uh, we cooked some salmon and then we cooked uh. You know the crab and the shrimp and all that stuff we didn't do crawfish because uh it was just gon na, be a a chore to get live crawfish flown in and i'm not really into them. That much i mean they're, not horrible, but they're.

Just not my favorite, so hopefully you guys had a good thanksgiving hello to everybody. That's in here um. Hopefully this doesn't get too screwed up with everybody, but i oh well they'll figure it out. So we are going to do a giveaway on this live stream.

I'm going to give away a shirt of your choice. Um i will uh bring up the moderator bot here in just a few minutes and it'll show you guys how to enter the giveaway at least we're gon na attempt, let's see if we can make failure. Number two on this live stream. So, as usual, i got a list of things that i want to talk about and then of course i want to get to your guys's questions and comments and things that you guys want me to cover in the chat.
Do me a favor if you guys have anything that you want me to cover, make sure that you put it in caps lock, so that way myself and the moderators can see it and then i'll try to get to it. Keep repeating your question. If i don't answer it - and if i don't get to your question, feel free to send me an email at hvacrvideos, gmail.com and i'll try to get back with you, okay, so yes um the last live stream. I believe i was teasing it, but we did get our merch delivery and everything is now in stock.

Okay. So, as far as the merch goes, we have zip up hoodies, okay, simple hvacr videos, zip up hoodies, real simple, the back says: hvacr videos. The front just has the snowflake okay, then we have the new hvacr videos flag, t-shirt. So, let's see we've got the flag on the shoulder and then it says hvac our videos on the back.

We have the beanies, we have the hats and we have everything else. So we're gon na go ahead and get this started off right now and uh. Let me click hello to everybody. That's in here right now, i'm gon na pull up the moderator bot and see if we can get this actually to work.

So what i'm gon na do is click on this button right here and let me go ahead and launch the giveaway. If i did this right, if this doesn't work, i have a backup plan so hold on just one. Second, we're going to go ahead and click start and let's see if it puts it into the chat, it's supposed to throw it into the chat, and i haven't seen it yet um there we go right there, so uh. What you need to do is just simply type merch inside the chat right now.

Someone try that real, quick someone just type merch m-e-r-c-h and you should be entered into the giveaway. Let's see if that works, just do plain merch and let's see if it works, and if it doesn't. I have another method of doing this right now so yeah there you go so um. If you are a channel supporter, then you get extra entries if you're just a normal person watching the live stream, then you get one entry into it: okay, so uh yeah, all you guys got to do is type merch m-e-r-c-h into the chat and you will be Entered we are going to do the giveaway here in about an hour.

I will draw a random person and yeah. That's all you got to do the entire time. You don't need to keep retyping it because you only get your entries into there. So the max entries you can get is three.

So if you're a channel supporter channel subscriber um, you get the extra two entries. If you're not, then you know next time uh and then just keep in mind that once you type merch, you don't need to keep typing it again: okay, because you're only going to get your entries, so the chat is going crazy right now and that's cool yeah. It's showing i'm getting a lot of people showing up in there, so i'm going to go ahead and keep on talking. You guys feel free to if you haven't entered already, enter it, but again once you've typed it you're good to go and the moderators are uh eligible too okay, so any mod anybody, that's in the chat right now, should be eligible to enter the giveaway so um.
Let's see if this keeps going, it's trying to catch up right now, yeah, it's definitely going crazy. All right, um so had a couple videos that i released last week: uh, oh yeah! Let me get back to the merch real, quick, so on the merch. You guys can check it out on the website. Hvacrvideos.Com! That's where it's available: okay! Uh! If you don't win the shirt tonight and oh that's the other thing too.

Sorry, i'm bouncing all over the place uh for tonight's giveaway. My website currently is not set up to send merch anywhere, but canada, okay, but for tonight's giveaway i will send it anywhere in the world. So if you are in another country and you do win the giveaway, i will send you the shirt. Okay, you will uh, have you know your chance and all that good stuff all right, so everybody is eligible, no matter where you are in the world, i will send you the shirt.

Okay. So, let's see what we got going on in here, yeah, we got a bunch of people popping up in there sweet all right, yeah. Definitely thanks for all the people that already ordered stuff. Okay, people were already on top of it.

Thank you so very much yeah that cool it's working. Everything is good, sweet, um, so uh the last two videos that i had this last week: okay, uh we had walking cooler, went down all right. That was the first video, and that was a really interesting one, because all i could find was that the breaker was turned off. Okay with that video right there, i kind of went about telling everybody that um, you know, even though it was just a breaker, and even though it was frustrating, i still took the time to go through the equipment.

Okay, uh justifiably, i gave the customer a list of things that i found wrong, even though that all that was really wrong. The reason why they got me out there was because the breaker was turned off. Okay, it was not tripped and in that video i don't know if i said it in the video or not, but um the i'm looking in the chat right now: okay, cool uh, cool um, so in the uh in the um video yeah good point, uh george Robles uh, it's pretty plain and simple too, that if giveaways are illegal wherever you're at then you know it's there's. We can't do anything about it, okay, so it is what it is uh.

Thank you so very much for that super chat. Thank you. I appreciate it. Um yeah first stream was messed up.

Let's see pretty sure you got ta type merch insert one through three. You shouldn't have to i'm getting a bunch of people in here right now, um you shouldn't have to type that. Let me double check to make sure i'm getting a bunch of people, so, let's see cody builds got it and what did cody builds type? This is a pain in the ass. This is why i don't like this stuff.
Yeah no cody bill's got it because he just typed merch, so no all you got to do is type merch, you're good to go. I've got a bunch of people entered right now. I don't know why i can't keep up with the amount of people that are entered so hang on just a second i'm looking at it to make sure i'm looking at my thing right now. I have like a live thing right here that says it um.

Can you approve jace brantley? Can i approve you to watch please because it won't? Let you i i don't know what to tell you, but i can't do anything with that. I have no idea why i won't let you watch um anyways so with the video uh. The reason why the breaker was turned off in that video was because the customer turns their water or their exhaust fans off every single night. Okay and my my investigation kind of told me that when they shut the exhaust fan off at night time, and then they came in in the morning and they tried to turn the exhaust fan switch on, they actually flipped the walking cooler breaker off.

So that's the only thing that i could find that would possibly be wrong with that. So, but still i went through the equipment i was super thrilled ended up finding a bunch of stuff going on with it. The equipment was very dirty. We found a couple refrigerant leaks and the customer actually already ordered new equipment after i gave them a full breakdown as to what was going on, the evaporator was deteriorated after we cleaned it, so something as simple and as frustrating as getting a service call to go Out there and flip a breaker on turned into something.

So much more, so i was frustrated that i got that call, but i bit my tongue and i went out there and we were good to go um. So you know sometimes you just got ta relax. Okay, when it comes to those service calls because they can be frustrating um, but you know i was able to uh to to to drum up a bunch more stuff going on with that. Okay and the customer was totally aware of everything that was going on.

I was very open with them, like i told them up front, hey the breaker was off, but i went through it and i found these other issues and they were cool all right. So take your time. Look at the big picture as usual because it pays off in the end all right, um, going through my list of things. The next video that i had was the beer walk-in startup commissioning video okay.

So i did a beer, walk and installation uh replaced the condensing unit and evaporator coil, and when we were, we came back the next day to do the official startup. I made sure the box was coming down to temperature. It actually satisfied the day that i was there, but i like to let it run for a day, came back out the next day and did the startup, where i just double, checked everything double checked: tightness, checked the evaporator superheat verified everything was going good, wrote down. My evaporator and condenser tds so that way, they're benchmarked for the next time, so that that's pretty important that we do that now.
Sometimes i like to do that the day of, but when i can, i like to come back the next day. Okay, because it just gives everything some time to run to make sure everything is operating properly. Now, in that situation, i did notice some issues with the uh. The condenser fan motor slightly over ramping, but i'm talking about like .10 amps or something like that.

So it wasn't anything huge uh. I did make a note of it. Unfortunately, on that equipment they're, using a lot of like no name, weird brand motors and parts and different things like that, so sometimes you know i didn't buy the equipment the customer bought it themselves. So um, let me see what else yeah chat's finally slowing down that's right, so it's going to take a while for everything to catch back up because everything's going crazy.

So let me definitely get in here i'm looking at my uh moderator bot right now to see making sure that everybody's getting entered in and definitely is um. Do me a favor guys smash the like button uh again. Thank you so very much for the super. Chats that came in this was definitely uh uh.

Did i check the sight glass on my computer? No, i didn't check the sight glass on my computer um. Let me look at the chat. Real quick hold on i'm gon na pull this up, and let me get those giveaways right now: perfect, yeah guys everybody's entered um. So far i have uh quite a few people that have entered into the giveaway.

It's taken a minute to catch up with everything, but yeah we're doing great, so um for those that just came in right now, if you uh cool yeah everybody's doing great, if you want to be entered into the giveaway for i'm going to give away a shirt As long as we can legally give them away in your country or wherever you're at, i will ship the shirts anywhere in the world. Essentially, okay, now um, i have merch available on my website hvacrvideos.com. Currently, right now we only ship to canada in the united states, but i am working on the other countries too. Okay, so to enter the giveaway.

You just simply need to type merch in the chat and you will be entered in okay and if you are a channel subscriber, you actually get some more bonus points. So um cool all right, we're gon na keep on going uh. It's gon na count down for another 50 minutes and then we'll do the giveaway so um so on the um. Oh, i brought something up in my recent video that i kind of wanted to address, and i kind of want to get your guys's feedback on this, too, is that you know i'm noticing that there's a lot of comments coming in that, for some reason, the actual Notifications from youtube aren't coming through, so keep in mind guys i'm trying to explore some better options to notify you guys when i upload first off.
My uploading is super consistent for almost a year now i upload thursday afternoon, okay about 12 p.m. Pacific time and then i also upload a new video sunday morning about 5 00 a.m. Pacific time i do live streams monday evenings at 5 p.m, pacific time and it's consistent every single week, okay, every once in a while. I throw a bonus video in there.

So if you're not getting the notifications - and you can just remember consistently thursday sunday monday, okay next - is i also post regularly. Whenever i upload on youtube, i post onto facebook, okay, so make sure you follow my facebook profile, hvacr videos, um. I have a profile and i have a page okay. The page is probably the best one to follow because my profile, i have the max amount of friends, so i can't really add any more friends, but you can just follow my page.

I also post on discord. I have a discord server. Let me see if i can, post the link to the discord server. Give me a few minutes.

You know what i can't do it right now, because it's too distracting, but if someone wants the link to the discord server that can't find it it's in the show notes of this video. If you can't find it send me an email to hvacrvideos.com or hvacreviews gmail.com and i'll give you the discord link too, but we post regularly in discord now i'm trying to come up with a better method. If anyone has any interesting ideas on how i cannotify people um, let me know: okay, please guys if you haven't already subscribe to the channel okay. I know it's really easy just to leave the the subscribe button unchecked, but it really does help out the channel.

I know that some of you guys are watching these videos like on a different browser and you are subscribed. I get that. I understand that point, but i still, though, like sixty percent of the people that watch my videos are not subscribed to my channel. So there's a pretty big margin there, um and i'll give.

You know ten percent of that to people watching on different browsers, but there's still quite a few people. So please, please hit the subscribe button. Turn the notification bell on. Okay, youtube doesn't send the emails anymore.

I get that, but i'm just talking the general notifications. People aren't getting either. So let me see what we got going on in here. Okay, um ring that bell for sure uh, sweet, okay, something i want to point out.

I get this question so much guys and i will address it right now. This wedding ring that i wear on my finger is a silicone wedding ring okay, so many people tell me that i shouldn't be wearing a wedding ring. My finger's gon na get smashed. I'm gon na get electrocuted whatever it's a silicone wedding ring.
For that reason, in the beginning of my career i used to wear my actual. You know real wedding ring. I don't even think my real wedding wing can fit my finger anymore by the way um, but i used to wear my real wedding ring and uh. It would get so scratched up that i had it refinished so many times that it's not even smooth metal anymore.

Okay, i stopped wearing my wedding ring and i got one of these silicone rings and i wear it all the time so that question i kid you not comes up like all the time. Okay, so i find myself having to address it a lot. It is a silicone, it is a quailo ring, uh qalo. You can look those up, there's all kinds of silicone rings.

If you guys are interested so um. Look at phone. Lots of people are emailing me um uh, so people have more than less than cases yeah. They definitely no people are doing fine, nobody ha yeah, everybody is getting um and i i can see the amount of tickets.

People are getting they're they're doing good, don't worry, guys. Uh people aren't getting entries, they shouldn't be getting uh. We are good to go so um. Let me see what's going on in here.

We will be fine, i'm monitoring it right now, so i can also change it. If someone messes something up so we're good to go. Um i'm looking at the phone. It's all good, guys, we're cool uh.

Why is there something from pink floyd in my refrigeration, playlist uh? That's a good question. Uh! Sometimes i will add music on my youtube thing and pink floyd might pop up in there. I might have accidentally added a pink floyd song to my refrigeration playlist. That sounds like something i would do so sometimes i'll, add music to my playlist and i accidentally click it or something that would be my bad but yeah.

It's all good, all right, um! Let me see what else we got going on in here: um yeah. I see everybody's emails and texts and stuff you're good. So we are good on that uh yeah. Nobody is again still nobody's getting entries.

They shouldn't get we're good to go um all right. Let me see what else we got going on in here, hello to everybody um best way to tell if a bearing is going bad well, it really depends. I mean first off, i need to know what kind of bearing you're talking about okay, um and uh. You know, sometimes you can hear it if you want to follow the manufacturer's instructions on said bearing you want to make sure that you're lubricating it the right amount of times and not over lubricating it when it comes to grease and different things like that, some bearings Are not greasable, okay, so um in certain situations.

What i would do is typically just listen to the bearing you can also, if you did like data logging or i'm sorry, um trending data. If you took thermal imaging pictures and different things like that on a regular basis, you can actually see when the actual, bearing is overheating and over time you can watch a trend of the bearing warming up, but that's not really something. Most people are going to do. Very often so um, let me see what else we got in here.
What do i think of uh ref, plus walk-in equipment? I've never heard of it john deere fan, so i couldn't tell you anything so um. Let me see what we got going on in here. Blower ball bearing yeah blower ball bearings. Typically, it just depends, i mean, is it greasable or not, um, just listen to the sound check, the heat of it um, so something i wanted to address really quick and is the new shirt.

Okay, there was some pushback on the new t-shirt that i designed, and i want to make this clear right now. Okay, so there was some pushback, because i put a flag on the sleeve actually right here. Okay, first off people were saying that the flag is going in the wrong direction. No, it is not okay, because the flag is flowing in the wind, like i'm, you know marching or whatever, so the flag is going in the right direction.

I purposely have it on the right sleeve. Okay, the next thing that i got was someone a couple. Different people actually mentioned to me that it was disrespectful that i put a flag on my t-shirt. Okay, i realize that there's some archaic flag rules that say that people aren't supposed to wear flags on t-shirts, but not in my eyes.

Okay, so uh. My personal belief is i'm gon na put a flag on my shirt. If i want to put a flag on my shirt, um, i'm not using it in a horrible way or anything like that. Okay - and i do not agree that only law enforcement and military should be able to wear a flag on a t-shirt.

Okay, that's my personal opinion. I have multiple different shirts on my website, one without a flag. So if you have an issue with the flag, shirt feel free to buy the other one or don't buy anything at all. It's all good okay, but i am not taking the flag off of my shirt.

I'm gon na keep it on, and that's just all, i'm gon na leave that at okay, we're gon na leave that be um. Let me see uh customer so a lot of times. I get questions about this too, because i mentioned it in my videos that my customers, some of my customers, purchase their own equipment and i get a lot of people asking me like hey. How do you you know? How is it that i let my customers buy their own equipment? So if you work in restaurant refrigeration and you do chain, restaurant work, okay, chain, restaurants, these big giant companies that are all across the country, okay, um.

You have to accept the fact that there's certain things that those restaurant chains are gon na purchase on their own um yeah lily rose. I see the thing it's i i see what you're saying so um. Let me see the chat right now: everybody's doing fine, um i'll watch it for a few more minutes, and i have another method. If, if it works out that people are are abusing the thing, then you know it'll be fine.
I got another way to do it too, so um, i lost my train of thought here. Real quick, this whole giveaway thing is just driving me bonkers right now, because it's not making sense, and it's totally throwing me off guard um with the uh. What was i talking about? Oh customer supplied equipment, so when you're doing chain restaurant work, that's just something you have to kind of learn to live with: okay, uh, the restaurant chains. If you want to do their work, they're gon na um purchase their own equipment.

I don't let them purchase their own parts, we only do equipment for them, so they have national accounts with a lot of the major manufacturers and they keep me busy during the winter time. So i'm not too worried about that and we do have a proper labor rate and we do get to sell them a few things so um, that's just my personal decision that, with the way that we run our business now um, you know we typically don't do Small customers that we don't let them purchase their stuff, but when we have these companies that are huge and they provide us with a lot of work, sometimes you know if you want to do their work, you have to accept the fact that they're going to purchase Their own equipment and that's just the way that it rolls. Okay, i realize there's a lot of people out there. That say: oh my god, i would never do that, but you know it is what it is so um.

So the question. Actually that's a good question. I see it coming in right now: um yeah. Definitely so here's what we're gon na do guys.

I i see that the the whole giveaway thing is confusing people so check this out. So what we're gon na do? Um we're gon na. Do the giveaway a different way? I have an easier way to do it right now. Okay, so hang on just one.

Second, let me pull something up and uh. This way people will feel more comfortable with it. Okay, so here's what we're gon na do, um what i'm gon na do. I have another method: i'll use the nightbot to run the giveaway.

This is much easier and we'll just go ahead and do it right now that way, i'm not distracted anymore. Okay! So here's the deal what i'm gon na do is. I am going to um give away i'll announce it again right now. Okay, for everybody! That's in the chat! I am going to give away a shirt one of my shirts.

Okay. It can be, whichever shirt that i sell. It can be the big picture shirt. This is the big picture, shirt right now: okay, we have a white one.

This one says big picture diagnosis. We have this in white, black and gray, or you can do the flag shirt which i'm wearing right now you got a flag on the sleeve and it says hvacr videos on the back. Okay. What i'm going to do is i'm going to use the nightbot moderator to do a giveaway right now, okay, so people that are channel supporters, they already have better odds and subscribe to the channel.
They already have better odds at winning. Okay, they get one more entry than everybody else: okay, um, that's just how it works. And again this is only open to people that, where it's legal for me to send you the shirt and do a giveaway. If i find out i'll send this anywhere in the world as long as it's legal okay, so what we're gon na do right now, um is.

I want you guys to go ahead and blow up the chat just start chatting and i'll pick a random person right now so just blow up the chat i'll give it a couple minutes just start going crazy chat, whatever okay type, anything you want and i'll do. The giveaway here in just a minute so go ahead and start blowing up the chat and i'll get to all the questions and stuff. Okay start knocking it out, hit it come on. Get that chat going start, knocking it out, just chat.

Anything everybody! That's in here. Just start chatting right now we got 314 viewers right now come on. I want to see this thing start rolling um. Here it comes.

Let's get it going it's starting to grow. I can see 23 eligible users 30.. It's catching up. 40 47 people chatting right now.

48., it's catching up, keep it going, keep it going! It's going now, 72 73. Keep it going um! I'm not gon na run it very long. Once you chat, you know, once you get your name in there, you're good to go, keep it going, keep it going! Lots of people in there right now um keep it going. Uh like i said, i'll ship these anywhere in the world uh right now.

I only ship from my website to canada, uh but i'll ship, these anywhere in the world, so keep it going right. Now i'm going to pick a name here in just a second keep it going i'll give it another minute. Thank you, so very much for that super chat. That is awesome.

I'm going to knock this out right now. This this whole, these giveaways, distract me and just drive me nuts. So this is just easier. This way, we'll just get it over with.

I wanted it to last longer, but it is all good okay. So i'm gon na pick a winner right now. Moderators are also uh eligible to enter so keep it going. Um keep chatting keep chatting.

I see a lot of people in here right now: cool cool cool, all right, i'm gon na pick the winner right now your name's gon na pop up in the chat here. It goes random user right now, boom advanced basher, advanced basher. You are the winner uh. What you need to do everybody stop chatting now we already have a winner come on, come on slow down the chat, advanced basher.

You are the winner, okay, um. What i need you to do is send me an email to hvacrvideos gmail.com against or again, then the winner is advanced. Basher b-a-s-h-e-r send me an email to hvacr videos gmail.com you can choose which shirt you want in the email. Tell me if you want the big picture, shirt or the flag shirt, what size you want and give me your address and we'll correspond back and forth so um.
I tell you what uh everybody that's in there right now advanced basher. Send me an email, hvacr videos, gmail.com, and i will go ahead and pick one more person right now. Uh go ahead and uh i'm gon na pick. It right now boom everything hvacr.

You are the second winner, everything hvacr, send me an email to hvacrvideos, gmail.com and i'll. Send you a shirt too? Okay, again only if this is you know, legit, and i can send them to you and all that good stuff, all right, so we're gon na go ahead and get on with everything. Thank you, so very much for that super chat. Coming in now that i can move on congrats to the winners, i'll try to do these things more often in the um in the uh live streams and stuff.

When we can, okay, so make sure you two guys that one send me those emails and we'll get to it: okay, so uh crankcase heaters. I had a couple questions about crankcase heaters: what's the reason for a crankcase heater, why do we need them? Okay, so crank case heaters are especially important on refrigeration systems, but also air conditioning systems at that too, okay, uh crankcase heater. What it's going to do is it's going to keep the uh the oil in the compressor, nice and warm the crankcase warm okay, and it's going to prevent refrigerant from liquid refrigerant from migrating into that compressor in the off cycle. Now, liquid line solenoid valve also helps to prevent that.

Okay, if you have liquid migration, okay, the liquid refrigerant migrates to the compressor - and it just sits in there when it starts up, you can get some oil issues and you can actually push the oil out of the compressor. Okay, it kind of washes the oil out or a flooded start washes the oil out of the compressor, and then you have issues with getting that oil back into the compressor. Okay, so crankcase heater helps to keep the compressor crankcase warm so that way that refrigerant doesn't migrate into the compressor in the off cycle. So that's the whole purpose of a crank case heater now in my situation in my recent video, the crankcase heater um was energized.

24, 7.. Now in a perfect world, what you will do is you'll have an auxiliary contact on the compressor contactor that will only allow the crankcase heater to run when the compressor contactor is not running. Okay, because there's really no need for the crankcase heater to be running when the compressor is operating, it's really only there for in the off cycle; okay, but the cheaper manufacturers. They typically just run the crank case, heater 24 7..

So you have two options: okay, there's! No point in running the crankcase heater: only when the compressor is running you typically either want to run it when the compressor is off or 24 7. Okay. So that way, it warms up the body to help prevent some flooded starts refrigerant migration. All that fancy stuff um i had mentioned earlier before the liquid line solenoid valve - will also help that, because the liquid line solenoid valve will pump the refrigerant down, it stops the flow of refrigerant.
Then the compressor will shut off on low pressure and then typically, the liquid line. Solenoid valve is controlled via the defrost clock or the temperature controller, and it will open whenever there's a call for cooling or when it's not in defrost, okay um. Hopefully that answers that question for you uh, let's see what else we got uh something i want to address too. We get this all the time and i'll pay attention to the chat in a minute.

Thank you, so very much holy moly jose. Thank you. So much for that super chat man. What is that meter like behind my printer uh behind my printer, is actually a dial-a-charge okay.

This is before i i'd, never use this by the way. Okay, this is an uh, an older tool. I don't even think my dad used one of these. This was before his time too, but this was an older tool for critical refrigerant charge when we didn't have very accurate scales.

Okay, before digital was super efficient and super available and cheap okay, what you would do is you would fill this up with the refrigerant okay, and you can actually see the level in this little glass right here and then you would know exactly how much down to The ounce down to the gram, however, the the scale was on this guy. Let's see on this one uh, this one is in ounces: okay, but the measurements you could. You know you could have them in different increments on these measurements. Okay - and this was for charging refrigeration systems that were critically charged all right again.

I've never used this. This was one of my service technicians brought this to me because he found it at a garage sale so and forgive my office. It's overloaded with boxes of merch, crazy right now, uh was there a locked up motor that the blade would not move even when you spin it. Yes, i've had several locked up motors that are completely locked up inside.

There was some kind of mechanical damage in the motor and the blade wouldn't even spin. So what you would do is loosen the. If you could, you would lube up the shaft, loosen the blade and then try to spin the blade off and then chuck the motor. So if you guys have questions, definitely type them in super chat, i mean in caps lock, so that way we can get them uh was there okay.

I already answered that question. Let me see what else we got in here. What's the worst call i've ever gotten? Um, okay, uh no offense, but i actually turned this one down and i wouldn't say the worst call, but this was a service call that i turned down simply because of the hassle. Okay, no offense to anybody that believes in this or anything like that.

Okay, but i got a call one time: uh at the local scientology um, you know compound or whatever there's one of these out in san jacinto way out in the sticks out in my area and uh through a supply house, they contacted me they so whatever they Contacted me, but the list of requirements for me to go and work at that place. I was going to have someone standing behind me the entire time watching me. No video cameras, no phones, no anything like that in the place and i'd heard from other people that have worked there before that it was a nightmare. So i just turned that one down, so that was an interesting service call that i turned down.
I think they even wanted, like some equipment replaced or something like that, and i just didn't want to you - know: yeah didn't even want to get into that one. So that was an interesting one um, but no judgment on. If any of you guys are scientologists or anything like that, it's not about that. It was just the hassle of what i had to go through to actually work there um, i also did a similar uh quote one time at a prison, a women's prison of all things, chino women's prison.

I actually had to go give a quote, and i don't know if i ever told this story on a live stream, but it was really interesting. I've told it other places before, but i got a service called the chino women's prison and they said they wanted a quote on replacing a walk-in freezer door. So i went out there. I had to go through background checks and all kinds of things like that.

Just to get to be able to go on site, and i'm going to tell you guys right now, if anybody's watching that has ever worked there, i was completely blown away with the lack of security. Okay, it blew my mind, so i had to pass background checks and all kinds of things like that to be able to even you know, go onto the prison property right. So i show up the day of everything scheduled. I passed all the checks um i show up the day of, and i walk up to a reception desk and uh.

I'm asked to empty out my pockets onto the reception desk and walk through a metal detector. I am not kidding with you guys. Okay, there was no cameras. Looking at what i was doing.

Okay, i could see the room, it was a very old building and there was no cameras. Looking at what i was doing, i emptied my pockets onto the desk. I walked through the metal detector. I came back and i collected everything that i put on the counter.

Nobody could see what i took out of my pockets, i'm telling you guys, like i remember thinking like oh my gosh, nobody could see the crap i took out of my pockets now i didn't take anything bad in there, but still, but then i noticed too that, While i was there people there was volunteers and prison guards. No as volunteers, there was volunteers that were walking in and they were bypassing the metal detector. There was like a volunteer organization. They were going right past it, okay, so fast forward through that.

I put everything back in my pocket. My escort comes and gets me walks me into the walk-in freezer. I'm you know measuring up what i need to measure and i'm quizzing the guy, because i've never worked at a prison before right. So i'm asking i'm like hey: how does this work? Because, in order to do this, work, i'm going to need my van on the property and they were telling me that they had a fenced in area that i could park? My van and i was like okay and he was like, but we have to inventory your entire van before you come in here and i was like at the time i had a service truck and i was like what do you mean inventory and he's like? We got to go through everything and you got to give us an itemized list and i go dude, there's so many razor blades and torches and all kinds of crap.
That's in my van that i have no idea how much i have in there. You know so right off the bat i was already kind of thinking. I didn't even want anything to do with this right. So um again, i'm i'm in the walk-in freezer, i'm measuring up this door and the the guard or my escort it wasn't a guard.

It was an escort, he says, hey. I got ta step out for a minute and do something he was gon na step out. I was in a walk-in freezer and you had to walk into the walk-in cooler so he's like i'm gon na step out for a minute. Uh just stay in here and i was like okay, so i'm measuring up the door and then an inmate walks in with me right, so i'm standing in the walk-in cooler with an inmate right and i'm sitting here thinking.

This is just so blown away because i could have brought anything into this place, i'm in here with an inmate by myself. It just blew my mind so then after i measured everything i got to thinking about this more and more and then i quiz the the escort guys some more and i was asking like dude this whole me. You know inventory my entire truck like this. This isn't going to jive how's this gon na work, you know, and then i just told him i said dude.

I don't want this job this. This sounds more like a headache to me than anything, and he was like. Please please. Please he's like just give me a quote: all that they needed was a quote right.

They had to get so many quotes. So i quoted that thing so high that i would never get it that one was another interesting one that i turned down, because it just seemed like such a headache. So all right, um, let me see what else uh. Why do freezer units need a receiver? Well, if your system has an expansion valve okay, you need a receiver on your system and or a condenser.

That is oversized. So that way you can store the extra refrigerant, that's not being used when the expansion valve is throttling down. Okay, so any system that has an expansion valve either needs to have an oversized receiver. I'm sorry it either needs to have an oversized, condenser and or a receiver added to it.

Okay, so that's why you'll see like residential air conditioning systems can have an expansion valve, but they don't have a receiver. That's because the condenser has enough extra space in it that it can store refrigerant for when the expansion valve isn't sending it into the evaporator. Let me see what else. Maybe they were testing me to see if i was gon na, do something yeah.
I don't know man that that one blew my mind, though um yeah thoughts on customers supplying their own parts jason. So i kind of mentioned it a little bit earlier, yeah the metal - i don't know if the metal detector was working. I mean it beeped at me or whatever right. I didn't have anything bad on me.

Um thoughts about customers supplying their own parts, so i kind of talked about it a little bit earlier uh. I do work for my customers for some of my big big chains and they supply their own equipment. But i don't do i don't let them supply their own parts. Okay parts are something if we're going to fix something, i'm going to supply the part and mark it up, i'm not letting them supply their own parts.

Now, that's just my personal preference. I know that some particular restaurants, they supply all their own parts and that's just how it works. Uh. You need to make sure that you're pricing yourself right, if you're going to do that you've got to price your labor high enough as if you're marking, equipment or parts up, because you know we can't like my company, we can't survive solely on our labor rate.

We have a markup on our parts and we have a labor rate and we need a little bit of both to to be above water basically and to be profitable. So if i was just selling my labor to my customers, i would have to jack up my rate, probably 20 an hour to be able to stay profitable, um, that's just how it works ever seen. A compressor 208 volt, r22 walk-in cooler, pull low amps like 2 amps and still work fine boxes pulling proper temp. That's a good question i mean there's there's so many variables with that is the compressor massively oversized is the condensed unit massively oversized.

I mean i don't know that i've ever seen that, but i need to know more details. You can feel free to send me an email. If you want do, i only do commercial work yeah right now. I only do uh refrigeration and air conditioning for commercial.

I don't do any residential air conditioning so um. Let me see what else we got going on in here. Um. Let me see uh can a compressor running without refrigerant cause compressor damage yeah, definitely over time.

Running without refrigerant can definitely cause some issues, especially if it pulls air into the system. Um. You can have some issues. What is an accumulator? An accumulator is a device similar to a receiver, but what it actually does is prevents liquid refrigerant from making its way back to the compressor.

So you will typically install it on the suction line, going back to the compressor and it's there to prevent liquid refrigerant from making its way to the actual compressor and damaging the compressor. Whereas a receiver looks similar to an accumulator is simply just a storage device for refrigerant that is not being used when the system has a low load um. Let me see what else we got in here. What is the best stand-up freezer ray-ray uh, the 1980s charleston units that said made in california.
They were the best uh reach-in freezers you money could buy right now. Back then, charleston still makes a decent reach in freezer, but even they have had to cheapen up their units to kind of stay competitive with everybody else. So as far as manufacturers, the best freezer out there right now, i probably would still have to say it charleston. One of the the fancier models, but even like i said, even those they've gotten really cheap they've, started to dumb them down.

They used to be higher quality, much higher quality um, so uh, i'd have to say, like a trollson. A true or a dell field are pretty competitive as far as the quality they all have their cheapness to them. Um a custom freezer would be best uh, there's a there's, a refrigerator manufacturer called utility. I haven't seen anything new from them in a while, but they used to make really high quality stuff.

It was rather expensive, but it was real, stainless steel. They were a small manufacturer, i don't know if they still manufacture new equipment, but utility was the name of it. They did some great stuff too um. Let me see, do i have customers that know about this channel? Do they watch it any negative feedback? Andy verkande for virginity.

Yes, a lot of my customers do know that i make youtube videos uh. I try not to make it obvious, while i'm standing in a restaurant or something like that, and of course, if i find myself spending extra time on a service call, because i'm filming a video, i always discount the bill. Okay, but yes, some of my biggest customers. They do know that i make videos and i've gotten good feedback from them, but i will tell you that i wouldn't be surprised if one day they have to tell me to stop okay and here's.

Why i'm very thorough? I do a very good job of protecting. My customers, identity, okay, i do not show restaurant location names or anything like that. I try as hard as i can to film very discreetly to protect the restaurant names, but eventually - and and most of my restaurants do know that i actually film okay, some of the big ones they do know, but they have not. Given me official approval.

Okay, they have told me: hey that's, really cool what you do. We appreciate it. They could never give me official approval, because they're corporations, lawyers and all that fancy stuff. Okay.

So one day when someone out there picks up a video and starts showing customer location names and different things like that, yeah, i'm sure that they would eventually have to tell me to stop filming, even though they agree with what i'm doing, and they appreciate what i'm Doing there's gon na come a point and i've known this since the beginning. There's gon na come a point when i'm gon na have to stop okay because again lawyers, you know they just rip everything apart and it's all about liability honestly. What most of the general public thinks is gross really isn't that gross people see things in my videos and they're like oh, my gosh i'll, never eat ice again, guys every ice machine out. There looks like that: okay, there's, not one ice machine.
That's absolutely perfect! If you think you have a perfect ice machine, i guarantee i could tear it apart. I guarantee i could find something that would gross everybody out. Okay, it's just naturally out there, okay, there's crap in ice machines. It is what it is.

So i do what i can to protect my customers um. I work on gas rtus right. Do i perform combustion analysis? Kyle h? No! I have never performed a combustion analysis in my life. I've thought about buying combustion analyzers.

But, to be honest with you last year, last winter i got like three. No heat calls: okay, i'm in southern california. It gets cold, but even right now with covid, i can't justify the price of a combustion analyzer with calibrating it, whatever two three years or whatever it is. I can't justify the price because i wouldn't make it back up.

So no, i do not do combustion analysis. Um, we don't use heating enough to be able to justify buying one of those. What's the worst thing that can happen, having a blower fan run 24. 7, not a whole lot.

I mean on the plus side, by having the blower fan, run 24 7. You're saving yourself on the in rush current, because the inrush current of turning that blower on is where your electric bill spikes and then it drops down once you get to running loads, okay, um! Now. As far as, of course, you, you probably want to give it some time to cool down every once in a while. Now, when you get into blower fans, you have to start thinking about something else.

Okay, i'm thinking about a residential air air. You know residential system is what i'm thinking of okay, if you run a blower fan 24 7 in a humid environment. What you could actually do is have humidity issues. Okay, here in southern california, we don't have humidity, it's probably like 20 humidity.

Today, okay, i think this weekend it was like 11. We don't have humidity so running. Our blower fan doesn't cause any issues at all, but if you're running your air conditioner and then after the air conditioner cycles off and the blower fan continues to run, what you'll start to do is you'll pick up those those water molecules or particles or whatever the Moisture off the coil and you'll send it out to the space in forms of humidity, okay, and that causes issues causes high humidity and different things like that. So, of course, you want to give a motor time to cool down after so much time, but the plus side to running the indoor blower motor is you're saving on that.
In rush current, you only turned it on once: okay um but yeah. Hopefully i answered that one for you um. Let me see what else uh have i ever experienced a blown filter dryer no, luckily cross my fingers. I have never experienced a filter dryer that came apart in the system and blew the desiccant beads everywhere.

Anything like that. I've heard horror stories and seen lots of pictures but cross my fingers. I have never come across it. Um ever seen a compressor operational, normal amp draw, but not pumping any refrigerant yeah i have scroll, compressors will disengage, but it's not normal.

Amp draw i've, seen a compressor running i've seen reciprocating compressors. Do this too, where the motor the valves break, but the motor's still spinning so you'll actually get a current measurement off the compressor and it sounds like it's running, but there's no pumping going on yeah. It's just a mechanical failure in the compressor now on a scroll compressor, they can disengage the scroll set. I i couldn't exactly tell you how it happens, but i've seen that happen before too, where the motor will continue to run you'll measure current draw, but the compressor is just not pumping and you'll have to reset the system cool it down, start it up, and then It'll start back up.

Sometimes let me see what else we got in here ever seen a compressor. I already answered that question. Have i got news about systems using r32? I read that stuff, but i haven't heard anything new about it. What's the advantages and disadvantages of normal evaporator coils and smart evaporated, coils heat craft qrc and that type of smart stuff? No no worries, it's all good um, so the disadvantage of a normal evaporator coil that for a walk-in cooler that does not have a smart electronic expansion valve and smart defrost and different things like that is with the smart, coils.

Okay, you have more energy efficiency and you have better operation and tighter control of evaporator superheat. So, let's put it at this on a walk-in cooler. The rule of thumb is that your superheat should be between eight to twelve degrees, okay, eight to twelve degrees, typically airing on the side of ten to twelve okay. It can change, depending on humidity requirements and different things like that, but for, for all intents and purposes, let's say 10 to 12 degrees.

Okay, now, if you ever watch a conventional expansion valve system operate, what you'll notice is uh in my recent video, you can actually see it. I think i mentioned it, but when the system turns on what you're going to notice is the superheat is going to drop? Okay, it's going to go really low like down to zero degrees, and then it's going to slowly start to build back up. Okay, that's because it's a mechanical valve and it's operating off of the sensing bulb sensing. The suction line, temperature and the valve has really heavy swings, open, closed, open closed and it takes a while to kind of find its happy medium.
That's why they say when you start up a walk-in cooler, you want to give it some time in between adjustments on the expansion valve.

I can see were you are going with the OEM parts and i agree in most cases. Parts that i have selected to keep in my van may not be OEM all the time but they are better quality than most of the stuff that i see today.

It takes time but after some years you know what will last what will not.
