Sometimes you try really hard and you get kicked on your ass, leak detectors can really let you down sometimes.

That last night made me laugh
Looks like this is the DejaVu you were feeling recently. Service area Nepean??
Chris, don't you worry about catching the virus with touching cook drawers? Or giving the virus to someone by touching the food drawers? Service area Kanata??
I'm glad you gave an explanation because I was going to ask you why have a reservoir for so much extra refrigerant. I got it now. Thanks.
Do u use fan cycling where your at we run a head pressure control valve and fan cycling control in Michigan
a trained eye finds leaks that way leak dector 2nd cant trust them a good helper but not to be trusted
There's a leak test for all hydrocarbon based Refrigerants like r290 light a match and if there's a leak there's gunna be a loud noise.
Heat producing device = map gas!
I've got some direct source geothermal units I work on with receivers and head pressure control devices. I also work on couple of Lieberts with them. Are you in Orleans ?
I’ve owned 3 DTek Selects over the course of a 14 year career in HVAC, but only recently learned to purchase a spare battery to keep charged and on hand. NOTHING worse than having a battery die in the middle of a leak check. Actually, Infinicon’s newest model, the Stratus, has a lithium ion battery with a battery indicator. The downside? Bastard costs $1k.
everyone here is bragging about the batterie and stuff what concernes me the most that those food drawers are disgusting. the fans the panel backside all slimy and grimy. I problaly won't go in a restaurant the nexts months.
That’s a beautifully organised AC Unit, very impressed by the cable management compared with some of the other units on here!!
moobies showing at end LOL Are you in Barrhaven ?
Lol not cooking pasta to order lol
THs instrument should stay between specs until bat shows low. If not, it should be noted in the manual. If not battery indicator is provided, it should operate between spec until goes off. Nothing worse than an intrument you cant rely on. They should alos provide a cal function or something to double check that is doing right. Probably need to "smell" gas, probably not. I dont know how this thing work. but it is basic to any intrument.
Nasty restaurant. Pasta is not covered. Filthy inside I do a lot of those cooler at Cheesecake Factory. I will never eat there nor I recomended.
I'm gonna convert my leak detector to run on 2 18650 cells for this exact reason. I bought a defective pack of D cell batteries that had me chasing my tail for a solid day before I figured it out.
Restaurants like paying to have their equipment cleaned by a professional at times. Chasing refer leaks always takes most of the service call time. Good explanation on the head pressure control and the winter charge. Glad to see you got a better detector imaging that on a very late call on a roof, ng. Interested in 2 hats and 2 zippered hoodies. 1 fold , 1 unfolded. Excellent job and video Chris. Thank you again. Stay safe bud. ITIT.
Looks like the same unit as past time
Leak Detectors suck anyways I bought expensive ones I but cheap ones they all seem to suck the same they don't pick up 410A for s*** and it seems like the only leaks they pick up at all are ones you can damn near here anyways
I got cursed watching this video. An hour after watching it my Dtek battery went dead in the middle of a leak search.
The new Dtek Stratus has battery indicator (percentage). Better detection and some other cool features such as "cloud hunting", PPM measurement. Really nice equipment to work with!! Service area Barrhaven??
Alright already sorry for causing a argument i didn't mean for this to get out of hand i only wanted to know so I asked? Won't bother in future
LOL end of video…..
With natural gas you have to find the leak. No leak allowed. Thanks for sharing love your work from uk Are you in Ottawa ?
Hey bro ur videos always have very good valuable info, thank thank you for the hard work.
Aside from batteries failing in your leak detector. (Sad) what i would definately be thankful for is the organization ans labelling that has been planned inside the condensing rack. As soon as you had the panels opened i noticed labels on defrost clocks, contactors, and circuit boards. I would have been happy to have seen something like that in my time.
As far as battery usage for leak detector.
This can be achieved and possibly some modding if you have a spare one and dont want to risk damage using the only one you got.
Add a couple wires, soldier to battery bank. Drill 2 holes and put female connectors. Then you can always take your volt meter and check battery voltage before powering on your leak detector.
Sorry to ask and be cheeky and rude why didn't you have a spare detecter with you in the van just in case you run of of battery or you accidentally drop it and break it? Are you only allowed one detecter or is it the price of them? Just to say nice looking tool you have there my wife said lol? Take it easy dude loving your videos Are you in Nepean ?
Great video Chris? Was nice to see you coming back and double checking and covering your back? Not a lot of other people would do that? Keep safe bro
Head pressure control valve is a bit of an unknown to me as i have not come across it at work,, i only know of it from College ….
Electronic leak detectors are okay ,, i have used them but for pin pointing even the smallest leak , nothing beats soapy water and a sponge ,,.. I detected minute leaks which took upto 5 minutes to show…
Thank you for another interesting video.
I had to re-watch the end to make sure I heard what I thought I heard, LOL!
H10 finds everything
Can’t beat Big Blu
Have you ever used a halide torch? A very old tech at my school was telling us about those.
Milwaukee needs to come out with a m12 leak detector
You can't really beat the D Tek mate. It's cheap. You can change the batteries. It's not so sensitive it pick up a fart in a room. Its spot on in my opinion.
Nice video Mr Chris, I'm just wondering, on that receiver, is the fusible plug sticking out almost half way? Cause I find they leak if that far out. Just a thought.
You touched the inside of a food container with your bare hands. And your silence on white supremacy is complicity. And I know you and your youtube audience care about both issues about the same, which is to say not at all.
pasta in the refrigerator huh. would explain a lot with how it is at most places.
If in January the receiver tank was replaced and refrigerant level was verified and then in September its low on refrigerant and its gotta be topped up again that tells me there's a leak.
I use Ruggabutts on Copper wires for telephone network . You can go to the exchange where there are thousands of break down points and lose battery for sound ( listen for dial tone and prove number ) and you start looking for apparent faults . Then go hang on check another line and eventually you click , you need another 9 volt battery . Exchanges are never close to shops where you can buy new ones cause your online order never arrived quick enough
For r-22 the halide torch is the best leak detector to bad it doesn't work with the newer refrigerants because it easily pinpoints small and large leaks just by the colors! For modern refrigerants the feild piece is supposed to be the best! Electronic detectors tend to not be accurate as the batteries get weak so replaceing them often is a good practice and having spares with you is a must! I like to use fresh batteries in my leak detector and then replace them when my inspection light batteries go bad and put the old batteries from the leak detector in my inspection light so I keep fresh batteries in my leak detector! Thanks for another awesome video! Service area Ottawa??
When I first started in refrigeration, I had a prep table in Dearborn that almost drove me away from refrigeration work.
My old boss told me that I have to find a balance between how long I look for a leak and how much the customer is willing to pay for service.
I understand why he said that, no one wants to pay for 8 hours of labor only to be told, "sorry I couldn't find a leak", but the technician side of my brain would not accept not finding a leak. I still stubbornly hunt leaks.
I went back multiple times, on my own time, just to prove to my self there was a leak, but I found nothing. The customer knew I was hell bent to find the leak, and he understood. Finally I gave up.
Three years later, that prep table needed a few more once of refrigerant. This time I pumped it up to 200lbs of nitrogen. I went and had lunch and the boss joined me. So my normal 20 minute lunch was an hour and a half.
The unit had held the 200lbs pressure the whole time. We dumped the nitrogen and recharged the system. I never found the leak before they had a fire and the restaurant was destroyed.
It still bugs me, and that was over 15 years ago. I would much rather replace a 5 hp compressor than hunt small leaks.
1. Low side piping leak. 2. One evaporator looked shady. 3. Pressure control. If you have to check the piping in the future, pressure with Nitrogen, use ultrasonic. It can find the most tiny leaks. Larger leaks, I have had good luck with dye.
Crank up the pressure with nitrogen and ultrasonic when electronics fail.
Shitty feeling. I gave up my rechargeable for one that takes store bought batteries for that exact reason.
I have the same leak detector, battery lasted less than a year, then failed. Had to drop it off at Batteries Plus and took a few days to get replaced. Cheaper than buying from the factory.
I always use both of my TIFzx2 at the same time….
Electronic leak detectors are just NOT viable but still are a must… I tried many different brands and models and from 1 to another of the same model being brand new react completely differently. I hate it.
I got 1 unit extremely sensitive for certain refrigerant and the other one keep ringing for nothing BUT is all-round….
Btw.
I'd love to use the receiver winter charge method… But here ,in Canada , outdoor single units have insulated / heated receiver so this is a can't do situation…
What I try to do is at this time of the year ( when it is around 32~f) is see if the head master valves are already bypassing even a little by looking at the cond. Outlet temp. and liquide line temp. Differential.
Love your videos, keep it up
Adding lubricant oil with UV dye during charging. Then come back to check it with UV light when the unit has problem again. This may be an easy schedule when you are busy
