The HVAC industry for years has simply been a customer needing work done and a contractor filling that need and making the repair or replacing their HVAC system. However, as time has gone on, more companies and people have begun leeching onto the industry by inserting themselves in between that relationship that would have already been there. The latest "leech" we have discovered is real estate websites, that future homeowners go on to look for their new home, are now asking if you need a professional. And if you do, they have a list you can choose from!

They always start with the same old line…We are looking for some HVAC guys in your area. LOL They always represent themselves like they are Blackstone investments. When in reality they are nobody, they sit behind a computer with no knowledge of our industry trying to be a parasite. When I was younger, maybe thirty years ago I signed up for that Angies list. You give them your credit card and anytime someone clicks on an add and puts in their number they would charge my credit card 30 bucks and give you an address or a phone number. More than half the people would say they were just browsing with no real interest. Then you find out you can't just drop them from your credit card for the auto payments, you have to file a grievance or some bull. I just called back and said my card was stolen and that stops all transactions. You are absolutely right though, they are useless leaches trying to cash in on the work of someone else. Are you in Orleans ?

I think a bigger "leach" problem are companies that don't include hours in the labor component of their estimates and end up charging $1,000/hour and more. It happens so often in our area in N. Cali. that I can't get an estimate even close to reasonable from anyone. $1,000/hour for trades is stealing.

So, basically what Home Depot and Lowes has been doing for years!

I signed a contract for a new hvac system in July after my system died. Once I signed the contract in July he tells me the install will be done in October. What the F@#$.

It's very thick in real estate too. Most of these companies do nothing any better than using a yellow pages book and cold calling for work. Whats worse, they charge for a lead regardless if that lead hires you so the incentives are there to pimp any kind of lead, good or bad. These companies who want to help need to make contact with those leads and find out what they want and how soon they want it if they are expecting to be of any service to businesses interested in receiving leads for pay. Most of them are not vetted so the businesses tend to spend a lot of time on the lead only to find out they paid money and the lead is not serious.
