Well I had another technician defrost the coils and he noticed that one evaporator coil was not cooling, lets figure out why.

Hey HVACR, ever get calls to repair vandalism? They came and kept dropping big rocks on the unit. Thankfully no leaks this time, just had to bend the fan guard back and it ran again. How often do you get called to fix vandalism? Service area Orleans??

I don't know what it is, but Rheem has been VERY bad lately for txv failures a year after a proper install. We've never had an issue with ADP (Carrier) coils though. Just a few days ago I condemned a txv at my second job, although that one is a 10-year-old TRANE system.
Out of curiosity… I've been taking power head off and wet rag to cool the rest. Is this a bad idea? If you're building the valve, I tend to just leave it off.
Am I not doing this correctly?
Also did you replace the cartridge? I always have a hard time getting the old one out when I unsweat. I started using the 1/16 part of my sledge just to open it up a hair.

Great video, is there part number for the sporlan build a TXV kit you used in this episode? I do light commercial restaurant refrigeration and HVAC (less than 15 tons) – Looking at Sporlan Bulletin 122, on page 21 of the PDF, which kits do you keep in stock on your van? Does it come with that case you have it in?
I never seen a TXV replaced, and I really enjoyed watching the process.
You didn't wet rag the solenoid valve. Is that OK?

welding does not very well
i like to cut the cap tube on the power head first. tons of pressure on cap tube the valve is bad and since its all getting replaced no harm. Or cut the cap tube and little to no pressure and its easy to say it was only the power head and you just saved yourself time and the customer money, Ive already diagnosed the bad valve so its either going to need the whole valve or just the power head.

@hvacr what numbers do you use on ur oxygen and acetylene regulators.
If there isn't one already, an App where you can look up the system you're working on and then symptoms/error codes where the App then brings up guides and/or videos on how to diagnose or repair the problem would be excellent. Something similar to what DiagnoseDan has done with his app for diagnosing and repairing vehicle electrical problems, I could see you doing it with all your knowledge mixed with someone who can write an App.
Why didn't you seal all the leaks, evacuate the refrigerant, pull a perfect vacuum, and recharge the system when you know there are pieces of carbon and other big contaminants in the system? Is it because on older systems you will never be able to fix all of the leaks anyways? I am going to HVACR school at Ferris State University right now and it's really helpful to see how everything works in the field. I can say with utmost certainty that he is a good tech.

Remember to do preventive maintenance on your computer. My GPU was at thermal throttle 83c and after a repasting its now 61c (gtc 1060 6gig in TWW2) Are you in Kanata ?
If I am swapping out a txv I am using stay brite 8 and will be done in 10 second's.
In all plumbing videos the say "Use flux, everytime!" Care / can someone explain me why it isn't needed in this case?
So it sounds like the TXV is like a carbeurator on a vehicle. that makes it make more sense as to how it works.

Manufacturers thinking about service. Heh heh. Right. I've worked (albeit not HVAC-units) where the thing that always breaks, is in the middle of everything, and you have to basically tear everything down around it, and instead of a 1 hour job, it turns to a 8+ hour job. But who knows what the right-to-repair movement can accomplish? Are you in Barrhaven ?
They fail in Honda vehicles all the time. Same thing they just close down and require 3 hours to change

Found 2 TXVs with failed power heads this month. One rubbed out, the other completely snapped off. Typical symptom on AC is LOW pressure and HIGH pressure at the same time. Stacking refrigerant in the liquid line / condenser but compressor suction is low. If you ever get a low pressure fault on an AC with a TXV, check your high side AND liquid line pressure before pumping nitrogen in checking for leaks!

Good vid. I don't have many txv failures, but when I do, I always seem to have several in a very short period of time. Then no more failures for a year or so. I find failures of some parts seem to happen in clusters.
Problem is. That is a Sporlan valve. It’s the new HX valve made in Mexico. It’s the new hotness. We are starting to build more and more of these at my plant. Lots of customers are starting to switch over to these txv’s
You mentioned you didn't see how the other coil was frosted up. It might be a good idea to have your techs take pictures, if they can to document things. Just a suggestion….

Boss always has me due solenoid and txv in that situation.
I still have trouble with super heat and subcooling for different refrigerants ( mostly low temp) Is there a video you have on superheat and subcooling for low temp. I’ve been reading on it but I still don’t understand for low temps.
