All right now we need to make a piece of duct connect these two. So there's a couple ways you can measure this. I call this raw, so you can go raw to raw, which is ten and a half and then add two inches because remember our Ducks gon na slide in there slide in there. So that's 12 and a half or you can go from Drive year to drive here and measure which is twelve and a half.
So there's two ways to do it. So we know we're gon na have to cut a piece of 12 and a half inch 24 by 8 duct to fit it in here, and this is another reason why the canvas connector will help us two reasons: vibration, isolation and now you have, if you were To have two rigid pieces of duct and not enough room to slide the the new duct in it's going to be difficult, but being that we have a canvas connector, we can move it up and then the new piece can come in all right. We have our 24 by eight piece of duct. This is a store-bought.
We need to make it 12 and a half inches. So I'm gon na make a mark here. A mark here use some sort of straight edge and then I'm gon na go ahead and continue that line down a little bit now, if you come around here, you'll see that this has a premade drive here. So if you measure to here it's 12 inches so again this to 12 and 1/2, this is 12, so you would come down here and measure 12 and then continue the line all right, let's cut it out.
I like to start on the snap-loc side. I don't know why I just do find that offset snips work the best for this now. I know it's very tempting that off of this piece, but we're gon na cut or another 12 and a half off the next section. So one of the things I like to say is that a tape measure is slow, so it's important that we make good measurements, but it's not the end of the world if we're an eighth of an inch or so off.
One way you can do that is just line this up just make sure it's lined up and then, when I cut it I'll cut on this side of it, because this was pre-made, we already have a drive year and it's notched, but we're gon na have to Do that on the new piece, so I like to start at about somewhere between 1/2 inch and 3/4 again somewhere between 1/2 an inch and 3/4 same thing here. So this is a has a snap lock that this will wind up going into. When you do this, you don't want to pull the insert your snips, because this takes quite a bit of force to cut through. So you want to, if you do, that, you'll just cut through and you'll have this huge notch, which will be an air sealing issue.
So I just want to kind of use the front part of my sniffs cut through it we'll do that on both pieces. Now, it's time to bang it together. This is a little tricky because this is already done. So what you want to do is line up this this side, because they're going to be the same distance, so you just kind of get it started, make sure it's lined up a little off.
That's pretty good! We're good with that down now what I'm gon na do is I'm gon na tape this for two reasons, one for air sealing and also to prevent it from moving. Some people run a screw in it. You can do that. Also you're gon na want to make sure that this is as straight as possible, helps you out. Typically, I move right from left, so this is throwing me off a little bit. Alright, get it lined up alright nice and lined up cool, get some tape. Now you want to make sure you leave yourself room for your Drive years, or this tape can kind of get in the way all right now. I just need to fold ears ready to install get rid of this sticker.
Get these s slips on there whenever you doing something like this gravity is your friend I would do the bottom. One first really wish that a was dry and I can see how having a canvas connector is nice because of its flexibility, but you want the canvas connector relatively tight, so in this case this is six inches from edge to edge all right. There. You go ready to air seal and insulate.
Omg wear is your rub down. Listen people if you don't hit that tape with a rub down you are slackin.
If you layed both pieces of duct on top of each other and locked your tape at 12 1\2 you could mark your duct out a lot quicker.
Always drive to drive man. Teach them the right way.
Funny looking hammer? But great video appreciated the content.
good job ,very clean, but I must warn you from using your Offsets aviation snips when cutting those already bends snap locks, or pittsburgh locks, those Offset snips are not designed to cut those locks, I had a whole jaw flying off while cutting one of those, since then i always use a pair of bulldog snips just for cutting corner locks…thanks for sharing, very clean job.
Love your training. Please have more vids about duct strategy and installation for whole house or business. Thank you very much
Put the caulk on last, at least the outer bead. Then you don't have to worry about messing it up or getting it all over things!!
Appreciate 👍
Music sucks 😩
I use Wiss m5’s and Malco shears to cut rectangular duct. Also I use a combination square to draw the line on the short side. In the case of s cleats I open up the ends with a screwdriver so the initial slide in is easy. Are you in Barrhaven ?
Nice too see metal duct get made. In the land of flex its cool to see this
What seamers are those? Are you in Kanata ?
But will Neil teach us how he builds his canvases?
I’m liking the short tutorials. Nice to see how others do things. Thanks Bryan and Neil Service area Orleans??
Great explanation. I cut off only the inside of the snap lock, but that works too. I appreciate the details. You covered all the bases.
Great Video. you did good job. it look beautiful. Thank you for sharing ^_^
Get this guy a hammer.
