All right we're gon na make a leak-free canvas connector, I'm going to show you how alright first, let's go over. What tools we're gon na need some caulk and a caulk gun. I really like Durling 50, because it's very flexible some double-sided tape or some spray adhesive you're gon na need some vice grips v-notch or tongs snips razor knife, something to cut that with marker tape, measure, drill and screws. Let's go cut the piece of canvas the canvas connector comes in a box, it's in a roll and we're gon na be doing 24 by 8 duct.

So what we need to do is measure out 24 inches, 8, inches, 24, inches 8 inches and then add an extra 2 in this case that will come to 66 inches. So just make a mark and just go ahead and cut it. It's got a little bit of bend to it because it's in a roll, so you're gon na, want to try to flatten that out. If you can alright, so I'm gon na start with the long side and gayness 24:08 duck you're gon na want to put your marks not on the edge but up a little bit.

You'll see why this 24:8, you know alternate 24:8 this. If it's not two inches is not a big deal that can the size can vary. You just need something to overlap all right, so we're gon na. Do the exact same thing.

On the other side, you know we got to make V notches, so we can fold it. This is why I inset the mark, so with this line to be not sure up with it all right, this is going to be again our fold-over piece. What we want to do is just cut this off at a slight angle, and then we want to notch this end to just half of the we're going to take our tongs go ahead and fold this in both sides and we'll flip this over you're gon na Want to have something to help you fold it where you can apply pressure and give you a nice crease. So you line these two V notches up fold it to a right angle.

So now I just want to check it make sure the angles are good. Make sure that these aren't bowed alright, so now we're gon na have to secure these two. What I've come up with and again the goal is for us to be leak-free. This right here is a problem typically, so this is what I've come up with as a solution.

It works pretty well, so this is like the super sticky tape, pretty sure it's like the same stuff they use for those insect and mouse traps. It is very sticky once it sticks to something is not coming off, so we're going to work that in and get that on there. The intent of that is really to hold everything together and to take the stress off the coffee, which is doing the actual air sealing. So now we want to put a nice thick bead right here.

This is a moment of truth. You want to have everything lined up, because once this sticks it is not coming apart. You take your vice grips and you want to give room for two screws, two screws, so it won't pivot and you won't also want to give room for your s slip. So it's going to you're gon na have to have it at least an inch in just for good measure.

I like to put a few screws in here to just really hold everything together. I go right through that coffee. That's that betta caulk and I'm very careful. Not to over-tighten it and then we're gon na do is put an extra bead on here and then take one of these scrap pieces or something to kind of tool the caulk into place and get rid of that leak-free canvas connector will set this thing outside in The Sun, let it dry and then it's ready to be installed all right.
Now. We're gon na put the finishing touches on this canvas connector. We need to fold drive years now. This is still wet, so I'm gon na be careful, so we're gon na fully insert it.

These diamonds will show that I'm gon na try to put a lot of pressure on this crease. So I'm pushing down hard now, I'm gon na grip it and just squeeze it as hard as I can. What you're trying to avoid is what I call rolling it, which will create a large year. So I'm not gon na fully clamp this down, because I don't want my folding tool to get wet caulk on it.

I will finish it off with the with their tongs. So what you want, is you don't want it clamped down too tight? You want to have enough room for your drive connector to get in there, but you don't want it sticking out too far. Let's do one more side and insert it fully visually check, squeeze putting so much pressure. All the pressure right there squeeze it down same thing on this side.

I am clamping it in place, putting fresh with my thumb, folding it squeezing it another thing you can do too if you want a nice uniformed squeeze it down, while sawing with your tongs that give you a beautiful, almost factory here, all right, we're gon na go Ahead and install this slide it and see that didn't take long. Let me undo the side first. This is why you let the dry and we're gon na take our drive. Cleat slide it right in I like to get it started now.

Go to the next side. You.

Nice job, but you should have put the caulked seam to the rear so it was not showing.

Looks good. But I would have used black caulk if I was going to have a bead showing.

Everything is good except for the usage of Caulk. Now it is semiflexible.

You could also use canvas tape to seal instead of using caulking.

Hopefully in a customer's home you put that caulked joint to the rear/less visible side!!!!

What's the name of the tool you use to make the ears? Thanks great video?

You can do all that sealing up internally so it doesn't look so nasty… Other than that looks good.

Not impressed. At least put the caulking to the back side where you donโ€™t see it. Do I have to make a real video of how this is done?

With that tape it doesn't seem like you need caulk at all and definitely not the screws in the canvas. That should be airtight though. Service area Ottawa??

I would have liked to show my student's this on remote learning, but there are too many problems I see. First, always use a speed square or Tee square don't measure down both sides if the end isn't cut right your corners will be crooked, and I like folding it the opposite way it looks so much more beautiful. Everyone should know always put the sealant on last, so you don't get it all over your hands and tools and use clear, not white on black canvas. Also, screws in the canvas, really?

Going good just waiting for the air tight canvass to dry.
What?!?!๐Ÿคข what do you mean dry?
Didnt you ever hear of metal tape…pack up your tools ill have the kid finish the metal..

Great video, but I would hate if that ugly caulking job was on my system. Maybe use clear caulk or find a cleaner way to seal that up.

Why not use a canvas staple instead of screws.
