We got a four inch 20 by 24 inch, deep Merv, 13 filter and a 20 by 20 box fan. You can get one of these at your big box store. Walmart has them so we're gon na take a look at the fabrication of a box fan filter. If you looked at the Hayward score, comm Joma was talking about with healthy indoors magazine last week.
I'm talking about how to how to put one of these together and in the midst of this indoor air quality concern. We're gon na. Take a look at how to do this. It's a very cheap way of filtering your air and in this time of crisis, a lot of people can't get out to go.
Take a look at people's homes and install an inductor. Some people wants a cheap and fast alternative to be able to filter the air, and this was what they came up with, and I liked it it's pretty practical and we're going to show you how to do it. Now, where we got a 20 by 24 inch. Deep Merv, 13 filter and a 20 by 20 box fan, you can get one of these at your big-box store.
Walmart has them. This is a three speed and I think altogether this cost me, I think, maybe fifty bucks so we're gon na get the airflow pointed in the back of the fan going into the fan and then we're going to tape around the sides. We're gon na make sure that it's nice and air sealed there, so we don't have any bypassing of the filter. I do recommend keeping the feet oriented this.
These were folded out. Originally I fold it in. I have them fold it out now so that you can easily stand it up afterwards, so this video is primarily for contractors and homeowners. This is something the homeowner can easily do, but this is also something that would be good for contractors to talk to about their about with their homeowners, about with their clients and everything.
As far as a lot of times, people are not gon na be able to find these 4-inch filters at a Lowe's or Home Depot. So these are something that they can also. They can still support local businesses contractors, small companies, because they can provide these filters for the homeowner, and you can even fabricate them on-site for the homeowner relatively cheaply, and that is it that's pretty much it as far as making sure that all of the seams are Nice and tight and making sure we don't have any air bypassing the filter, as it's turned on and all you have to do is plug it in I keep it on speed number two: if you have the three three speed fan, you can put it on speed. Three just to clarify: once you get this nice and air sealed on all four sides, making sure you don't have any air, that's gon na bypass the filter.
This is a great option for people who may be sensitive during the season changes you can see. I've already got pollen sitting on this, making sure we got a good Merv thirteen filter. Another thing that I wanted to point out as well. You can see here.
I've got a little spray bottle. This is filled with refrigeration technologies. Evap plus this is an enzyme based cleaner, it is pH neutral and what it's going to do is is essentially it's going to be attacking a biofilm. That's on surfaces. I use it. It's actually great surface cleaner, not just for coils. You can also use it around. The kitchen, I also spoke to John Pasteur, illo, the founder of refrigeration technologies, and I was asking him what, if we were using Viper HD and the heavy-duty condenser coil cleaner, that is typically used to clean coils and he that evap coils, condensers and evaporators.
This is also another pH neutral or a fairly neutral cleaner. He actually uses this around his house himself and he actually says he uses a twenty to one ratio: mixing the cleaner twenty parts, water one part cleaner and he puts it in a spray bottle. He uses it around the house himself, so in a time where cleaners are also pretty scarce, Lysol wipes and disinfectant cleaners. You can also use this around the house and, of course, it's very concentrated so using it in a twenty to one ratio will take you pretty far, so that's pretty much it.
You would run this, make sure you don't run it on speed number two making sure we don't burn up the motor inside here, because this might, as the filter conveniens get clogged up, we're going to have a significant pressure drop across it and the motor inside here. If you're running it perpetually over a longer period of time that motor might burn up, so we want to protect the motor from that. So I run it on speed two. This is not going to in any way protect anyone from Co.
Vid 19. This is a cheap and practical way of filtering the air at a time when people may not be able to have technicians come into their home, open up their ductwork and install and design for an induct media filter upgraded filtration. This is something that everyone can do right now for under a hundred dollars to help filter the air you could use activated carbon filter that might have a larger pressure drop so definitely be aware of the fan speed, but that is something that would take care of Vocs and the higher Merv rating you go, the more particulate you're going to be able to catch efficiently, but something that needs to be said is that this is not a cure-all. This is not going to save you in any way from a virus, but it can't hurt to help and cleaning the air and making sure that you're what you breathe inside, since we are going to be inside more often that what you're breathing is clean.
Another way that you could do this in lieu of a fan is by a filter that matches the dimensions of your window. Make sure the arrow on the filter is pointing in towards the inside towards you, if you're installing it from the inside and then tape around the filter, making sure that there are no air leaks. So you could turn on your bat fans, create a negative pressure inside the home and as air comes in your also filtering it out before it enters the home that way, you're getting out rid of all the pollen and the particulate matter that might be an outside Vehicle exhaust things like that. That's another way of doing good ventilation, while also filtering the outside air, making sure that it's fresh as it comes in. .
Yes it will capture airborne virus and bacteria including coronavirus keep your air purifier. B safe GB👁❤👁💪💪💪💪💪👆
👍 much appreciated 👍
Can I use a 20x20x4 media air filter by Honeywell ?
Love your work Bryan!
Was hoping to turn it on an example where to place it
Dude I was waiting for you to turn the fan on. Lol
Good stuff
Hilarious, I thought of something similar with an office fan about 10 years ago. Good stuff $$ Are you in Orleans ?
Fantastic demo and explanation.
A bit excessive on the tape
Good idea but can you use a thinner filter to ease the load on the fan motor specially in summer if the situation extends till summer?!!
Good video ,information !!! Service area Kanata??
