Hey guys, joshua griffin here before we get to the video, please click that subscribe button: hey guys, joshua griffin, air, serving the middle peninsula and the northern neck of virginia and wanted to do a video uh kind of in that series. We've already done two of them on basically a series of hvac brands and overviews of those brands, and so next in line we've got the rheem, lineup and rheem is an interesting brand to me, at least in our local area. There are some some suppliers, several suppliers, that offer riemann rude products, and then you know obviously there's some. You know some competitors and contractors and things like that that also offer it i'm just going to do a quick overview and here's the thing with reem.
I i i had a well, i had a rude rep come to us and we actually even installed a few of them. I didn't hate them, they're they're. They were okay products, but one of our things that i've always you know, hung my hat on. If you will is being able to offer something that no one else is offering, and so i remember i met with the rep and my one of my questions to him, i said: well, what do you guys offer that no one else offers what what's something proprietary, Something unique something that that i can, if i'm talking to a homeowner, that i can offer that no one else can offer, and he didn't really have an answer to that i mean he had the normal.
You know we think we're the best sort of answer, but nothing, actually, you know specific, and so i thought that was interesting. If you're watching this video and you're, you know a little more familiar with the the line, and you know you know something that they are offering. I i went on their website really. I found some things that rheem did before anyone else did, which is kind of cool, but i the the and the only real thing that i can really find on there right now is they do have a furnace that looks like is pretty high on the afu Rating it's like 98.7 percent, so i thought that was kind of cool but yeah.
So if you i mean, if, if you know something that i i don't know you know, i don't know everything. Then all you know put it down in the comments below and let's chat about it uh. Maybe there's something: i'm missing that they're offering uh one one thing about their their lineup and their and more specifically, i'm talking about their heat pumps, and that is they're. One of the only companies in the world that offer uh their reversing valves to engage in heating mode versus cooling mode.
Okay. So, if that, if you put voltage to the reversing valve that heat pump is now going going to be in heating mode, i i actually like that. I'm going to be completely honest with you, you know it, it wasn't the all, but i i do like that and the reason is if, if, let's just say, if you know it's rare, but you know it's happened, if a reversing valve coil were to fail with A lot of other brands you're going to now be in heating mode, and you know a lot of systems they're going to have some sort of backup heat anyway. So i do think it's kind of beneficial that if, if or a rheem or rude product and that coil were to fail, you're still gon na be able to get heat with your heat. You know your backup heat, but you're also going to be able to get ac with that heat pump. So i you know, that's one thing i can definitely throw out there. So, let's, let's get into the brands themselves, so reem is and i'm not really sure how it all works. You know who the who the big you know conglomerate is that offers it all.
You know that that owns it all that might be remits themselves, i'm not sure uh. It looks like that they're, either affiliated or owned by a brand called paloma, and the only time i've seen paloma in my you know around here is i do. I did have a tankless water heater with that brand on it, there's not a lot of suppliers offering that brand in our area getting away from that. If we're talking about the heating and air side of things, you've kind of got rheem and rude, you know they're kind of like pretty much the same they're the equivalent to one another.
So if you've got a contractor coming to your house trying to sell you a ream and another contractor selling you a roode, you're you're able to compare apples to apples, the parts are interchangeable. It's basically the same equipment with a different label on it. So and that's not uncommon, i've. I've mentioned that with several other brands with in our videos.
So but i just want you to be aware that if you have two different contractors pushing those two different brands that they're basically selling you the same thing and then you know they're actually affiliated with a few other brands go to wikipedia. If you want to know what all those brands are, i'm not going to get into all of that one brand that i see that they make that i have seen in our area is weather king. I have seen that uh. In my you know, career i've come across that brand before so anyway.
I i don't know if any of this helps if you're comparing rheem to another brand, i will say this: i do have friends that are in this line of work and they will not sell anything else. They have their reasons, and i think that those are you know valid reasons to them. You know if you, if you have a contractor that is trying to sell you rheem, feel free to ask them why? Why do you sell this and not something else? I've always said at griffinaire, we don't sell what we sell, because my dad owned the business or you know i inherited the business or bought the business or whatever i started griffin air from the ground up and tried multiple brands. You know tested them out, made sure they were going to reach our standards and and that's how we decided on it.
So if you're talking to somebody and they're talking about the you know the rheem or rude brands and it is pronounced rude by the way uh, if you say it wrong, and you say it, you know rud or something else like that uh they for some reason Get offended so they it is rude. So if you have somebody trying to push either rude or ream with you and try to sell you something uh, just ask them why? Why do you why this and not you know something else so, and you know they might give you a really good reason. You know, i don't think one and i'm gon na do a video on this soon, but i don't think that there's one brand that's better than the rest in every market. Okay, i'm gon na say that again, there's not one brand, that's better than the rest in every market and i'll give you a good example, one of the brands that we sell. I used to deal with this supplier when i lived in richmond with a company that i worked for, and they were not fun to deal with. They were i'm not gon na get into. You know all the ins and outs, but let's just say that they weren't great and um, but they are not so that the way the suppliers work they own their own sets of stores and then they're franchised. I guess, and so the the supplier that we use down here way better, very responsive they've been great uh, so you know that's that's one example of you know you might have you know, suppliers or even brands.
There are some markets that some brands are just not available. You just can't get it. So how could you say that that brand is the best in you know, in every market, across the nation, uh there's buck um? How can you say that that's the best brand? You know in every market across the nation. If you know you can't even get it in that market right, so you know who's to say if you were to go to a a particular market, it's very possible that whether it's riemann, roode or another brand might be way better than everybody else in that market.

Is Rheem and Rudd the same?
Been a Rheem/Ruud Hvac dealer for 15 years. I’ve tried other brands but always go back to the old green machine.
Rheem / Ruud is ok. The only thing I like about them is their evap coil option with the Cond. drain sticking out corner of case coil. Otherwise they are oks.

Question I’m in the process of purchasing a rheem 3ton 16 seer but it shows condenser Rudd air handler rheem will it be ideal to purchase a rheem 3 ton 14 seer and it shows condenser rheem air handler rheem? My thoughts is to go with Rheem all the way do to my existing rheem lasted for 15 years. Thank you in advance.
I got a Rheem heat pump that a 10sheer and is 21years old. I going to haft to replace it . ITS has to have 2lbs of refrigerant about every 1-2 years.
Not sure their reliability now, but I have a Rheem 3 Ton Classic Heat pump installed in 1999 13 Seer that runs almost 24/7 Summer and Winter and it is now 17 years old. Only broke down one time. The copper tube near the compressor rubbed a tiny hole in it from the vibration from the compressor and leaked all freon out. They fixed the hole and re-charged it. The Condenser fan died this spring and I replaced it with a used fan. Getting ready to replace the system. My step dad was a Master Plumber/HVAC. He sold Rheem from the fact he rarely ran into compressor problems with them. Anyway times change and my Neighbor has a newer model Rheem and he has had issues with his. Replaced Coil soon after install and the capacitors go out a lot on it. I may go with Trane for my next system, but it is a hard choice after having such great luck with Rheem:P
I'm not trying to push Rheem but…….I installed a Rheem Classic 14 central air system in 2000. It was pretty much state of the art back then. The air handler (TXV) has an ECM motor. So far (knock on wood), all I've done in 21 years is replace the start/run capacitor in the condenser,and just last week the control transformer in the air handler. That's about $35 in parts. I'm not complaining.
I don't want to purchase an HVAC system that has something unique, proprietary, or unusual. I want to buy a Toyota. Reliable, not overly expensive, not unique. Something that will run, something that will be safe, something that is economical, something that is affordable, something that any HVAC contractor can fix it. Something that is America Made. I don't need to pay for some 'unique' feature.
I have made a comment on one your videos I'm looking to put a 14 seer air conditioner outside and replace my electric heater in my mobile home I have talked to some contractors and most seem to be rude and kind of deceptive I was thinking a tempstar with the scroll single stage compressor are one of carrier brands I asked the contractor was he going to replace the copper line on outside unit to the coils inside and he said no the line is 28 years old myself I would should it be replaced.
I've been looking pretty closely at Rheem/Ruud. I think one of their interesting offers is their "Econet" system, which unifies the home/away management of both HVAC and Hot Water heater. I think that it's possible that HVAC contractors that don't get much into plumbing might be missing this more wholistic look at home energy. That being said, I'm not super in to being forced to buy their special thermostat to get the most from that feature.
One thing that used to set them apart not sure now was there high end furnaces used spark ignition which sounds worst but is extremely reliable that’s why they use it in commercial equipment some my disagree but we see quite a few in central Illinois and I have never seen one have an ignition problem from the sparker but it’s not like I have worked on thousands we don’t have a rheem dealer here.

They’ve made some updates since 2015 that’s pretty great. We sell them and Trane. They are still using a Copeland scroll compressor. That seems like it might be standard nowadays but trane and Lennox are using alliance compressors now and Carrier has started using LG compressors now. The condenser/heat pump split design is extremely easy to service. You can break one down to the base plate in less than 2 minutes and it’s really easy to get back together. Their furnace is not as easily serviceable. Their coils used to be horrible but 5 years ago they went to an all aluminum design and I’ve had little to no Freon leaks since they did that. Their residential package units have a lifetime heat exchanger warranty because their made from stainless now and I’ve had great success from their commercial series units. I never do anything but replace belts on them. Really easy to service and they use the carrier footprint now which can save you some money if it’s replacing a carrier because there’s no adapter curb needed. Don’t think that most of those things separate them from everyone else, but probly better than the jargon a salesman gave you. Are you in Nepean ?
Isn't the direct spark ignition unique to Rheem? They claim it's supposed to be more reliable but is it?
Hello. I have a new Ruud furnace Model # R801TA050317MUA low nox. My question is during operation is it normal for the unit to make a weird low frequency noise almost sounds like a pig grunting lol. It’s so annoying because it’s loud enough to wake me up at night! I called the tech who installed it and said that it isnormal for this low nox system to make that noise. I just want to get your perspective. Thank you. Service area Barrhaven??

Aside from quality of construction and reliability, the most critical characteristic is serviceability. From what I can tell, Rheem provides a lot of access to the condenser unit parts. Curious how serviceable a Rheem blower motor and control board/connections are. I just did my Comfortmaker blower motor/board and cap and it was a breeze the way ICP mounts the motor. At 17 yrs old, my system has a new lease on its life…I’m hoping. With all my refurbishments, i worry about the compressor and furnace…so I think about serviceabilty as a top criteria in searching for replacements.

Rheem also seems to be one of the only companies that offers a hot water heat coil for folks that live in a condo and the builder installed a First Co. hydro heat air handler in the attic and no gas line. It is designed to work with their tankless water heaters though I do not see why it would not work with a standard hot water heater? It is difficult to find any HVAC installer that admits that they work on hydro heat air handlers. When time to replace is it common to switch to a heat pump instead? I wonder…
Rheem offers a limetime replacement warranty on their R98 furnaces only on natural gas though Service area Kanata??
