So so so so uh, can you guys hear me? Okay? Oh there we go so i'm on a service call right now um. This is the one that i had to stop for my live stream and uh. I got to the site. Let me log into here.

So i can see the chat there. We go see if anybody comes in here. I don't know if anybody would come in here or not, but um yeah i got to the site and the circuit breaker was tripped and if you guys want to define irony here, this is the unit that i just changed. The compressor on that had rocks in it and uh.

We had a bad connector fan motor. Well, i'm hoping that's all that's wrong. I didn't change the fan motors and uh. When i got here.

The unit had a trip breaker and i reset the breaker, and then i uh, i um isolated the compressor from the picture. I checked. Continuity to ground couldn't find anything shorted out and then i uh isolated. The compressor from the picture turned the breaker back on the breaker, wouldn't reset.

The breaker was actually full of sand. I'll. Take you over here and show you the breaker. It's a trip i had to physically take the breaker out.

This is a horrible breaker panel by the way, but i had to take the breaker out this one right here. I had to physically take the whole breaker out and shake all the sand off of it. You guys can't see it, but a crap ton of sand came out of that breaker and uh because it wouldn't reset. So then i was able to put it back into the panel and get it to reset.

So i don't know what caused the breaker to trip, but i do know that one of the condenser fan motors was locked up. I could just tell by trying to spin it it wouldn't uh spin, it's locked, so i disconnected that condenser fan motor thinking that might have been the problem. So i disconnected that and uh turned the breaker back on the compressor fired up that fan motor fired up and it started to go up really high on head pressure. It's currently, if i had to guess it's over 100 degrees out here, right now, maybe 90, maybe mid 90s or something so for those that are just logging in right.

Now, i'm on a service call at the moment and if you guys recognize the unit. This is from my recent video, the compressor that had rocks in it. Now i shot this video like four months ago or something like that, but they called me out in the middle of my live stream and uh yeah, it's a mess so anyways i'm changing. This fan motor right now.

I've got a couple 9721 fan motors over here. You always want to make sure the refrigeration stuff. You guys got these, so i have uh two 97 21: some penetrating oil, i'm gon na change, both fan motors they're, not getting a choice and then turn it back on and hope that that's what caused the breaker to trip was that fan motor because i couldn't Prove it um, so we'll see, yeah definitely looks familiar, it's a compressor with rocks in it. So so yeah here we are um.

I'm gon na try to get you guys a shot here. While i'm doing this, i don't know how well this is gon na go because uh uh yeah this might be a mess here, i'm actually it's probably gon na get loud guys. So if you have headphones on, take them off or something because i'm gon na unplug my headphones right now all right! Sorry about that, okay, so uh! I know it's probably still loud, but i've got to do this, so i'm going to change this right now. For those that want to watch go for it, if not, it's all good put some penetrating oil on there.
I don't know how well you guys can hear me so so, for those that are just tuning in this is the compressor that i just replaced about. Four months ago that i just released the video for look at that how about them? Apples, i'm still here so all right. I can see the chat too, so i'll try to pay a little bit of attention to it. So we got to get this motor out kind of a mess.

The walk-in was like at 50 degrees. Well, yeah. The 9721 motors will fit in this perfect. This uh klein 11-1 or whatever this thing is, is nice too yeah? That's the exhaust fan running in the background for the restaurant, oh, the joys of working on the roof.

You guys see all that sand coming out. That's what the desert does to you there's sand everywhere. Oh thanks for the super chat. Whoever gave me a super chat.

That's awesome guys uh wolf. Thank you very much, but i can't pay a whole lot of attention to the chat. So i got ta get this done. Sucks man, my wife was making freaking eggplant fried eggplant for dinner man.

I was so stoked and then i had this service call sucks. So i get soggy fried eggplant when i go home, but it'll be better than nothing so these 9721s they actually have ball bearings in them, they're, actually really nice motors, i like them. I just don't like how many wires they have, so i can't use them for uh for um evaporator fan motors, but i use them for condensers all day long, all right, let's see what we can do with this fits like a glove. I am in rancho mirage.

California, so yeah 96 degrees outside right now, guys it's still hot and it's uh what eight o'clock p.m. It's hot out here, yeah small business is uh fun stuff. The only thing that this uh this driver is missing is in 11 30 seconds because a lot of these uh condenser fan motors, they usually either use 3 8 or 11 30 seconds, and i have one in the van, but i'm not going to go, get it. That's probably going to get really loud with that other condenser that just started up so for those that are just tuning in i don't know how well you can hear me.

I got oh storm. Thank you so very much for the super chat man. I really appreciate that so um walking cooler not working when i arrived, the breaker was tripped. I tried to reset it, it wouldn't reset it just kept tripping.

I checked for grounds before i reset it. First, though, nothing was grounded, but i found a locked up. Condenser fan motor, so i uh isolated. The motor turned it back on and it ran without tripping the breaker, but i had to pull the breaker out and knock all the sand out of it.
It was full of sand that sucked all right. I got ta test fit this to find out where to put the blade, that's actually pretty good right there we're going to swap this guy out it's funny. I had to tell the manager, because everybody has like real early hours now, so i can tell the manager, don't leave, don't leave me, i mean they can technically, but i just don't like it when they leave all right cool that fits. So i'm just gon na uh uh screw it in real, quick and then uh i'll do the electrical.

Once i get the other motor changed out, i'm gon na change them both they're, not getting a choice. The sand in the desert just kills everything so for those that are just tuning in again. I know i'm probably repeating myself, but this is the unit that i just changed. Uh.

It was my most recent video the compressor had rocks in it. I actually changed this compressor like four months ago, but it had fat fan motor. It's what happens. People ask me why i change so many parts.

It's because of this crap yeah breaker full of sand. It wasn't fun, make sure this is good. Cool looks good i'll fix the electrical here in a minute. We're going to get the other one changed out too yeah pm is so important.

Nobody's been doing it, though, so these things are really cool. This little fitting. I've shown this on my videos before i get it from kmart many years ago, but it fits a quarter inch. You can put a socket on the socket wrench on one side, but i don't carry a socket wrench in my bag, but i carry a ratchet quarter.

Inch so i can put it right there and then i have ratcheting ability, so i would carry like three or four of these 97 21 condenser fan motors in my truck. For this reason, since one was bad because we're out here in the desert, i'm changing them both and i'm kicking myself in the butt, because i didn't change them. When i changed the compressor, i should have done it little penetrating oil. Oh man, that one doesn't want to.

Let go well the customers they don't. They don't go for me like making pms required. It's just tiny materials. So come on there.

We go told you i'd win my doyle rules, someone tell me what that's from standard everything yeah no worries guys. I mean when i can i'll take you guys on these calls. I'm sorry about the audio, though i wish it wasn't so bad. I still haven't figured out the perfect audio.

I have the microphone that i was talking in earlier, but the problem is that uh, it's not long enough for me to be able to give you guys a view. Yeah, that's a good point. Gabe. I probably shouldn't toss the blades, but i'm genuinely not a smart guy.

I tend to tend to just toss crap around. I use the field piece. Sc480 meter really nice little meter. It does a phase rotation for nights like this.
I've got a backlight really nice. Thank you so very much for that super chat bud. I really appreciate it. Man, okay, for those that are just tuning in see all that sand coming out of this.

That's was in the circuit breaker and the motors everything. Thank you so much for that super chat. I don't know if i already said it for that one yeah, it's a long day for sure my poor wife man. I love you babe, i'm sure she's watching she was like so happy to make dinner tonight and then i come out of my live stream and i'm like got ta go bye 97-21 yep joe saved the day.

Man i keep. I was telling everybody. I usually keep three or four of these in the truck. Get you out of a bind for sure, so we're changing them both we're not giving them a choice.

I'm out here on overtime, they're, getting two motors done. Yeah overtime calls do suck. Sometimes i get back to dinner anytime soon, when i aimed at the stream. I just i've only been here for a half hour.

It took me an hour and a half to get here, so it'll be bedtime by the time i get home. As far as the compressor bracket breaking i don't know, that's an interesting one who knows man, you know i mean it could have. It could have been a lot of comments had said it and it's probably right. It could have been dropped like from day one and always been fatigued or it just could have been worn out.

This desert life out here really beats the crap out of these things. It could have had slugging at one time. Who knows it's hard to say? The life expectancy of everything out here in the desert is very minimal, very, very minimal, so yeah. If i was really smart, i brought my 11 30 seconds up all right and chicago see having to put their damn blades on backwards.

I'm gon na put it where i think it goes and then do a test fit and see if it works. Yeah, that's pretty good. I like it so we're gon na torque it down we'll, go loose tight, loose and then each time go tighter. There we go all right now.

We need to put this guy back in. You know what, even if uh, even if i plugged every hole we've taken like boxes and wrapped them in duct tape the sand, it's desert sand, it gets in anything, just got to deal with it. Now we got to figure out how to wire these things. It's not going to be pretty.

Thank you so very much for that. Super chat, bob appreciate it bud, fan blade, spin, looks good, okay, so we're gon na wire, two of them together, and then one of them is gon na power in just check out yeah. It's going to go in and out probably so, i'm here, let's see if it comes back all right. So now we got to get this guy wired all right, so we need to wire to purple and white for 208 volts, purple and white.

Everything else is going to get taken out. It's going in and out sorry guys, all right, let's see if it stays so anyways we're going to purple and white. It's not going to be ideal, but it'll be better than nothing get them wired together. So again, the super chats that are coming in you guys are awesome.
Thank you, yeah! I'm not i'm not proud of this wiring that i'm having to do definitely not proud of it. Okay, we'll clean that up in a minute, so black and orange gets go together. You know the funny thing is i got perfect. 4G right now.

I use verizon and i'm i've got great 4g service, but i don't know why it's buffering uh refrigeration. I wouldn't say it's that much harder than just air conditioning. It's just uh, some just a few more things controls lower temperatures. That's it nothing too crazy.

Okay, so that'll work right there not ideal, not going to be pretty okay, so black and orange are going together. Yeah refrigeration has more components, but i mean as long as you understand basic electricity, and you understand the refrigeration cycle and the stuff that i'm doing it's not the end of the world all right. Thank you. So very much for that super chat.

Man. That's awesome appreciate it as soon as i get this wired in i'll pick up the camera and show you guys around. My back is killing me right now from bending over in this weird angle, all right seriously, my back it hurts some zip ties going on on this guy. I have a knee pad.

I just it's not convenient to work in here right now and do all this electrical up here. Okay, so i mean not nothing to write home about, but functional, okay. So here's what we're gon na do. I'm gon na bring you guys down to my level so watch out.

The camera is gon na move. There we go now. I got to tie it into the electrical panel, all right, so there's no power in here at the moment, so we're safe all right. We need to tie this in um.

I don't think i want these to be on fan cycle anymore, it's just too hot, so we are going to eliminate the fan cycle control all right. Let's see what we got in here. We just got to wire it into the bottom of the contactor they're, going to run whenever the compressor runs. It doesn't get cool enough out here to have to worry about, fan, cycling, okay and a couple slip-on connectors, uh.

208. It's 208 three-phase, almost everything i deal with it's occasionally. I come across 460 volt, but that's it. It's always 208 three-phase 404 pressures.

Well, the pressures are variable on the temperature, so we're going to run about 30 degrees over ambient temperature for the condensing temp on 404. On this system, so my my condensing temp right now is probably going to be around 115 120 degrees, it's easier when you're doing refrigeration, to not worry about the pressures and pay attention to the condensing temps and the saturation temperatures evaporator temperatures, because that will get you In the ballpark, then it doesn't matter what flavor refrigerant you have you just pay attention to what the temperature should be. So all right. So here's the deal.
We got to check phase rotation now or i'm sorry, not phase rotation, but we got to make sure that the condenser fan motors are rotating the right way. The other thing i need to do is double check that i wired them correctly. So i'm going to look at the schematic here, this little schematic that comes with them and it says purple and white are my uh line voltage. It says black and orange go together and yellow gets insulated by itself and that's what i did here yeah.

So we're good we're good. We need to check rotation so we're gon na go step over here. Oh thank you. So very much for that super chat.

That is awesome all right, so we're gon na go over uh bump the breaker oh, but check this out. This is how i can do this. I'm going to put the unit into a defrost see. Then it won't turn on so we're going to come over here and see if this breaker will reset okay breakers on and let's go right here and then we'll check rotation to see if they're rotating the right way.

Okay, okay, compressor's running! Let's make sure this is correct. That is correct on the left, one that is correct on the right one, so they're both rotating the correct direction. So let's go ahead and fire it up and see what happens? I got ta fix. This compressor is uh loud blowing.

A bunch of sand out too all right. Let's grab my meter. This bad boy's probably been going on and off on high head pressure all day today, so the compressor is really uh beat down. Let's get this guy on here.

Oh, that's! Not it! That's the wrong! One where's the compressor, here's the compressor there we go compressor's running 12 amps. If i remember right, i think you were allowed to run like 11. I don't know any of you guys. Remember the video i just posted, but it's under a heavy heavy load right now.

So uh, so my gauges are right here. Okay, i don't know if yeah you guys should be able to see that so we're dealing with 404a and we're currently running a 100 degree. 130 degree saturation, temperature, 22 degree, evaporator temperature, 20 degree evaporator temperature right now. So we're gon na, let it run for a little while and see how it works.

Um looks like the sight: glass is flashing, just a hair, but we'll give it a little bit. Let the coils load up and uh we'll let it calm down. Compressor is calming down it's at uh, 11.9 amps. I want to say from the last video i was allowed to run right at like 11 amps or something so, let's see what happens here, um cool all right.

So, let's recap here: uh we had a service call when i got here. This is my most recent video, where i had to change a compressor. It said it had rocks in it, okay, that video was from like four months ago, but i um yeah 11.3, or something like that yeah, it's it's expected to be a little over. So when i got here today, the walk-in was at 55 degrees.
The evaporative fan motors were running and the breaker up on the roof was tripped. I came over here to the contactor, the load side i tested for continuity to ground. I had none i tested for continuity to ground on the line side. I had none.

So i went over to the breaker tried to get it to reset and it wouldn't reset, but i could tell it felt like it had sand in it. So i pulled the whole breaker out of the panel and shook it and shook all the sand out of the breaker. The sight glass is just about cleared up by the way, so i shook all the sand out of the breaker and then i put it back in the panel and i was able to get it to reset oh wait before i reset it. The last time i came over here and i found that we had a bad fan motor that was uh stuck, so i disconnected that electrically thinking that that might be the problem, disconnected that electrically connected the compressor and the left fan motor back up started it up And it started, but we went really high on the head pressure because it was only running one fan um, so i had an idea that everything was okay.

My thought is, is that the breaker had sand in it, so that makes it run hot, and i have a feeling this compressor had been, because this is an auto reset pressure, control that had been cycling all day on off on off on off and that in The bad fan motor something in there caused the breaker to trip. I'm hoping that's all that it is because we're running now, okay, so the the current draw is going up a little bit because now my coil is really loaded and it's really moving heat in the box, so we're at about 11.9 12 amps right now. So we're going to let it run, it's got a cool suction. We got a clear sight: glass, it's currently wow.

Is it really 112 right? Now, let's put that right, there we'll watch this for a sec. I don't think it's 112. I think that it was getting uh, some uh, false air, there i'll put it right there and then we'll. Let it sit.

I think it's about 90 95 degrees, so um yeah. So that's it. So we're waiting to see if it's running, okay, yeah we're dropping in current, draw we're down to 11.6 amps. Let's see what's going on here, uh 126 degrees saturation temperature.

Let's see what this uh! Oh, it is. It's 102 degrees outside right now guys nine o'clock at night 102 degrees. So i would expect us to run just about 30 degrees over ambience, so we're looking pretty good um evap temp's a little bit low, but very common that uh evaps are probably oversized. It's not matched with the condenser right, so it's gon na mess with your td for sure um.

So i changed both fan motors uh knock that out. Do me a favor guys and smash the like button. It really helps out the stream. Let's see get those numbers way high on the likes okay, i really really appreciate that it helps with uh youtube recommending my stuff so smash it real, quick guys, really all right um.

What's the humidity, it's non-existent um if i had to guess less than 20 humidity. So yeah it's it's not that hot there's not there's, never really much humidity here, so all right, um! So we're looking good, i'm gon na start cleaning up some of my messes. I got stuff going on everywhere. Right now two fan motors right there i brought some cord just in case i'm hoping we're gon na be okay, we're looking good, so we're getting there all right.
I'm gon na set you guys back in the tripod and uh bring you guys over here. Real quick sorry make you guys dizzy so for those that are just tuning in we're on a walking cooler call right now so and man, i think i said it already for a lot of the people in here, but my wife was making a killer dinner. She was making fried eggplant and then i had to leave bummer all right. I'm gon na set you guys right here, while i kind of clean up my work area so so yeah we still got uh quite a few fires going on in my area, um.

The bobcat fire, i believe, is the one closest to me and i believe that one's doing really good, but then there's a there's another one in like the azusa area running through the angelus national forest. I can't remember what that one's called, but that one's still going really strong and that's not good up north there's a crap time. So, hey guys, if you could help me out, get me up to 500 likes smash that, for me, please sweet thanks guys for doing that. It really really helps out the stream, so it helps out with uh.

My understanding is it. It makes youtube recognize me more. When i have interaction on my channel, then they tend to recommend it more to help the channel grow at least the way i understand it. The digital backlight on these field piece gauges is awesome.

You got ta admit that andre. Thank you so much for that super chat bud. So by letting it run like this and then cleaning up, i you know. Realistically i got about a half an hour.

It allows me because i, i still don't know exactly what caused the breaker to trip like. I love to see things that prove themselves, and this one didn't really prove itself. I basically disconnected the fan motor, it didn't trip anymore, but the fan motor wasn't grounded so by letting it run like this. It really lets me kind of you know, make sure that everything's working okay with it it is very possible that it is a weak breaker.

Like i had said earlier, the breaker was literally full of sand. When i i pulled it out of the panel and i shook it and like just sand, kept falling out of the breaker, so it's a very good possibility that that was part of the problem. The sand would cause it to overheat if it wasn't making good contact. Ryan, thank you so much for that.

Super chat bud you're awesome, so i just set the defrost and uh what i did i'll do it from back here. Hopefully you guys can see it. So what i did i'm trying to keep you guys out of the wind is i set, i start with 12 12 6 6 and then, after that, i put about an hour long defrost from two to three in the morning. Just make sure that it's nowhere near when they're gon na be here and then i did another 15 minute later in the evening.
So but i always do like an hour to 45 minute long, defrost like in the middle of the night when they're not here. So i am drawing the whole unit. Uh, i was checking am drawing the compressor right at 12 amps, so the unit's gon na run another two and a half amps three amps i'll get a full total load, we'll go open up the breaker panel in a minute and look in there all right. Let's go take a walk over here so so, because the breaker is full of sand, i'm going to tell them to get an electrician to replace it.

Now it had a cover on it, but it's still like that's all sand, guys, like the whole breaker panel's. Full of sand, so this is a 20 amp breaker running 12 amps right now, 13 amps on one leg: 12 amps on another, so the breaker's not overloaded, everything's fine. With that it's getting hot, though the breaker's definitely hot. So i think the internals on that breaker are bad um, not my style, not my thing i'll.

Let the electrician handle that be honest with you. They should change every breaker in that panel, but i did. I already took the breaker i'll blow this out. No not right now i'll, let the electrician do that.

I don't want to create more crap for me right now. It's windy, it'll just all blow in my eyeballs, so it's not a very sturdy cover. It doesn't do a great job holding it on there. Thank you.

So much for that super chat that came through that's awesome. All right. Let's go take a walk again: foreign thanks dallas! That's awesome, bud, dallas and blake. You guys are awesome thanks.

So all right guys we're gon na wrap this up yeah. I do need knee pads, but luckily this is a rubber membrane roof. So it's super easy. It's not hard, but i'm going to wrap this up because i got to clean up all my tools and get off the roof.

So do me a favor smash. The like button, no no supper but i'll i'll, hopefully eat when i get home. If i don't stop early uh yeah thermal camera would be a great thing, but not this late. At night, it's a little picture diagnosis kind of night, not a big picture.

Diagnosis kind of night, so all right guys appreciate it. I'm going to end it right now and.

@HVACR Why was the wiring you performed was not self satisfactory?

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Art Houston says:

You are correct. Not only should every breaker in the panel be changed, but the panel should be replaced with one listed for dusty conditions. If not, this will happen all over again, at a total cost greater than the two sets of breakers being replaced. Since the dust/sand affects the circuit protection operation, this condition should be looked at as a fire hazard.
