This video is brought to you by spore'ln quality, integrity and tradition. We've got a service call on a walk-in cooler, that's not working, and it is. I stopped solid. I hate these low profiles, ceiling-mounted close, but it's iced up all the way to be here too.

So super thick: this is one we just ran a new line set on two, but I bet you anything that has a little something to do with it. Door doesn't shut. This is the one that yeah we just ran this beeline set for this one, but anyways iced up, I'm gon na go ahead and shut off the compressor breaker. The evaporator fan should still be running.

I'm gon na go ahead and assemble all my stuff and then get my hoses and all that good stuff, but I'll let the fans run and try to defrost it for a little bit. First thing I noticed too was: I just finished this line set about a week ago, and I set this defrost clock and it doesn't have the right time. So that's probably something going on there with the defrost clock for sure you can see that frozen on the thermal camera thing over here frozen as you can see in the middle we've got high air temps, 50 degrees in the middle and then the ice temperature. Obviously, it's starting to act as an insulin, but it's frozen solid people going in and out this door doesn't shut.

It's completely broken off the thing and it's sitting down, so it's it's damaged. The bottom of it right here is damaged too. I had to wait for them to finish getting their delivery. They just had a bunch of food delivered into their walk-in, but all right.

So at this point the condensing units turned off. I've got a power switch right here for my evaporator fan motors, I'm gon na pull the fan guards very important that I put the screws back in when the fan guards come off because the water will leak out of those holes so put the screws back in I'll pull the fan blades, maybe the motors just depending I am gon na be using my wand. So I am able to do things a little bit more carefully, but you don't want to get the motors wet. So if there's any question just pull the motors out, we ask so I'm gon na get a defrosted and then now once we get a defrost, it will turn it back on and I'll show you guys.

What's up, you can see that the ice is like super thick all the way inside, so we're gon na, get it defrosted again, being very careful with the motors I'm gon na use my wand, but if it starts getting splashback, then I'll chain take the motors out. You usually want to be really careful. The customer is totally okay with me getting water on the ground, but you always want to pay attention to where you're at you can't get water. On a raised floor, you can't get water on the ground in a walk-in freezer, but this is a walk-in cooler and the customer just wants us out now.

The only problem I have is is that the delivery guy just put all those boxes on the ground, so I'm gon na try to watch to make sure the water is not going that way, but I'm using my wand. You definitely want to get one of these wands because you have a very precise shower and it doesn't make a mess. I love this one, I'm not spending all day, but you know I gave it a quick little wipe down, got the black crap all off the route where the fan guards cover and stuff. Like that so cleaned up my messes on the floor, I always give the manager the option.
If they want me to clean it I'll gladly do it. So I went ahead and did it real quick because they wanted me to so we're gon na go ahead and put this guy back together. All right. I have not even gone up on the roof to put my gauges on it, but because of the door and because of the defrost clock that didn't have the right time on it, and I said it the other day I decided to go ahead and change the.

Why I needed to change the temp control? Well, I needed each. I should say I decided to change the defrost clock, but the easiest way is to go ahead and put a key to therm, temp, + defrost controller and because it's going to be a thermostat and a temp control and a couple things that it's going to do. When I install these, I usually keep a spare 40 foot sensor, not just because they only come with like a standard 18 inch sensor or something like that 2 foot. At the most I like the 40 inch one because or 40 feet I think actually yeah.

It's a really long one because I've relocated the sensor away from the door, so that way, we're not just getting all that heat turning the box on constantly at least it's got to make it over to where that fan is, and that is the return side. When I wired this in, they got kind of a funky wiring setup here, but we have a hundred and fifteen volts at that switch right. There just two wires coming into this solenoid valve. Then they were doing a little Junction in there and run into the old thermostat.

Well, I can make that work, but I had to do a few funky things. I pulled an extra-wide just pulled all three new wires in there and I end up having to make a jumper wire to go from the power over to the common terminal on the switch leg, because this thing has a power terminal. Sorry this thing has a power terminal and this thing has switches right, so we got a comment, a normally closed and normally open. So what I do, instead of trying to push, because I had to put a jumper wire in there as I took the power wire, went into a wire nut and then have two wires coming off of that go into the two spots where I need a hot Wire, it just saves me some time makes it a little bit easier and then you don't have to try to shove a bunch of wires in that little.

So I'm gon na get this thing secured and fastened up. So I mounted the control right there. Let's see if it blows up in my face: no didn't wall up on me. Center 435 hold that differential gon na change it to three.

The cluster starts per hour. We're going to change that to off that's a time. Delay don't want to mess with that. Defrost per day, we're gon na go with probably eight because of the messed up door.
Defrost time we'll put that up to about eighteen minutes, I can't remember what that one is all I can see cool thermos. I just kicked in we're good we're gon na test. It going hit that there you go and then hold manual. Defrost should turn off the solenoid these two apart there we go so yep, it's working cool come on.

If I can take it out of manual defrost by holding matter, yep cool good, to know all right. So we're gon na go up and gage up and check out the condensing unit. Now I just hopped on the roof. I'm applying my service gauges just want to remind you that when you have service valves with a packing, we need to loosen the packing before you actuate.

The valve makes the valve last a law. Longer I got ta do is loose just a little bit. They will leak when you loosen them so be prepared for that. You can actuate it Vega all right, so we're gon na go ahead and let the system come down in temp watch it stabilize all right.

We are still under a heavy load. The box is coming down in temperature. It's going to be a little while these are our numbers right now, scroll on over it's 68 degrees outside our returned. Air temp is 47 degrees.

So it's expected to have. You know, numbers that, don't quite add up. As of yet so we're gon na, let it come down in temperature and just watch the Box operate, so I'm using the thermal camera right now, I'm going to switch between a few different views. We're gon na go with black-and-white first, and you can see the black is the hot discharge line.

The gray is the cooler line. So currently our head pressure control valve is not bypassing and you can see it because the temperatures are the same. Now I will go ahead and change the color scheme. Let's go ahead and try this one's, not a bad one right here, this one's kind of the same all right.

One thing I do want to show you guys is I'm going to come over to the other side, and I thought this was interesting. I'm going to change back to black and white so from the looks of it and this kind of makes sense. This condenser is split into two circuits step back and see because you can see it looks like we have two really hot sections, so they probably split the condenser into two circuits and then they're branching it off and then teeing them together. Coming out the liquid drain.

Coming out the bottom of the condenser, so that's kind of cool. You can actually see that other than that the box is coming down in temperature. We have a clear sight: glass, everything's, looking good got some probes on it. The box is coming down to temp, nice and good.

It's gon na be a little while, but just came to check on it we're gon na. Let it run for a bit, and I noticed the super heat was starting to calm down already, I think last I checked it was out like 12 or 15 degrees, which is good, so I'm gon na go ahead and wrap it up it's at about 44. I think right now 43, something like that. So yeah, I'm gon na wrap it up.
I went ahead and took all the pins out of the defrost clock. I don't even need to on wire it again. This equipment is slated to be replaced very soon, so we're gon na go ahead and wrap this up. I'm gon na take all my probes off and we're gon na call this one quits my thermometer, my field piece probe the same 43.6 that same 43.

That sounds good to me set for 35. I might actually go a little bit higher than 35 just to be safe because I don't want it to freeze up. I put a three degree differential. So am I go to 36 with a 3, so anyways, but yep we're good customers.

Happy, like I said this equipments slated to be replaced, so we'll be doing that soon, all right when I first got this service call for this walk-in cooler. I panicked because it was about a week after we did the line set replacement and I got a call in the walk-in cooler and my thoughts going through my head. Was it's gon na? Be a call back? Oh no. You know I didn't want that.

I have to tell you that was the happiest. I've ever been to see an ice step. Evaporator coil, I was ecstatic. I didn't care that it was late in the afternoon.

It was all good. It was not my problem right, so I was happy to find that it was iced up went through the system. It was very obvious when I walked into the box, and I had already known that that door was a problem that the door doesn't shut and then I you know as I'm working in there, the cooks are coming in and out and the door never shuts. Okay, you have to have self closing hardware and those doors have to close themselves, because if you rely on someone to push it shut, it's not gon na happen when you're working in restaurants so and then the fact that the defrost clock, like I mentioned, didn't, have The right time - and I had said it the previous week and nobody's been shutting off the power to that box.

So there's no reason for that: defrost clock not to have the correct time. So that's why I went ahead and made the decision to go and put the kita therm, temp, Plus defrost controller and there I don't necessarily think there was anything wrong with the temperature controller. But I could just knock it out, get a temp control and a defrost clock all in one shot, eliminate the problem on the roof, and then I went ahead and moved the sensor away from the door and moved it closer to the middle of the box. It's still gon na you know the door being left open still gon na affect the box, but at least the temp sensor isn't right there getting all that warm air making the box run all the time.

Okay showed a couple different images with the thermal-imaging camera I'll link. You know that thermal engine camera down in the show notes, but it is a Seikh shot. Pro is the thermal imaging camera that I was using in that video? It's pretty cool. I will say for those of you that are interested in the seek shot Pro the audio.
It does not record audio okay. I had to do some some interesting things to get the audio to sync. Up to that, I used my other camera, and you know I kind of copy and pasted it and moved audio around in my editing software. So don't go buying that camera thinking that you're gon na get audio.

It does not record the audio okay but um yeah. There wasn't too much else going on with that box. I really didn't see any problems with it. It had the right refrigerant charge.

It was coming down in temperature. Everything was good other than that. Okay. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to watch these videos.

I've said it before I'll say it again: I'm starting a new youtube channel, it's gon na be called HVAC, are tools. I'm gon na be doing tool, reviews of which one of the first videos will be my thermal imaging camera showdown. Basically, where I show I'm testing three different thermal imaging cameras, another video that I'm gon na have on there soon is where I'm gon na showcase the different work pants. I bought five or six different pairs of the very most popular brands of work.

Pants and I've been trying them out and I'll say what I like and what I don't like about each pair and then from that point forward. I'll just do you know videos here and there about different tools that I like. I have all kinds of ideas in my head, so do me a favor. The link will be in the show notes of this video give that channel a subscription.

I don't have any videos up yet, but they'll be coming soon. I do live streams Monday evenings 5:00 p.m. Pacific time, where I answer, questions and address comments, and you know from Facebook YouTube emails all that good stuff, there's usually a great group of guys in there and girls actually there's a live chat, definitely come check out. The live streams, if you guys can and yeah I guess that's it - have a happy holidays.

Merry Christmas to those that celebrate that it's coming up yeah and we'll catch you guys on the next one. Okay.

sir, just for a little suggestion, you can secure, wrap/cover those evaporator fan motors with trash bag, when you need to defrost evap. fins with hot water using your wand. it helps in preventing splash back.

What are thoughts on KE2 therm? Would you not use it more often to replace defrost timers on the roof? It seems a lot more convenient to have the defrost control at the evaporator than the condensing unit. How about low temp?
