This was a service call on a Hoshizaki ice machine that had low production, I found that the machine was harvesting too early because there was sediment in the pump out check valve. I cleaned it up and the machine was working properly other than that.

For me once was a time when the rubber was so stiff I just had to change the rubber , spring was still good but I changed both anyways. They worked together. You don't mention much about it but even if a seal/hose looks good don't mean it is, the suppleness of a seal/hose matters too. Ever come across a rubber seal that is so stiff it turned into like plastic?

Dont know don't want to know! Don't work on ice makers! So any asshole questioning about his technique can go pound sand!

Thank you , I have to work on everything at a Golf course. I forgot why the ice machine could short cycle on the freeze cycle . I knew I could reference your videos.

I have an older kml450 model and don't see a pump out. Does the float do the same thing for this model? Service area Kanata??

I really liked the tips & easy troubleshooting techniques on dealing with this kind of problem. Watching the machine drain line in the freeze mode was especially useful. In your professional opinion which brand is better…Hoshizaki or Mantiwoc?

Love these vids, being in the heating and refrig/cooling business. Chris, does your company ever turn down work? Say a large chiller unit, you or staff isn’t familiar with? I know your your in the restaurant business, but do you work on small or large geothermal units? Sometimes dispatchers are afraid to turn down work, for fear of repercussions from ownership, sent to something they, or other techs know nothing about. Would love to know your opinion on turning down work, how to, showing up at a job site, with no clue, sucks.
Remember once when I first entered the trade, I was sent to a HRV, call, got a onsite, it was a 400ft water tower that had been emptied, using Hrv to dry out and repair, HRV was a tractor trailer with a 575v generator, nothing working, I looked at the crew that had came , and said “this is not me” 😂

I’ve cleaned my share of check valves in hoshi’s . Wouldn’t the debris move each harvest as water passes through ?

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bill-co says:

I hear all the time, stretch the spring. Just took a backflow testing class and in the class they said that springs may loose their psi rating. So hoshi check valve has a psi rating based on that spring. I feel we should be able to measure that, to let the the house know that the spring is strong enough to resist the pressure of the pump.

I've always wondered how all these commercial cooling/heating systems worked. You're narration is great. Always interesting to watch, thanks.

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Casey Smyth says:

Under the freeze cycle ive blocked the water flow on the main supply tube going up from the pump. That forces water out of that check valve. If the water stops coming from the drain then i knew there was a sealing issue with that valve

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steven Martinez says:

I had that issue on a system going into a drain bucket with a sump pump. It took a while to figure it out since it was the first time I had that issue and the drain line was sealed to the bucket. If it wasn't for a loud sump pump and another tech telling me what to look for, I probably wouldn't have found it.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul Deeter says:

That was a constant flow going down the drain

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ray Ray says:

I like how you went back to the machine a few days later and cleaned the whole machine. Does the restaurant ever clean their own machines, or no? In a hospital setting they have to clean them every month. Thank you Chris hope you have a good week. If you get a chance post another one this week. Thank you. Service area Barrhaven??
