This was a service call on an evaporator fan motor that wasn't working. I replaced the motor but found that the evaporator coil is rotting away. Its time to replace before this thing starts leaking.

So this one it's a service called simply on a fan. Motor, not working, temperatures aren't even going high, yet they just noticed that a fan motor wasn't working always always always pay attention and look at the big picture. Like I always say this evaporator coil has rotted out, I mean I can just disintegrating so we're gon na recommend replacement, but I'm going to change the fan motor for now. You know when you guys go out to do a service call.

You know a dispatch sends you out, you need to express stuff to people, don't just change a fan, motor and move on. Let them know hey this thing's rotted out get a quote in there for replacement before the thing starts, leaking everywhere and becomes a Friday night service call put the motor out, there's no ice forming, so it's like they caught it just in time. We're looking good. So we're just gon na slap, a new motor in and let it rip and then we'll give them a quote for a new coil.

So that was a little quick one recap: we had a beer walk in the complaint. The customer literally called me and said just one of the fan motors stopped working. That was their complaint. They weren't complaining about temperature issues.

They just wanted to get the fan motor replaced. So I came out there and of course, I'm gon na look at the big picture. Definitely had a bad evaporator fan motor one of the two I replaced the fan motor, but I inspected the evaporator coil and the evaporator coil is really deteriorating really bad. The aluminum fins are just falling off as I excuse-me brush them with my finger, so I'm going to make a recommendation that they replaced that evaporator coil before it becomes a bigger issue.

At the same time, I go up onto the roof after I change the evaporator, coil or evaporator fan motor. I did go on to the roof, made sure that the unit was running and had a clear sight glass. I did not put my service gauges on it because I didn't feel the need to also because I'm going to be recommending that they have grade that he thought pretty cool and replace it. So we'll address everything else then, but I went up there just to inspect so that way I can give all the information to the office.

So we can quote this appropriately what size dryer it needed. I've visually inspected, the compressor. I noticed that the dual pressure control is the style that has rubber hoses coming off of it and, if you guys, don't already know those rubber hoses, they're notorious for leaking. So as part of our replacement of the evaporator coil, we're going to quote to go ahead and replace those hoses on that pressure control.

Also because of that, there's no way if you know how the dual pressure control I'll pop up a picture. So you guys can see it, but there's no way that the dual pressure control can be taken off the system because it connects to the high side without recovering all the gas out of the system. So that needs to be part of our quote too. So again, what I'm getting at is.
Is you always want to look at the big picture? You always want to give the office as much information as possible. So that way we can quote it appropriately. Okay - and this is what I try to talk to my guys about - is you know just looking at the big picture getting me everything that you think I could possibly need and then some so that way, when we quote it, we know exactly what's going on and We know you know what we have to worry about other than that. That's it guys.

All that does is give a bad delta t . when the aluminum rots you get less conduction but it won't make it leak. Anyways if you sell a new one that's a grand profit at least.

May I please ask in what state you operate I live in New Jersey is it possible for you to fix our walking coolers.the reason we put gas once a year every year . Nothing has been changed for example like the oil dryer filter etc.lastly when the weather is warm it doesnโ€™t work properly and when the weather is cool itโ€™s also doesnโ€™t work properly but when the temperature is between 55-77 f it works perfectly. What your advice thanks. Service area Orleans??

Right on, man. All it takes to win a customer over, is a little extra effort to just look at what you're working on. I know! It's crazy! … Good one, bro. Call it out!

Didnโ€™t see you mention that rotted out coils also prevent proper air flow causing lack of performance, possible floodback, an also the dreaded iced up coil. But like most customers if it works I ainโ€™t spending no money on that. Pay me now or pay me later itโ€™s all the same. Have a good one. ๐Ÿ‘

Ever try a sacrificial anode on the coil to slow the rot? Rgf makes some called fin saver.

Great video man. I wish everyone paid attention to detail more often. There would be better techs out.

Good advice man about looking at the big picture. Also I run into a lot of those rotted out coils . I do a lot of produce walkins and they rot out quick. When we replace them we give the customer the option of getting the coated coils for extra protection .
