This was a service call on a walk in cooler that was temping high at 55 degrees. I found that the high pressure control was tripped and we had a bad condenser fan motor. I ended up replacing both condenser fan motors and watched the unit come down to temp.

I guess we've got a walk-in cooler, that's not working correctly. Gina has two evaporator coils, currently 55 degrees in the box, so I'm going to start on the roof. So I came up on the roof found that the condensing units not running, but can you see how half the coils dirty and half of its? Not so this half right here is dirtier. If you look right down the middle there's a line right there.
I bet you anything: we have a bad condenser fan motor. I haven't turned anything on yet I just pulled the cover off come in here and we'll test everything, so this guy has a high pressure control right here: powers on Bing up that condenser fan motor. So it's tripped on high head pressure and you notice that one half of it was cleaned, because this has been running like this for a while half this guy's been working, so this is the dirty side. This is the clean side because it hasn't been running so we're gon na change.
Some fan motors on this guy. This location is kind of out there it's about an hour 15 minutes from our shop and they're about an hour in any direction from a supply house. Because of that, I'm gon na replace both of these fan motors and we're gon na change the blades. We don't need another walk-in cooler service call; they don't want it to fail, so we're gon na change both motors both blades, I'm pretty sure.
I have these blades in my truck because I picked them up on the way here. Thinking that this might be the problem. So we're gon na pull this thing apart and check it out and see if we can't change both these motors okay, so I just powered it on to make sure the rotation was correct and it was you see how I secured my wiring and I wrapped the Schematic so that way, the next guy can figure out how to wire this if he has to these are reversible motors. So everything is all secure, nothing's going to rob nice and secure we're good, so we're pretty much ready to turn it on and then diagnose the rest of the unit.
R22 forty-three back to 66, so we have 121, liquid saturation temperature degree, evaporator, coil temperature right now and, like I said it's it's somewhere in the 40s down there. So it's coming down we're looking good, I'm not seeing anything! That's making me scared. The presser seems to be pumping correctly. We've got a clear sight glass, so I think we're good.
For now, you guys are using a drill prefer to use the drill. I hate using an impact foot panels on because you strip out all the screws, but even on a drill use the clutch. I usually set mine around 10 or 11 that way it doesn't strip out the screw holes. It's annoying when you come out here and all the screw holes are stripped out nothing worse than that, be conscious of what you're doing pay attention think for the next guy all right, so this is going to get them by for now, like I said, the evaporators Are dirty I'll show you right now they're running for now and we'll get someone out here tomorrow, clean them up, so for this one we just had some bad condenser fan motors. So, to recap: we had a service call on a walk-in cooler that was not working. When I arrived, the box was at, like 55 56 degrees, the evaporators were not iced up. I found that the condensing unit on the roof was not running once I pulled the cover off. I found that the high pressure control was tripped and then, when I reset it only one fan motor started back up.
Condenser fan motor. That is, I went ahead and replaced both condenser fan motors and both blades. The other fan motor looked to be in bad shape. It was just as old, and this location is about an hour away from our shop in about an hour from any supply house, so because of that the motors were both the same age, it was time to replace them.
Both this customer appreciates when I do that kind of stuff, because it eliminates any headaches down the line, I'd hate to change that fan motor than three weeks later. We have the other fan when it go bad, get where I'm going with that. So I like to look at the big picture. At the same time since I was looking at the big picture, went downstairs inspected, the evaporator coils found that both of them were very dirty.
One of them is almost completely plugged up, which I showed you in the video. The other ones just got some lint buildup on it. The condensers for the other equipment on the roof are also very dirty, so the walk-in freezer was dirty. The ACS are dirty.
So what I'm gon na do I'm gon na already okayed it with the manager we're going to go ahead and go back. I'm gon na send someone back probably tomorrow and they're gon na clean everything up. Normally, I would take care of that. But today is our first, like I said in the video today is our first little heatwave and I wouldn't even call it a heatwave.
Yet it's only like ninety five here in Southern California, so I got a bunch of calls backing up. In fact, I'm going to do another walk-in cooler right now: beer, walkin so anyways. I got them operational watch. The box, that is the walk-in cooler, come down to 37 degrees.
I'm satisfied with that. We will return and clean everything up.
Great ๐น
nice work sir verygood and smooth finding of cause
If their to evaporators their should be two condensers to acomidate the avaperators
Aren't both motors suppose to be running simultaneously
What did you do with that pressure control to kick the condenser unit on?
Question: when cleaning the fins inside the cooler, do you add any specific chemical or is coil cleaner fine?
The filter drier seems to have frost on it. I think that also needed replacement.
Definitely smart in terms of inspecting the condenser unit on the walk in
Do you recommend a condenser unit bigger than a evaporator coil for a walk in cooler? Have you seen that before? 4hp 34000 btu and a 27000 evaporator coil. Thanks for the video,.
That left fan moter looks bad because it was a sand yellow color and thatโs not good Are you in Orleans ?
Lucky you have customers that would not mind changing an extra part , so the system does not fail again soon… In my experience some customers try to flog a dead horse…
And another point i think i mentioned before ,,,,, R22 is still legal over there ???!!! .. Not in the European Union,, they use alternatives , friendly to the environment ,,,
Nice job Are you in Barrhaven ?
"Think for the next guy" – I love that
Guess those fans have a purpose…
TOM PIPPS . FOAM – BATON ROUGE LOUISIANA USA . HI HELLO . JACK ALL OF TRASD
Some customers cry up to the sky .
One question how much this job .
Cost.trip parts and labor.
Do the blades go bad?? Interesting!
Superheat and subcooling apply for cooling and freezing process could you link me to one of your videos explaining this thanks l like your videos
Why dont you like R22 refrigerant?
I wish all techs was like that, wrapping the schematics to it, schematics are your best friend, know them and love them.
Sounds good to me. Good job.
I canโt understand why someone put dislike on this video because no boobs no girls in this video …..we must like all his video to get more video and education
Enjoyed your video. Please tell me how you thought the problem would be a bad condenser motor before you got to the site? Had you looked at the unit before and somehow thought that one or both of the condenser motors were going to fail? Thanks
Can you say fur coat. Lol
Subbed because i like your work Service area Nepean??
Our company had something similar in the office area AC. The condenser was at ground level near the side entrance, and it seemed that I was the only one to notice that 1 of the 2 fan motors had failed (slowly rotating backwards), and notified maintenance. Happened twice while I was there, both times the other employees did not notice what was going on. I think it was a 10 ton unit.
great video man
Great video! Is this your own company?
Sir, if the compressor is burnout how do you clean the system before installing the new one
Always good to see the big picture when you are there. What brand is that hat you have? Provides pretty good shade
Good technicians always use common sense and you're one of those technician, good job!
Thank you, someone needs to put it out there about the impacts. All you need is a small drill set on the lowest clutch setting. People complain all the time about screw holes stripped especially on goodman but Iโve never had that problem till other people start getting into it…
Good call to change both motors and blades, it will cost less in the long run for the customer to do it that way. Service area Barrhaven??
Great tips! I have a 12 volt Milwaukee two speed hex screw gun that I carry with me in my service bag. Its light compact and plenty powerful the impact stays in the truck for the heavy duty tasks. Love your videos keep them coming! Are you in Nepean ?
Good video.
Likinโ the towel. The motto with screws is โif your gonna drive it, drive it home!โ Lol
only 95 degrees? If its 95 in New York the entire state shutsdown because unit cant handle the heat load
I yell at the new guys all the time when they strip out the screws! Service area Kanata??
Reminds me when I followed you on service calls Are you in Ottawa ?
Great ๐ vid nice work
Fasco 9721โs ?? I use those motors all the time ๐. Good vid !
