Here we had an Iced up walk in cooler evaporator coil, we found that the unit needed a good cleaning and a few evaporator fan motors.

Today's call is on a walk-in cooler, that's a stuff, and it's got a bad fan motor we're gon na start by putting the unit into a off cycle by turning the temp control and we'll adjust it later to let the fans run now that we have the Evaporator coil of defrosted, you could see how bad this coil was. How dirty it was. This thing was caked with grease and build-up, obviously from them, leaving the door open too much. It ended up taking a lot of degreaser and we got it all cleaned up.
Well, it's about as good as we can get it. Unfortunately, it'll make products that have the quality that this coil does. The evaporator coil has lasted many years. Unfortunately, I couldn't sell them something today that would last this long 1993.
He Kraft doesn't make a product that lasts this long anymore, but anyways we're gon na put it back together now and troubleshoot it and figure out why it froze up could have been just because of a dirty evap, but we're gon na double-check everything just to make Sure, okay, so the units running now defrosted, cleaned up everything looks good as far as pressures sightglass is clear: I'll pull up a screenshot here in a minute up the pressures, but we're looking good so far, so we're gon na adjust the temperature controller and make sure It comes down to temperature and we'll see what happens, but more than likely that's gon na, be it the temperature controller, even lips to be pretty accurate, so we're just gon na watch it come down. My assumption is is that this was caused by a dirty evaporator and a bad evaporator fan motor. We ended up changing two motors actually because this one right here was going bad so that one could have been part of the problem too. That's it so, just a little recap: we had a service called a walking cooler that was iced up when we arrived.
It definitely was. I stopped. It was really thick right off the bat we had a bad fan motor. You thought.
Murder fan motor. So what I did was, I had another person there with me. I had him start defrosting the coil. While I wasn't picked up the fan motor and I went ahead and picked up all three fan blades because they were very old and I can see tiny cracks and at the end, two of them we put the DI state and then that coil was actually so Dirty I had to clean it with new bride, condenser coil cleaner.
It was bad. We did three cleanings on it and rinsed it cleaned and rinsed and cleaned and rinsed it. Then we flush the drain really good on those particular jobs who really got to make sure you flush that drain. I bet you anything.
We're still gon na have a call in a couple days that they buy a plugged up drain, because you can never get all that stuff out of those drain pans. It just takes forever on those ceiling mounted coils. They just turn into a disaster, but I digress. We clean the evaporator coil turn the system back on.
I found that a second loader was going bad, so I went and replaced that one too. Luckily, I had it on my truck. So all in total we change to motors and three fan blades check the system out refrigerant pressures. Looked good, temperature controllers seem to be cutting in and out where it should be. I went ahead and took off left the guy that was working with me just to watch the Box come down to temp when I left it was at 40 40 degrees. I think so. I just wanted him to see get down to 37, and that was it. So we're good to go, didn't really find any other things wrong with that you know I take that back.
I did go on the roof and I found that the defrost clock did not have the correct time on it. So what I did was, I just talked to the manager. I know for a fact that they shut the breaker off to the condemned student, quite often whatever they're, not loading or loading, the locking up with a brush delivery. So I went ahead and talked to the manager and told him that I set the correct time on there and just told him to keep an eye on it.
If we have another freeze-up problem, then maybe we'll look at the defrost clock, but I wanted to give it a chance. Basically, just before I sold him a new clock, he was cool with that and that's it. Okay.
Question, I'm in residential and I've been an operator in industrial..
I got a call from a cooling facility about his evaps freezing up when the doors are open. Any ideas?
What brand of sunglasses do u have they look nice and dark Are you in Nepean ?
My norlake will not defrost. The coils are clean. When i melt the ice with a hair dryer it runs great but after a couple days it freezes up again. Why??
i do not like sort vids
oh ya the enter key dos not comment it
WefecdfsEDFEDDXSSDEEDEDDDDDDDDDD Service area Barrhaven??
Cool
"Unfortunately I couldn't sell 'em something today that would last this long." that's planned obsolescence for ya
Just here for the Bluon ad.
Just kidding.
Love the videos and I am not even in the hvac field!
They don't make them like they used to because if they did, they'd go out of business because nothing would break! Are you in Kanata ?
Odd thing with any freezer it seams sometimes one thing can cause the whole system to snow ball,,, was working on a upright freezer for residential use and it was over stuffed with a bag of ice and that was holding the door open a smidge,,that caused a total ice over on the evaporator,,
Let me ask you something , why don't these walk-in refrigerator or freezers have air filters on Evap?
Sounds about right, everything these days is made to break at a certain point normally a few months after the warranty is out.
All those beeds of water on the ceiling that kitchen must be a steaming greasy pit.
Foollow up, Qs…. Did you end up changing that clock, my money is on yes. Wasn't there a union just off the pan to short cut into a bucket?
I just worked on one of those, it was 1979
Always hate those inside out pancake evaps but so definitely true they do not make them like they used to but man they are a pain in the ass to work on / clean
amazing videos, I watch one everyday to learn something new from you. Thank you from Toronto Canada UA local 787
I like the shows this could be my next job. been a cable tech. 34 years so far, moving forward .
I have learned that a coil cleaning needs to be an every two year maintenance I places like such
I hate frozen freezer evaporators. You have to get rid of all the ice on top. Then scrape all the ice that formed on the floor from the water you used to defrost the evaps. Service area Orleans??
Cut drain. Drop pan. Shark bite drain line back together.
I had one a couple weeks ago that was way worse than that. Same evaporator. Motors were burnt out too Service area Ottawa??
Does anybody make coil that lasts this long?
Good video man. Those restaurant frozen up coils are always fun. Hahaha. Always filthy
how long did it take you n help to get it all done ,helps in quoting jobs like that Thanks! and did you wear a rain jacket or some cover all to avoid them acids drips and wash water i bet that water and stuff stank off whatever they stored in there, we did a old restaurant same kinda coils lo profiles,Phew the stuff and water got splashed onto our clothes thru the rain jackets we stank like smelly old stale garlic, ginger and all kinda flipping sauces they must have stored in there it was a nasty experience all the way back home Nice Vid Thanks for sharing👍👍😎
Nice job man
How bout those FP probes?
Thinking about getting some .
Great job !
nice work, just about like everything that is made nowadays dont last. I guess its more profitable to sell new units
Nice work! Good video.
5-7 years is all I get out of them now. On average.
Those Bohn Sizemizer ceiling units were tanks. The coils always plugged up from the inside. Thanks for posting the video.
what coil cleaner id you use on this hob
