In this video I give a few tips on cleaning a lennox condenser coil, but the tips in this video apply to all condensers. After cleaning the condenser I found out a major problem with the unit, it had a bad compressor. So I finshed up and submitted a quote to the powers that be and they approved it, video coming soon.

We're gon na clean the condenser on this. This is pretty simple, but you know I just want to kind of point this out. This condenser is a two-sided condenser. It's a triangle shaped with slab coils.
You see, there's condenser inside there too. They do come with a coil cleaning door that coil cleaning door is useless. There is no point in using it because you will fight and spend more time cleaning this condenser. If you try to do it through that coil cleaning door, there's about 20 screws.
This triangle shape panel, comes right off when you get perfect access to that coil, easy peasy, it's about, like I said 20 or something screws, that's for one panel right there. They just bust right off nothing, fancy we could get in there and clean that thing properly. From the inside out that way, we can wash the lint and the dust out the weight. You know the the natural way that it'll fall out, not too difficult, but you know it's one of those things I'll be honest with you.
It took me a while to realize that I used to try to clean it through those coil access doors and it was miserable and then one day I just kind of thought: hey, stop being stupid. Take this panel off this works on their newer units to the newer units actually come in two pieces. There's a slit right down the middle. You can take off one half the other half it's actually easier.
So I'm using a spray pattern on this guy and I'm not even that far away and look at how well it's draining out. This is the front side of the coil, the one that's easy to clean, see it's draining out pretty. Well, I mean, for the most part right, it's pretty good and that's just spraying it from about that far away. If I go to this side, which is the hardest side to clean, because it's tucked in this corner, not even getting anything sprained out, so you know really got to take our time and be thorough with these things.
This particular restaurant uses coil cleaning company to come through. They don't know what the hell they're doing and the second thing is they end up beating the crap out of that coil. It's all flattened out bad because they're just using a normal spray nozzle and end up ruining it. So we're gon na go ahead and clean this one with acid.
Don't already know, new Calgon actually sells this wand and it attaches to your coil gun and it allows you to get into that condenser deep down inside and spray the coil cleaner in there. So you don't have to fight trying to get that giant gun inside there. If you guys haven't tried them out they're worth it, I but yeah they're great little gun and you can actually adjust the spray pattern to on the end of the wand. There's like a little set screw.
You can tighten it loosen it to adjust the spray pattern, but definitely worth it if you haven't already pick up the Calgon coil gun and the wand for it and you'll be good to go stream with the coil cleaner, because this one's really dirty okay, but I Sprayed from the inside out, okay and the foam is coming all the way through. You want to make sure that you're spraying in the direction the opposite direction in which the crap came through. So that way, you can push it out the easiest way, trying to wash a coil, it's kind of defeating them. You know it's difficult when you try to wash it this way because you're just blowing the back into the coil, so all that foam you see is because I sprayed on the inside out okay, another thing about Calgon coil cleaner: it is an etching coil cleaner. So it is going to eat the top layer of the aluminum. If you leave it on there long enough, this stuff does have coil brightener in it. All that that crap is is just you know, it's just an acid. Basically that eats away the coil.
I don't care if this coil is shiny. All that I care is that the stuff is out in the middle of the coil. Don't use this stuff to try to make it all shiny, because when you're making it all shiny, you're just eating the top layer, the aluminum off okay, so you know again, the purpose of this stuff is not to make it shiny. The purpose is to go all the way through the coil push out the other stuff and then rinse it with water.
So now I'm going to take my angle that I showed you in the beginning with water and I'm gon na wash everything from the inside out nice and good and again, if there's a couple dark spots on the quota, that's not a big deal just so long As the water is going through the coil properly, when I'm all finished up, I went ahead and did the other side. I also like to rinse all the stuff that I washed off the coil out of the area that way just doesn't dry up and suck right back up on the coil. It's the little things that make you a good tech make the customer. Like you more.
You know, because you come out and clean the condenser wash all the stuff away, and you necessarily don't have to come back so soon. So this sides definitely a little bit easier to clean because it doesn't have the refrigeration lines on it. Yeah, it's all nice and pretty and remember, like I said I don't care that I still see some brown marks on the coil so long as I'm getting water washing through. That's all that matters to me.
Okay, so don't spend so much time trying to make it shiny as much as making sure that it's clean because remember when you're making it shiny the brightener they have in that quarter. That coil, cleaner is actually etching the coil away, and you know so many times and that's going to be a problem. You also want to make sure you rinse it off as quick as possible. So that way you don't leave it on too long.
So I'm all finished up. I did my best. I mean I didn't scrub the ground, but I did my best to clean up, there's still a little bit of stuff, but you know you can only do so much now. Here's the deal I was here today on their dining room AC.
The complaint was that AC wasn't working when I got here it actually had a bad thermostat, but I went ahead and looked beyond the thermostat checked out. The AC found that the AC was actually working. Great analyze, the system, all four stages - bitching, no problems. Okay, while I was here, I noticed that their kitchen AC had lint all over the condenser, so I ran it up. The chain of command made sure that they wanted me to go ahead and clean that unit up. They did. I went ahead and cleaned it after I cleaned it started the unit up tested. All the condenser fan motors found a couple other things there's some outside air filters missing, but I noticed something as I was leaving, because I wasn't here for this AC.
I did engage up on everything, but I noticed as I was leaving, because I always open the ACS up to make sure I didn't unhook anything make sure I put everything back on. I noticed the third stage compressor on this one wasn't running tested. It actually found out that we had a bad compressor. It is very important that we're thorough with these restaurants now three stages.
They weren't even asking me about their kitchen. Hd they'd be fine right now, because it's only about 8590 degrees, but once you know about two months a month and a half when we hit about a hundred hundred and ten out here, nothing's gon na fall off the map and just because I'm cursed, it would Come to me on a Saturday afternoon, if I'm thorough now and go through everything, I can catch. That compressor like I did before it becomes a Saturday afternoon, service call and ruins my day. So I like to, while I'm up here looking at that dining a/c, I open up the kitchen AC, look at the codes and that won't open up their bar ec look at the codes and that one I'm not spending hours because they didn't ask me to I'm Spending about 10 minutes on each a/c, just troubleshooting real quick.
You know I found a dirty condenser. That was some more work justifiable found a bad compressor, hey, there's some more work. I'm gon na quote that alright, so we tend to get in a hurry. We tend to want to get home because we have plans or whatever, but you got to remember when we're here to work on something we need to finish it.
We need to be thorough if we can't finish it. We need to let the office know that hey I'm not done with that unit. I need some more time yeah. You may get some bitching and stuff like that, because all you need to finish it up.
We have other calls for you, that's fine, but so long as you let the office know that you would like to spend more time on that. You need to be upfront also the whole time I was here, I'm communicating with the general manager on site, letting her know. Hey here's the deal. I found this I'm gon na.
Look at this. Oh. Thank you very much very happy about me. Taking the time to look at everything, okay, so bottom line, let's be thorough, let's make sure that, were you know, completing the job. Let's make sure that we're looking at everything number one rule whenever you leave a job site, triple tech, that you turned everything back on, there is nothing worse, nothing worse than a service call. It's not working right after you worked on it and either yourself or another tech has to go out there and turn a switch on. It is completely unacceptable, make sure double -- triple-check that you're turning everything back on guys. That's it for today, we'll submit quotes to change that compressor other than that we're good to go.
You.
You sir have very awesome work ethic. Keep it up
What are those clear domes on the roof?
Do you ever cover the fan motors to prevent water ingress? Thanks for the tip on the panel! working through that little hole is a PITA
We need quality techs in Texas if you're interested. In particular Austin,San Antonio area if interested. 100% commercial
Thanks Brother!
Looks like a waste of to me. There’s no reason to use any type of chemical on a Lennox V Coil Condenser. The coil is super thin compared to other HVAC Condensers.
The the best product to use is called "Inside Out" from Chemsearch FE. Low odor Non-Acid cleaner, that works like a charm. Just rinse as you should with any other. Service area Orleans??
you have the best work ethic! fine example !
Where can I get that spray nozzle? Just the water spray nozzle not the coil cleaner wand.
Nice!
Great Video! What kind of spray nozzle were you using in the beginning?
I definitely like the idea of taking the side off. I do it on the York Predator models as well.
The BEST advice I can give you for using a cleaner like Nu-Brite is to RINSE and RINSE, and RINSE…until you are sure you have overdone it by five minutes…and that is the right amount of rinsing. There should be NO bubbles in the water coming off the coil. That is when it is really rinsed.
You said you would be using acid cleaner. Nu Brite is alkali, not acid. Just an FYI.
I’ll have to use that tip next time a take one apart
Nice! You're a good teacher. Keep em comin
Attention to detail…preventative maintenance…what a novel idea…love it. Service area Ottawa??
Excellent tips & commentary. You should be commended for performing as if this was your own company! Are you in Kanata ?
I’m in Chicagoland area. Company I work for is waiting till next month cuz of cottonwood. Those hot days we were running around from location to location everything off on high press. Im not crazy about those prodigy boards.
We do a lot of those Lennox. That tip about removing the side cover! You’re a Genius my friend. You deserve a raise 🤙🏽
What is your opinion on using pressure washers on condenser coils?
Great job Bro. Didn't catch your first name. Loving you channel so far . keep up the great work .
Nice video. I've been using the N.C. coil gun for awhile now. Might have to pick up the wand.
The forgotten breaker reset 😩
I wanted to clap at the end of this video Service area Barrhaven??
Great job !! Love your videos
Great stuff! Got some York Predators shaped the same way. Are you by chance in Phoenix area
Good video. Th coil gun is so under rated. Once you use one it would be all you use. I use the coil gun also. I have been wanting the wand extension. Does the wand spray softly? Or does it spray strong through a thin coil. I never seen the wand in action.
Holy shit you should run an HVAC BOOTCAMP!!
Not about how shiny. Were not eating off it. Glad you agree
So what you’re saying is “Don’t be a gas and go hack”? There are a lot of good technicians and mechanics in this trade, it’s good to see that you take pride in your workmanship.
Shit yeah man
Good advice. I got 8 hours today on a Saturday just because people not double checking their work before they leave. And I wasn’t even on call, volunteered because he got swamped lol.
Nice vid! check me out man I try to make some vids too Are you in Nepean ?
Well done! Great tips👍
Didn’t ever think about pulling the whole side off. Very nice!
Excellent video! Are you in Orleans ?
Excellent,as usual.
But did you trim off those flying wire ties, my ocd kicks in with those.
I would like to add another comment to this video for the technician to check for before he leaves & that is trash. I work in facilities maintenance at a hospital. Sometimes we have to call an outside HVAC contractor for issues that may be beyond my skill level or abilities. There is nothing more frustrating to me when I find empty refrigerant drums, parts boxes, broken drive belts, cigarette butts, empty soda cans & sometimes bundles of old wires & discarded wire nuts in the cabinet of a unit. Sharp pieces of metal or metal shavings left on a roof is also not the mark of a professional. If you are charging the customer $90 an hour for labor have consideration for their property & haul away your trash! Sorry for the rant but I really wanted to mention it. Another super video by the way! Question: What ratio do you use to mix your coil cleaner? I used Nu-brite to wash some nasty coils at work & it did a great job. I also make sure to thoroughly wash away the coil cleaner to prevent erosion of the coil like you mentioned in your video. Are you in Barrhaven ?
great tips again!!!
