Back at this job, where I had to change that compressor overnight breasts are still running good they're happy with the freezer. When I left it, I left it with the covers off this wrap, because I was just reluctant to think to just cleaning the screen on that swamp. Cooler was enough, so I came back today to rebuild the swamp cooler we're gon na put new pads on it. A new water pump, possibly a new flow and we'll see what else we need on it very carefully.

I left the panel's over here and I put cinder blocks on them because they get really windy here like right. Now it's blowing like crazy, so we're gon na get this swamp. Cooler turned off and taken apart. Panels pulled off these panels, God they must wait.

35 pounds each they're insanely plugged up with calcium, the media pad is just saturated with calcium they're, so heavy it's just a little itty bitty swamp, pool or nothing fancy, but it really serves a major purpose. Had it pulled the pump and the motor off, it was really easy, just a cradle mount for the motor and the pumps. A couple screws that way I could just blast the whole swamp cooler down rinse the top the insides take the hose to the distribution hose blast it up into it. That way, I made sure everything's clear, coming out to spray tubes and I'll just get my shot back: real, quick and vacuum up.

What won't come out of the bottom? There I'm gon na oil up these bearings, really good and I'm gon na see. If I can source a three-quarter horsepower motor. I thought it was a third horse, but it's not so I'll see. If I can find one out here, I got a new pump put in the cords, nice and secured and no way is it going to hit the belt.

I got a new temperature controller put in motor put in drained and clean the cooler. I need to change the float and I'm going to change these pads now these pads, they can be a pain in the ass to change. One thing I like to do is go around and use just something simple and hit them breaks. A lot of the calcium free makes it a little bit easier, so I'm gon na go about getting these all replaced and those things are plugged solid man, surprise actually came out as one piece on each of them covers better for the newer guys.

If you don't already know this, when you're putting these pads in, you have to make sure you tuck it under this bottom section right here. This there's like a lip where the water drains down into the pads got ta, make sure you get the pad underneath that for it to work properly for us, so just trip in front of hats and drift out of the cooler with water adjusted the float. I, like put it in the adjustable, floats they're a little bit better than the non adjustable, because you can set them where you want them on the non adjustables. You have to bend them to set them where you want them, keep in mind to these swamp coolers.

Never come out perfect, there's still some debris in there. It's just a swamp cooler as long as you got a screen on your pump should work good new pads, I'm gon na put them on so everything's all up and running now. All I have to do is put the panel's back on this rack. The best TD I could get on the swamp.
Cooler was about 15 degrees. I could get more if I slowed down the motor, but I kind of need the CFM's to move the air out of the rack, so we'll sacrifice a little bit of a TD first Americo to get all that stuff out of that rack. So that's it! So I'm gon na put the panel's back on and we're all finished up. I am to the motor run.

Load is 10.8 and I'm running right at 10. Amps 10.1. Something like that and then, when I turn the water pump on, I run about an extra hamp. 11.2 or something like that, so but it's running good everything else is cool everything's.

Looking good inside the rack, that's it can tell that everything is working like it should be, because the damn doors are pressurized from all the air. The louvers are pushing out. There's damp warm air coming out, so we're absorbing Heat. The next thing I need to do is talk of into getting new panels for this thing, because these things just lost all their integrity and they're like a nightmare to put on you, have to put screws and all of them they're, barely hanging on same thing.

On this side, you can see they've lost so much integrity that they're flexing the only thing holding them on is the screws around the top, but everything's good. You know on these swamp. Coolers, too, you really got to make sure that these doors get in right, because if they don't this bottom, lip right here won't sit down all the way in no leak everywhere. So this one's looking good, all of them are looking good.

I helped my dad work on our swamp cooler when I lived in north Texas back in the mid 80's. It was mounted on the roof of the house, but we had to climb up there to clean the drain pan, the mats (bad calcium build up too) and make sure no wasps nests were in them. I hated doing it back then, but I appreciate the memories now.

Hi there, I'm just curious. Wouldn't it be better off by just completely taking the panel of the rack for both the front and back for full air circulation. Once removed all the panels in front and back, may I ask can we remove the swamp cooler for the picture as well? Thanks for answering and good luck in making more videos

Hello, where do you find those pads? Oddly enough I’ve struggled finding those pads. I have had to use the blue media filters from RSD but would prefer to use those pads.
    Thanks in advance.

Looks to me like an incoming water filter would be a good suggestion to slow the pads on the cooler turning into that calcium plating you removed….pads would last longer & it would make the PM faster at the very least… Are you in Nepean ?

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joe Billard says:

looks like Palm Srpings. I recently been using a swamp cooler for my house. It is colder when the fan speed is low but warmer when fan speed it high. Is this normal? will a lower speed cool down my house more?

I put the whole freezer inside my swamp cooler,It worked very well and now I'm freezing to death inside my home

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joel Saenz says:

Good video. Just wanted to say that a purge pump would be a really good idea for that cooler given the amount of time it runs. But I see you have a filter so that helps. Also when you amp the motor all the panels should be on the box so you amp it with the correct back pressure. Thanks for the vid keep them coming. Hopefully we’ll se some more swamp coolers.

We didn't have refrigerated air conditioning at home when I was growing up, but we did have swamp coolers. We replaced the pads every year, and you just can't beat the smell of fresh Excelsior the first time it gets wet.

That looks like a really nice location in the background, I'm guessing somewhere in California? I'd love to do some service up on that roof and admire the view. I'm from Norway and we never use swamp coolers due to our climate, and we don't have any locations like these.

When you understand the principles of machinery it what the machines are supposed to do there's a maintenance schedule that goes along with it if the material and machines aren't maintenanced properly then you'll have problems which are described here in his video . It all comes out perfect now but if you proofread it and you press send it all comes out like incoherent psychobabble and garbage make you look like a f**** idiot this is exactly what AI is and new New World Order wants for your s*** battle your ass off and come out perfect if you speak anything is continent continents in and explainable and intelligent will come out like the beautiful miss Spelling's and all sorts of other crap and psychobabble

What do you do to prevent Legionella bacteria from building up

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Prjndigo says:

You could maybe increase the exhaust vent to the size of the input opening, considering heat expansion from all the condenser maybe add an inch in both directions.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tanner Borden says:

Nice video. Up here in northern canada. Never seen a swamp cooler, was really interesting to see. I guess in the warmer climates you can really take advantage of using water to remove latent heat on smaller equipment. Looks like a mini cooling tower!

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars FreeQuest says:

Is a swamp cooler the same as an Evaporative Cooler or is it called that because it's mostly used in swamps?

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Marvin Garcia says:

Woaw. I never seen a swamp cooler b4. I watch the both videos of when u diagnose the bad compressor and tbis one because of the swamp cooler. I live in Baltimore and it gets hot over here but not where we need to help the the rejected heat get out of the racks. But very cool solution. Great job Service area Ottawa??

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jamie Woodward says:

Engineer here from oxford england, interesting to see hoe much different youre systems are to ours in england, everything seems to be similar but different lol, example youre control circuits e.g. pressure switchs seem to activate compressor when the switchs are broken? We do the opposite here. Also a lot of youre equipment over the pond seems to be from ou POV outdated in a way. We hardly see mechanical control systems. E.g. defrost time clocks. Also these racks you have we dont really have. We have single housed condensing units. I know we mostly have the cooler weather but in plant areas in summer we still get up to 45c and they work fine. Intersting you have to have these so called swamp coolers… also cellar systems, we have much simpler versions which cools only the room down to 13c and then the beer through the lines is chilled by a seperate system. Its all quite different! Although obviously recognise the brands such as copeland etc. Also have the same leak detector haha! Good vids very interesting to see the differences Are you in Kanata ?

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars realvanman1 says:

You would think each of those condenser fans would draw air from inside the cabinet, blow it over the condenser, then exhaust directly outside, rather than right back into the cabinet.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Moon Moon says:

Wow, are those swamp coolers a common thing? I’m definitely not a fridgie, but that looks like a real quarter arsed way to cool a rack. I wonder if using a box air con or something would do any better. Here in Australia, you are box (or split!) air cons absolutely *everywhere*. If it’s railway track electronics, a telephone exchange, a cell tower, microwave relay. whatever it is, it’ll have some form of air con tacked onto the side of it. If it is an enclosed box with a lot of heat inside it, it’ll have an air con.

Inside datacenters is a very different thing, though. It’s actually pretty damn ingenious as to how they work. You have a massive chiller on the roof, and usually water as the coolant. In the datacenter itself, you have a hot and cold aisle. The cold aisle is what all of the servers are pulling air from, and the hot aisle is what they’re all exhausting into, because in servers. All fans point in only one direction, from front to back. This also means that all of the cables and crap that obstruct airflow, are in the hot aisle anyway and are of no real consequence. I’m sure you’ve done jobs on these systems before, but they’re basically hotel air conditioning on steroids.

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Vann Berg HVAC says:

My plan in life was to do just HVAC, but after watching your videos I think I wanna do HVAC/R. Do you service the Sunnyvale, California area? My cousins live there and are thinking about getting a HVAC system for there house sometime.

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars austin jay says:

Nice title I’m currently shit watching this so it maade me grin

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ray G says:

I can see a possible reason for the bowed side panels and high fan motor amps, you have about 27 sq feet of inlet pad, and about 2 sq feet (I'm metric so cut me some slack if my conversion is wrong) of exhaust grill, the blower fan is running against a high head of air, the cooler would perform much better with some more exhaust air flow vents, this would lower the humidity in your rack as well . Swampies are big business in parts of Australia with our high temps and very low humidity. For domestic installs they try for roughly similar sq. ft of air exhaust openings and cooling media pad size..

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars The Fan Universe says:

As far as i know, swamp coolers blow out tons of humidity. Does all that humid air make any damage to the condensing units? Are you in Orleans ?

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars david1700000 says:
