The water will free up effective chlorine and eliminate the smell two shock, your pool when you open it. This will help kill algae that has developed. While it was closed balance your water first adjusting things like ph and alkalinity, then we recommend using a double shock, which is twice the normal amount of shock to give your pool an initial bacteria. You are awesome. I am learning so much about how to care for my pool through you. This is my first pool so thanks and keep โem coming. Are you in Ottawa ?
Should I take my chlorine tablet dispenser out of my pool when shocking my pool?
Seems to me that if free chlorine is at adequate levels for the situation (stabilizer level, bather load, ph, weather, debris, etc) at all times, there would be NO NEED TO SHOCK THE POOL EVER…and WEEKLY SHOCKING would be a WASTE of time and money. Maybe that shock weekly advice is to make up for general sloppy pool keeping?
First off I am extremely great full for your videos. We bought a house last year and it came with a pool, so after watching your videos I felt fairly comfortable with the idea of pool ownership. Fast forward to today. I shocked my pool two nights ago and added stabilizer because our levels were lower than the recommended level. I expected yesterday to find the pool high in chlorine and a higher level of stabilizer. What I found though was that our chlorine levels, according to the test strips, near zero and stabilizer was almost non existent. I broke out the chemical test kit and checked everything that way. Alkalinity and PH are in normal levels but the chlorine, free chlorine, and stabilizer seemed to be near zero??? Iโm so confused. I even checked to make sure that we had chlorine tablets in our Nature2 pod and sure enough we do. Oh and also now the pool is also ever so slightly cloudy. I did add clearifier to help with that but to no avail. Did our chlorine magically evaporate in less than a day? I was curious and did test our test strips by getting them wet and waving them in the chlorine tablet bucket. They almost instantly turned purple on the chlorine square so I know they are โworking.โ Any helpful suggestions here would be great!! Is it possible our stabilizer is way off the charts and just blowing our test strips and chemical test kit away??
Joe. You were voted in to cancel the key stone pipeline,ย print money, hight taxes . You called to surge the border,ย high gas prices. Keep your promises. Leave Cuba alone, troops out of Afghanistan..
What about us that use a salt water generator?
Can you recommend an all around good pool testing kit? Maybe something a little better than those strips? Thanks!!
In the process of learning pool care because getting an Intex here very soon. It's just a small pool, 12' x 30in. Still researching so any info would help. My understanding is if using non chlorine shock, you need the chlorine tablets but what about if using chlorine shock, would I still need to use chlorine tablets?
New pool owner once I fill my pool do I shock it ?????
Also Iโm going to be using chlorine tablets in a floater adding weekly do I still shock ??? If so do I use non chlorine shock or with??
Do you have to shock your pool if itโs brand new Are you in Kanata ?
Do I turn off the chlorinator after adding shock to the pool?
Question, other than getting into the whole chlorine thing shock vs liquid etc… An above ground pool 24×48 13.5k gallons of water. Ok, what bag of shock, I use this word loosely…lol. but 1 is say 68% 1 us 73% at pool store, what is best bag for weekly maintenance, simple.
I've done pools for 23 yrs. And I've had health issues, but instead of ripping off customers, you have a start up. Shock it
Say add 2 to 3 bags once full , when really bad algae, works great. Now your algae is vacuumed out on waste, your ph is a nice 7.4, your alkaline is good enough and calcium hardness is a bit low, overall, your pool is good, looks good, but what % is chlorine bags best for the weekly shock. HTH, SUPER SHOCK IT 73% or 63%
And why is this pool store telling me, other than liability, to never ever mix chlorine in a pickle bucket and walk around the pool. He says throw it in. Which I've done also. They want your money bottom line. I should have my son open my store, But never put chlorine in your skimmer?? Really. I've done this, very slowly before and I've never had an issue with pump or anything to do with filtration system. Just do it very slowly.
(At own risk) it's worked great for me. Which bag is best.
Sorry so long and confusing AF, just tired. Sick of pool people telling me, who know me, to do it this way with this 1lb shock bag. Hell, it's the same bag as when I opened the pool. That's just wrong.
I just wanna throw in a bag of shock. No PhD needed, just an answer for best bag, 63% or a 78%
I'd say 63% weekly, and ph n alkaline is fine. Dam I'm tired, I've confused myself….lol
Sorry bout this
I'll get my act together and ask a proper question everyone has been asking me for 2 summers now, bein I've moved.
Enjoy the summer and be safe
I can't find chlorine tablets anywhere!! But shock is readily available (and not at a sky high price either). Possible to just add less pool shock granules on a daily basis rather than a floating chlorine tablet holder? Any advice in this regard? Service area Kanata??
how much (ppm) of chlorine normally…. and how much when shocking?
โฆ..but if I shock every week it can take 3 days to burn off the chlorine?
What is the difference between regular chlorine and pool shock?! Is a pool shock simply a lot of regular chlorine?
i bought an ozone pool with a hayward cl200 chlorinator , was told my free chlorine levels should be at .5 ppm ? i have slim developing on sides and bottom should i shock it? also is there a video or tutoral on how to operate my pool thanks
I bought XtraBlue Algaecide 40 oz. Algae Prevention and Algaecide and Xtra shock. Can I put them both in at the same time
So should I not shock if ph and alkalinity are off?
Do I shock a new above ground pool water before swimming?
Smart man. Knows how to market his craft. I like this guy.
In general, can I use sodium hypochlorite as a shock if I normally use muriatic acid to reduce pH? I know they should never be mixed together or added at the same time.. but I want to know if I'll have any issues long term by using them in my pool. Your videos are great very helpful
I have to totally call this a lie.
1. I have a 10k gallon pool in Florida.
2. I take my water sample to Pinch a Penny.
Free analysis. I get a report showing me everything.
90% of the time they have me add 1 gallon of liquid chlorine. 8$ a gallon.
My pool is always clean, and I scrub walls once a week.
My last pool guy charged me 150$ every 6 months to Shock my pool.
So if a year later a professional analysis every week says spend 8$ to correct my Pool Chemistry, why would I spend 160$ a month to buy pool shock. Amazon, 38&. This guy is part of the evil Pool guys who mislead the home owner who knows nothing about pools.
My last pool guy charged me 85$ a month. Via Pinch a Penny I spend 50$ or less doing it myself.
Get a vacuum, I love my Zodiac, brush your pool weekly, 10 minutes. Clean your pool filter monthly and your pool will be great.
Now you know.
In western ny shocking weekly would be insane lol
I'm shocked that I found this information
It really bothers me when all pool guys mentioned pH and alkalinity as two different things. Even the test strips have a pH gradient and an alkalinity gradient. Last I knew from college pH is how you measure acidity or alkalinity. Then why do pool people talk about this as if they are two different things?
Hi I have a small pool 12x 10 I just filled it with clean water should I shock it I also bought the clear balance. Iโm so lost
How to shock your pool? 1. walk up to it. 2. Go BOOOO! 3. done ๐
I used a 54% chlorine shock is that ok? do you just use more?
Hi, newbie pool owner here. I have a saltwater pool, should I still shock it weekly?
just got the intex above ground pool which is better liquid or powder shock? Are you in Barrhaven ?
I have an in-ground salt water pool, and I know that the iChlor system will produce chlorine on it's own through electrolysis so I should not need to add chlorine to the pool. However, in the winter the water gets too cold for the iChlor to work. Is it recommended to shock the pool regularly with chlorinated shock during the winter months? I watched my pool go from crystal clear to dark green in the matter of a few days as soon as the indicator light on the iChlor that it was no longer producing chlorine. Are you in Orleans ?
Been checking out all your videos, very helpful and informative.
Thank you. Also enjoy your humor and presentation.
Love your videos! First time pool owner here.. Would you recommend using a chlorine free sun shock (copper rod) instead of "chlorine shock"?
Hello Matt I been watching your vids , now since I purchased my pool so can you please make a informative VIDEO ,on how to actually to shock out the COMBINED CHLORINE not 1 video on YouTube you will be the ONLY 1 each step after you get your FC, TC, & then CC , how to find out on how much shock you actually need to RID THE CC, I hope you read this thanks.
I made a mistake and put a cup of hth and the green turned brown.
Could anyone know how I can fix this? Service area Nepean??
Will this work on a above ground pool it's a 18 x 4.9 inch swimming pool above ground
How does shock and keeping your pool clean videos apply to a pool with Perma salt system?
My chlorine is really high now after shocking is there a way to bring it down so family can swim in it?
Hi thanks for the video, if my shock tablets is chlorine free, do I put chlorine straight away after I shock it or leave it for 8 hours ?
Do I leave the chorine tabs in the chorinator while shocking??
If i shock once a week do i still need to add chlorine tablets Service area Orleans??
Someone told me a photometer also measures total chlorine which test strips cannot do. If your total chlorine is high, then your free chlorine cant work and means your pool is full of dead chlorine. So are they saying the test strips are useless because you canโt test total chlorine?
I always thought that as long as test strips says your free chlorine is at 3ppm then that means itโs above total chlorine and everything is ok?
OR.. Is it in fact possible for the test strips to read ok at 3ppm free chlorine but total chlorine can still be higher rendering the 3ppm free chlorine useless?
