Does the temperature in your pool really matter in a word? Yes, in two words hell, yes, I mean, if you jump into a cold pool in the middle of the summer, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about aside from the nasty intense body temperature change that you will experience, there are actually some people who are at risk At certain pool temperatures and certain temperatures of your pool, water can put you at risk for bacteria and algae growth, and that's not great. So what is the perfect temperature for your swimming pool? All right, quick disclaimer when it comes to pool care everyone's got a different way of doing it, including us, but at the end of the day, we just want to help you take care of your pool. The following information is based on my experience in the pool industry plus the research that we've done here at swim University and, if I missed anything, please leave a comment below just to. Let me know: hey that rhymes, okay, the most common water temperature for residential pools, is between 78 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit and that's 26 to 28 degrees, for you Celsius fans out there now, depending on who is swimming in your pool, you may need to take in Some considerations, kids, for example, are vulnerable to extreme temperatures, and so, therefore, we recommend that you keep your pool at 84 degrees, Fahrenheit and it's 29 degrees Celsius.
If you have a lot of kids swimming in your pool, the same thing goes for seniors, not high school seniors like senior citizens, especially senior citizens who have arthritis. You don't want to keep a cold pool. You want to keep your pool between 84 and 90 degrees. Fahrenheit that's 29 and 32 degrees Celsius.
Now, what about for just people who are not kids, people who are not senior citizens? Where do you keep your pool? Temperature? Well, like I said in the beginning, between 78 and 82 degrees, Fahrenheit 26 to 28 degrees Celsius. That is where you should keep your pool temperature. Remember. If we're gon na be dealing with senior citizens, are we gon na be dealing with kids or you want to just swim in a really nicely warmed pool? There are some risk factors and I say that we there are so with a warmer pool.
You are at risk for bacteria, because bacteria loves the thrive in warm water and so does algae. So, just remember that if you're gon na keep your pool slightly warm or for having a really warm summer, you want to make sure that you have your pH and alkalinity and calcium all in check. And you want to make sure that the chlorine is or whatever sanitizer you use is in check, meaning it's at the proper range. Also, if you have a chlorine pool, you may want to shock it more often.
We recommend people shock every week to two weeks and if you're gon na be keeping your pool warm, you may want to shock it every week as an insurance policy. How do you know if your pool temperature is accurate? How do you know it's at that perfect 80 degrees Fahrenheit that perfect 27 degrees Celsius? How do you know well, if you have a pool, heater and good for you, then you can actually use the thermostat built into your pool heater to measure the degrees of your pool water. But even if you have that or don't have that, I recommend getting a standard pool thermometer. There are three different types of pool thermometers. You can get the first. One is an analogue one, we're talking old-school, but they make digital ones. That's the one. I totally recommend because they tend to be the most accurate and they'll.
Give you the exact number. You don't use your eyes. It'll. Just tell you it's kind of like a digital clock.
It'll just tell you what time it is and then, finally you could get yourself an infrared thermometer and you know those are cool. So even if you have a thermostat and your heater, I recommend getting an additional way to measure the temperature of your pool. That way, you know you're being accurate, so in order to control the temperature of your pool, if you have a pool heater and again good for you, then it's pretty easy to control, use the thermostat on your heater. You dial it to what you want.
It heats your pool boom, you know what you got to do, but you want to make sure that the thermostat in your heater is accurate, which is why we recommend getting an additional thermometer that you can put in the pool to make sure that it is accurate And you want to make sure that it's calibrated to the correct temperature. The other thing you want to do is, if you do have a pool heater, you want to make sure it's properly maintained, because an old pool heater can start to go and can start to. You know not work as well as a brand new eater, and so you're gon na be wasting a lot of money and energy and just make sure you're on top of it. A good way to be on top of it is obviously get it maintenance as much as you can and make sure your pH and alkalinity and calcium hardness levels are in check, because anything, that's high in calcium or high in pH na Kalindi can cause scaling inside Your filter, which will make it work much harder and waste a lot of money and energy.
Alright, so for those of you out there with a pool heater - and you want to save some money, you want to save some energy. I recommend also getting a solar pool cover a liquid solar cover, a solar ring, a solar blanket whatever, whatever one you want to get over here, we have an entire video on it and if you have a pool heater, you can add on the cover and that'll Help retain that heat, it's kind of like you know you hit up your coffee and you put it in a thermos. The solar cover is kind of like the thermos, with a lid on it. Some other ways you can save on energy and cost is don't heat.
Your pool up, I know that sounds like well. What the hell is this about? It's about temperature, if the, if it's hot out that's gon na heat, your pool, naturally by the Sun and you can use a solar cover, you can use the solar rings or a liquid solar, blanket. That's gon na heat, your pool and you don't really need to be running your your gas pool heater or your electric pool heater during those times when the pool is being heated naturally by the Sun. Another trick you can do is use your solar cover at night. At night is when you lose the most heat in order to control that heat in your pool, use a solar cover or the liquid solar blanket or some solar rings at night to stop the water from evaporating, which will cause heat loss. Okay. So, to recap, the perfect pool temperature. There is no such thing as the perfect pool temperature.
However, the ideal pool temperature is between 78 and 82 degrees, Fahrenheit, that's 26 to 28 degrees Celsius. And if you are dealing with children or seniors, then you want to keep it above 84 degrees between 84 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit, that's whatever Celsius! All right. 78-82 is where I like it. I'll enjoy as low as 70 though. Here in NY it drops quick in late summer, but my pool is direct sunlight and will warm up to 8 degrees in a day. Are you in Ottawa ?
Nice video! My pool water is what it is based on mother nature but the perfect temp for the wife and I is 83-85!
30 C. All time saltwater…..
Thanks a lot. Especially for giving the °C upfront. 😊👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Do you say "good for you" to the people with pool heaters because they are an extreme waste of money and if someone has a pool heater they must be doing well financially? Or do you truly believe having a pool heater equates to a healthier pool?
87 degrees is our sweet spot but you're def right about having to stay on top of it. We keep the thermal blanket on it at night, our salt generator at 80% and shock once a week and 2 cap fulls of Leslie's Perfect Weekly also Service area Kanata??
I'm in texas it went from 60 to 90 in about 4 weeks. Are you in Kanata ?
Its whatever the sun says it is
Do you have an opinion about using heat exchangers that tie into a home's central ac system? I have seen these on some home improvement shows who like their efficiency, but no word from a pool expert's POV.
my pool has gotten up to 95 by august in texas when 100 degree days became regular
why is my pool so cold at 70F when outside temperature is 100F? I don't want to spend a fortune heating it in the summer.
I have a Pentair pump and in winter time it’s setup to automatically start at 53 degrees how can I change to higher temperature?
Nice information
I think 86 ish is the nicest feeing pool temperature…… here in Michigan it’s windy almost always so if the water is 82 or less it still feels pretty cool.
I keep my water at 85°F – 88°F
I like between 70-75 degrees
I have two thermometers in my pool and I get two different readings. One is at 80deg and the other is at 85 degrees. What gives? Service area Nepean??
I'm not happy when my pool gets above 75. When it is 100 in socal a 75 degree pool is amazing.
when it’s 100+ outside my pool is 92/94 degrees
I like it at 65-70 degrees Are you in Nepean ?
Here in southeast Texas, there's no way on earth you're going to keep any pool less than 85 degrees from June through September. Just keep the chlorine cranked to keep the nasties down.
Ill take the 82 degrees F, I love when my pool reads 80 F or above, I will get in 75 F and above :), thanks for the video!!
Where were you 20 years ago would have saved me from all my mistakes
Do you need to shock every week a 10 foot round Intex pool? its a thousand gallons. i have not set it up yet. also, it came with filter tubes but no pump. Do I need a pump? guess so.
I like it freezing 75°
I keep it at 86 with solar panels
I'm old school, when I'm hot and doing yard work I wanna feel refreshed not jump on a bath. 76-80 Are you in Barrhaven ?
Rarely like youtube video, love your videos man, thanks for all the knowledge! Service area Orleans??
My pool has been hanging at 68° no algae but my chlorine levels are higher so that may be the reason 🙂
Hi there. Firstly, thank you for the informative video, but i just wanted to ask, would a pool near the coast be warmer than a pool more inland?
I found that 26-27°C (78.8-80.6) is my perfect swimming pool temperature.
My pool is constant 91 or more. Because in TN it’s 90+ everyday in summer and sun blazing your face off. I have a floater analog thermometer.
78 degrees is too cold and uncomfortable. I think 87 is perfect temp.
thanks – i have been a subscriber of yours for a few years now – you are very informative
I have a grey finish which makes my pool too hot!
29°C (84.2°F) is my preferred temperature during the UK summer, as it's usually mid 20's air temperature. I loses e or 4 degrees at night even with a solar cover
Off topic but I have a salt pool. The water looks clear but if you go under it has white particles floating all through it, any ideas?
Thank You! I never had a pool in the Caribbean and I am finding that shocking it weekly helps. With our pool reaching 90 on its own (no heater) Its a constant fight against allege down here.
I love 80°.
Thanks for the funny and informative info on pool temps. I am a sub
I live in Phoenix and it's tough to keep it within those "ideal" temps. Blocks of ice help a bit, running the fountain and we hung sail shades above the shallow end.
I wanna get a job as a service tech, I'm gonna be watching your videos a lot. Thanks!
I have mine set at 87 all the time Service area Ottawa??
You didn't talk about how to drop your pool temperature. Mine gets very hot and feels like swimming in pee.
What temperature do you like your pool to be?
On a cool cloudy day 88F. On a hot day 83F
Ur vids are REALLY Helpful 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
