We're gon na talk about how to avoid common pool mistakes, so you can get back to swimming. So, let's dive in mistake, number one adding pool shot directly into the water pool shock is concentrated chlorine that can bleach anything that enters your pool instead. Free dissolve shock by adding it to a bucket of warm water and mixing slowly, while wearing protective gear. The shock will disperse more evenly throughout your pool and help protect your liner mistake number two, not brushing your pool.
Just like your teeth, your pool needs a good brushing to stay clean brush those hard-to-reach places behind the ladder or steps along the water line and the cracks and crevices do this once a week to keep algae and other debris at bay. Mistake number three using an automatic pool cleaner when you have an algae problem, automatic pool cleaners, just push, algae and other debris up through a mesh bag. Instead, back of your pool manually to remove the algae and be sure to switch your filter to waste or remove the drain, plug you'll lose some water, but you'll also lose the algae mistake. Number four, ignoring pH and alkalinity levels, low, pH and alkalinity - can damage your pool equipment because your water is acidic test.
Your water regularly and adjust your levels with pH increase or alkalinity increase, sir and other essential chemicals until everything's. In balance, mistake number five back washing your pool filter too often back washing cleans inside your filter. But overdoing it is a common mistake, make it over the filter pressure right after you backwash when it climbs to 10 psi over the norm. It's time to back wash and clean your filter to bring that pressure back down the stake.
Number six, adding pool shot through your skimmer, combining shocking chlorine, creates a deadly gas cause. An explosion. If you have an automatic chlorinator, so don't add shock to the skimmer. Follow the manufacturers directions and wear the appropriate safety gear mistake number seven shocking your pool during the day shock is unstabilized.
Chlorine and the Sun will burn off one part per million every hour which reduces the efficiency of shock and wastes money instead shock at night. To give it time to do its job and make sure no one's doing any night swimming mistake. Number eight not leveraging the calcium hardness in your pool, water, calcium, hardness, helps, extend the life span of your liner, concrete or fiberglass pool, add calcium, hardness increase or when you open your pool and keep it at the recommended level of 200 to 250 parts per million Test your water for calcium throughout the season, since evaporation and splash out, can cause the levels of drag. The steak number nine running your filter system, less than eight hours a day.
The more you run, your filter system, the cleaner, your pool will be run your filter and pump at least eight hours a day or more, preferably more, depending on the size of your pool. This should be plenty of time for all of the water to pass through the filter. Mistake number ten neglecting to test your pool. Water, weekly, weekly water testing can tip you off to small issues before they blossom into disasters test your pool water at least once a week, either with test strips or a liquid test kit and take a sample of your pool water to your local pool, supply, store And get a detailed analysis at least once a month and finally mistake: number eleven wearing street clothes in your pool wearing your everyday does in the pool can introduce chemicals, fibers and other contaminants to your water. Plus the chemicals in your water can ruin your clothes instead. Only wear proper swimsuits in the pool every coupe is a lesson on improving your pool care game, so take the time to learn from the mistakes of others. You'll spend less time, maintaining your pool and more time enjoying it happy swimming.
New pool owner here…In this video I see a guy dumping Calcium into the pool to raise the hardness. I did the same and now have a ton of undissolved salt at the bottom of my pool. Only way I can see to fix is to drain it… Is that true?
Lovely
Algaecides raise copper level
Quick question I just recently bought a sand filter pump for my Coleman above pool 18ft… I got the sand already but do I need to buy also shock or do I get salt to keep it clean and the ph levels good? Are you in Ottawa ?
We moved into the house with pool, have never had one. Due to some pool water issues we were recommended to do partial water replacement. First what I should do was the backwash. But I forgot to switch to the drain mode. I realized it only after ad hour of draining. Did I do any damage to the filter or its components? Scared to go any further… Any advices???
I don’t shock my pool because I have a salt water pool correct?
I bought XtraBlue Algaecide 40 oz. Algae Prevention and Algaecide and Xtra shock. Can I put them both in at the same time
Thanks for information 🙂
Hi is there someone whocan answer me… we just tried to put some chlorine powder in our inflatable pool (for the first time) and to our shock the water turn red. Is there anything we can do about it? Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.
I’ve done some of those mistakes. Thanks sharing
what test strip you recommend? i bought one but all the result doesn't make sense, i guess the quality of the test strip is bad. I test with water test (drop) it looks fine.
Great information! Do you do the animation by yourself? You have done a beautiful job!
Who are these jerks swimming in their street clothes?
So what if you have algae, above ground pool and do not have a vacuum like shown?!?!
I use bromine in my pool having trouble with cloudiness been using first aid 4 applications still cloudy and I wondered if I should be shocking it with non-chlorine shock
I cant get rid of algea Are you in Nepean ?
I added shock without my sand pump running, what’s going to happen
We swim naked not in street clothes Service area Ottawa??
What happens if my psi is zero?
Thanks man, this was the 7th Swim uni vid I've watched (new pool owner) and I swear I thought that Mistake #11 "swimming with your street clothes in your pool" was going to conclude with "Swim Naked when possible"… which would have been awesome! But super helpful thanks doing these! Service area Kanata??
I have well water what is the best way to keep the iron out of the pool the stains at the bottom are terrible I hear a hose filter is the best
Shock packs we use says do not mix water, but add directly too pool Service area Orleans??
So my pool tests high on alkalinity and i havent found anything that brings it down. Help! Are you in Barrhaven ?
Or hire a professional to take care of your pool….. Are you in Kanata ?
MY pool is high on alkalinity and the PH is normal but the chlorine is at zero every day I add 4 tablets to the pool and it will not climb up please advise me on how to fix this pool lock.
8hr a day? That’s crazy amount of electricity bill
You can add shock directly to your pool, you just have to brush it afterwards. Also depends on the type of plaster. Whoever was adding those drops in the video was doing it wrong as you have to hold those bottle completely straight down when adding drops not holding them horizontally(you won’t get an accurate reading)
taking water to your store every month for a detailed analysis? honestly who the fuck has that much time lol….
So they apply to pool that’s not underground? Any difference maintenance for it?
Very good video, thanks.
Good points, interesting things I had never heard of before.
None of this advice is wrong but I do want to say that if you want to take care of your pool you have to be INTERESTED in what’s going on and why.
I got thrown into pool maintenance when my company built a new hotel with a pool with an infinity edge. I was trained by guys who just read the standard brochure on pool maintenance. It took several frustrating months to dial in the balance because the pool I was operating had unique variables (carbon outgassing caused by the infinity edge and unusually high alkalinity from our water source).
Achieving and maintaining a perfect, glistening, iridescent pool takes a willingness to learn new things and a mental approach.
This vid will definitely get you started, but you gotta embrace your curiosity so when something goes sideways you can troubleshoot it asap and minimize downtime.
It’s very satisfying to maintain a nearly-perfect pool, especially if you intend to share that water with guests. You can google ‘SpringHill Suites Marriott Deadwood pool’ if you wanna see my baby.
Get interested, think of pool maintenance like cooking good food for guests.
Pool has a solid custom cover, the water in our area is hard, now the border tile and gunite mainly on the steps are very coarse with ( I guess calcium deposit ) any suggestions please?
What's the biggest mistake you've made with your swimming pool?
about the 8 hours rules , doesnt that depend of the power of your pump / size of tank filter ? i mean if your pump is slightly undersized you will need probably more than 8 but if oversized then in 5 hours the same volume of water could be clean .
For those who are critical of #1, no the mixture will NOT explode in your face. The reason the manufacturer recommends not mixing is likely because there might be chlorine gas released in close proximity to the user while mixing. Still, I would not use this method of applying the shock to the pool. No matter how well you mix, some granules will still fall to the bottom of the pool. If he was concerned about the vinyl liner, he should have used a liquid chlorine shock and poured it over the return jet while the pump is running, and immediately brushed the pool to help circulate the liquid around the pool. BTW, one of the best pieces of advice he gave, was to regularly brush the pool, particularly after adding chemicals directly to the pool. This is one of those chores that is really important when fighting the onset of an algae bloom, but is often ignored. No doubt about it, brushing is grunt work particularly in hot humid weather, but important if you want to keep the pool looking nice. Speaking from experience, an added benefit from brushing the pool regularly, are the arm and shoulder muscles one develops over the years. Are you in Orleans ?
Uh, I wear street clothes into my pool all the time. I am too lazy to change. i also wear street clothes to bed. I'll change like from one set of clothes one day to another another day…sometimes.
My pool shocks states DO NOT PREDILUTE lol
Shock buckets specifically say not to predisolve shock and that using the product other than intended is a federal offense.
I have never understood why people don't cover their pool when summer is over and the pool won't be used till the next summer! Then they have to drain the nasty water and clean it thoroughly! It's not that hard ! It just takes a little time! In my opinion it's just pure laziness!! Pool maintenance is simple. And in my opinion people that do that shouldn't have a pool !
11 is impressive but I’ve made at least 12 pool maintenance mistakes. Just sayin.
Run your pool filter 4 hours a day in summer and 3 hours a day in winter. I do run it extra when I swim in it at least one hour before and after. 8 hours a day is a waste actually especially with electric rates increasing. If your pool water is a mess after 4 hours, it means the pool equipment is wrong (under capacity) or your cleaning regimen could be improved (more brushing and vacuuming). I check water quality once a month. What’s the point if it doesn’t change frequently.
He said not to add shock through the skimmer. And I don’t.Can you add liquid chlorine through the skimmer?
This is a very good video 😱😱
I have been placing 3 inch chlorine tablets in my skimmer bucket but I'm thinking to disperse chlorine I should use a floater. What is the best since i want to keep my heat pump lasting as long as I can?
He is 100% correct with it all , not all directions on products are right it comes down to common sense
Running your pump 8 hours is not necessary
Pool shock say’s do not pre-dilute or add to skimmer…
I guess I need to go buy some PH up tablets. My pool looks amazing, but the PH is low. Good video. You covered a lot in a little time. Service area Nepean??
Great tips. Thanks for making the video.
