On this episode, we're talking about some common problems you might have with your hot tub and how to troubleshoot them. So there are five common problems you could have with your hot tub and we're gon na teach you how to troubleshoot them. But if you're unsure, i recommend you hire a professional, so number one is that your hot tub won't heat properly. So why is that? Well, it simply could be your heater element.

If that's not the problem, it could be low flow from your pump and, if so, either one of those you're gon na have to replace them and again, if you're, unsure on how to replace them yourself, please hire a professional number. Two is that your jets are not working properly. This could be because most hot tubs have adjustable jets, and all you have to do is turn them one way or another to open them all the way or close them all the way, so just make sure that they're open all the way. Now, if you're just refilling your hot tub chances are, you might have an air lock and if that's the case, you can pull off the front panel and adjust the two unions on your pump and just let a little air out now, if you're unsure about how To do this, my friend dan from poolandspot.com has an excellent video on this and i'll link to it in the description below number three is that your control panel on your hot tub might be displaying an error code and there are really five common error codes.

You might run into the first one being flow or flc, which is when you have improper flow going through your hot tub. The first thing i would do in this case is to check to make sure that your hot tub is filled at the proper level and also make sure that your uh filters inside your hot tub are clean or, if they're, you know getting old. It's time to replace them other than that it could be your pump itself, but really those are the first two things you can check before. You start to think that it's your pump.

Another error code is oh, which stands for overheating. If your hot tub overheats to over 108 degrees fahrenheit, you may have a problem with your temp sensor, but if it's cooler than 108, but still reading 108, it might be your high limit sensor. That's also malfunctioning, dr or dry, is another common error code you might find, which is similar to flow, meaning that there's not enough water. Getting to your heater element - and the first thing you can check is to make sure your water level is at the proper level, and you can make sure that your filters are clean or, if not need to be replaced.

If you suspect anything else, i would suggest hiring a professional in this case. Cool is another error code you might run into and that's very simply when your actual water temperature is 20 degrees below where you set your hot tub temperature at and to solve this problem, you can just add your hot tub cover on and let it heat up. Sna or snb are some other codes, meaning that sensor a or sensor b has gone bad. Now you can check those two sensors that are attached to the circuit board to see if they're bad, but if they're good it might be the entire circuit board itself again, if you're unsure, just hire a professional and they'll take care of it asap.
So those are the error codes and if you want a list of more error codes, i'll link to the description below from our friends at the spa, depot.com number four is your pump is making some weirdly loud noises and that's usually a sign that the bearings in Your motor are going bad and the motor is about to seize. In this case, you can get the motor replaced, you can get the bearings fixed, but it actually can end up costing you just as much as getting an entire new pump. So i recommend just getting a brand new pump for your hot tub. Lastly, number five is that your gfci breaker keeps tripping now in order to find the problem, because it could be a number of things like your heater element, your ozonator, your pump or even your air blower, you just unplug all of them, and make sure that the Breaker's off and then plug just one of them back in one at a time and flip your breaker on to see if it trips, if it trips, then you know that's the case now for your heater element.

If you've plugged all the units back in and the breaker still trips, then it's probably probably your heater element and you need to get that replaced, and this is one of those cases where, since you're dealing with water and electric, i would absolutely hire a professional if You're unsure bonus tip today's bonus tip is brought to you by the hot tub handbook, which is a downloadable illustrated guide that i created all about hot tub maintenance. You can get your copy by going to swimuniversity.com handbook now. Today's bonus tip is all about water care, because water care and filter care will actually help solve a lot of these common hot tub problems. So just make sure that your your water has good, ph, good, alkalinity and good sanitizer, meaning that your ph is between 7.4 and 7.6.

Your alkalinity between 80 and 120 parts per million and make sure that you have plenty of sanitizer in your water also make sure that you rinse your filters at least once a week and use a filter cleaner at least once a month. And if they need to be replaced, replace your filters, you can also go to swimuniversity.com for more information and, if you're on youtube, just click subscribe. So you can get a new video like this every week. That's it thanks again and happy soaking, you.

l have a Rimini spa bad or hotub , that is about 8 years old. I am in Sweden, We noticed a while ago that it did not seem to have full power, when pushed on full power, the flow was weak, everywhere. We also said to ourselves, that we think that we had 2 power settings, you pushed it in and got like 50% bubbles and then pushed it in again for full bubbles. But we only seemed to have one setting now full and off only. I know the pump is 2 speed, says on it. So I took the pump out and took it apart, noticed that the impellor was half missing, all broken, So I thought great was impellor, ordered a new impellor and seals, just the same, pushed the jet button on, which again only full mode, hardly any flow. could not believe that this was not the problem.
And then after testing it for a good few times, the jet button refused to go on to full bubbles, I am thinking that this is some safety cut-off switch inbuilt. I thought for a while that possibly the pump smelled like it was burning just a little. I have taken out all the jets, emptied the water, blasted a hose through all of them, thinking that if 50% of the impellor is disintegrated, then bits must be stuck somewhere. Some small bits have come out. very small though. I am wondering if I need to buy a new pump, Just hope it's not the motherboard or control panel. Because the pump has not 2 speeds working, or something is definitely not right. What's your opinion. Is there something else I need to check? I am cracking up, not finding the problem, Could it be the capacitor? I am hoping a new pump will solve the issue. Appreciate your opinion thanks.

Ok so I have an issue with my hot tub if you could help. The flow switch isn’t working so I have ordered a new sensor but for the moment overriding the flow switch.
The pump jets work and the jacuzzi says heat. Temp shows 72degrees trying to get to 85. Pumps run for a little while but water is very slow to heat but then all shuts off and I get the OH (overheating) error code.
What could I look at next? Temp sensor? Circulation pump? Heating element?

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bob marley says:

So my GFCI trips from the 20 amp the 30 amp for the heater is off. I unhooked everything possible both jets the circ pump the ozonator even the control wires and the light and the gfci still trips but not if the 20 amp breaker is off. Any clues or do I just need to break out the multimeter and go fishing?

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Patsy Hamilton says:

Love the video. Covered a lot of issues in a short and efficient manner. Recently I replaced my control panel for the second time because I didn't seal the first one with sealant that is made for pools and spas. Then the circulating pump went out so I replaced that. Now it won't heat but I am not getting any error codes. How do I determine if it is the heater or the board?

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Reg says:

I have a 2006 Sundance Capri Spa that came with the house I purchased several years ago and I have been cleaning and rebuilding it since. The 1st was leaking Sun Scents Aromatherapy Tube, I had sealed that. The 2nd was the Temperature Up/Down selection buttons, the whole LCD Panel cost over $500+ for a new one so I jumped the wires for the High Limit and Temperature Sensors and added over 2 Mega Ohms of resistance which drop the temperature to 60 Degrees Fahrenheit causing the heater to turn on. To return it back to the original configuration if it gets too hot or not in use, I switch the jumpers. The 3rd was the Bubble Blower the Upper Bronze Bearing had worn out and caused an imbalance which resulted in the wobbling and arcing of the commutator with the carbon brushes which smoked the Spa with Smoke and Bubbles before the circuit opened I replaced my with a new Ametek Specialty Motor LAMB RA1413430-02 from Grainger. It works likes charm now.

The 4th and final problem is the Two Speed Jet Blower. It only has the basic Block Wire Diagram which shows the Relays and Terminals. I was wondering if you have ever Bypassed the Jets motor by adding a Remote Switch or Timer to a Spa? I will make a block diagram showing it working with the Cleaning Timer. I would’ve never gone through all of this if it was not for the price of a replacement panel. Or if you know of a replacement for fix for the switches on the topside panel? I’ve seen plenty of videos on YouTube and contacted companies that remanufacture the panel layers of other switches but since this is a rare item it will cost too much to make one panel. Usually one would purchase or get a new Spa. My choice is that this is still a perfectly good and designed Spa but if a reasonable price for a panel is not available I would opt to remove the whole unit before paying $500+.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jonathan Arvizu says:

QUESTION/// i did a noob thing and feel the need to ask if this is a big problem or not…. i drained tho hot tub wiped it down and filled it up, yet after i filled it up, I FORGOT TO CLEAN THE FILTER sooo i took the cap off the filter and umm water over flowed and went under the cabinet where uhh all the components are and thay all had water going over it i tried to dry it with a towl after i took the filter out and the seal back on… is there a reason for concern? or will it be a maintenance prob?

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars LEON SITKA says:

My hot tub comes on for about two to three min and goes off

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nick Nolan says:

Extremely weird…. I inherited my jacuzzi j355 when I purchased my house, I turned it on and the errors change filter, cool and flo were on the screen. I replaced the filters but it still has the same error messages.
What do I do next? The manual is terrible and there is no tech support from jacuzzi 😖
