So um, we are live streaming on all sorts of different platforms I'm trying to add more and more as things go on. There's a lot of weird stuff going on with social media right now.

everybody's trying to compete with each other YouTube I don't know I I've sent so many emails to YouTube because they're just being dumb. They only want you know, like to be pushing their short content which I get you know I get it? they're trying to compete with the other people and stuff and um I'm not a I don't like things I don't like to be told that I have to do things I don't like to be told that you know I need to be making shorts and all this different stuff and I've been talking with someone from YouTube for a while. Um, it's questionable whether or not he actually has any influence with YouTube I think he might be an outside company that they just hire to try to convince me to beg people for money. It's so weird because they I'm going off on a tangent right now, but it is what it is.

as a social media person, it's kind of funny how this stuff works but YouTube had someone reach out to me they say they work for YouTube but they don't. You can tell they're from like a third party company and all they do is like encourage me to like, tell people to donate more, do more of this, do more that and I'm like no, I'm not doing that like stop. You know it's just silly, but they're trying to compete with everybody else and so when they're trying to do that, they're They're like slowing down of the pushing of my channel and it's just it is what it is. Whatever.

I still have you guys watching so I'm thankful for that so thank you very much. But um, that is the reason why you're seeing more of the YouTube shorts. I Get it, things are changing, you know? I gotta change with the times and stuff, but my head is really difficult I'm a stubborn person so it's hard for me to like jump in here and do what they say. um you know, whatever it is, it is what it is.

It's just a fun game you have to play in the social media world. I'm thankful for the interaction, but it's funny because like the most repetitive questions ever and it's just like okay I got to cover that one on the live stream. you know, because you get them so many. So um, let's see is Linux the most popular air conditioning brand that I work on I'm paraphrasing your question uh yeah, I work on Linux the most and then I would say carrier the second and then uh, maybe train after that and then uh York after that, those are the the big four that I work on on a regular basis. I do a lot of work on package units.

The majority of the work that I do is on restaurants. So big chain restaurants really? Um, let's see I'm reading through the chat right now. so again, when you guys put them in a question or in caps lock, it helps me to realize that it's an actual question that I need to cover. Okay, so uh, as I'm going through this all right.

So great people! Both those companies are amazing companies and it's really awesome that they choose to work with me. It's kind of cool. So um, uh. the the second most common question I've had in the last two weeks is on my recent video where I had a beer walking install.

It was an intelligent install for the Heatcraft project I was working on what in the heck were those blower fans in front of the evaporator I know it was driving so many people nuts and I answered it a few times in the comments. those blower fans that were in front of the evaporator are a poor man's glycol unit. Okay, what it is is that particular beer walking on the other side of that wall, on the outside of the walk and on the other side of the wall they have Taps coming straight out. and they have tap handles.

So what they're trying to do is they're trying to cool the tap lines the beer lines as they're running out of the box going through the wall. and their genius idea was to put a giant restriction airflow restriction in front of the evaporator fan motor and try to capture some of that air and take a smaller fan and blow it into a tiny tube to try to cool the beer lines. It works, but it's just a massive restriction for the evaporator coil. But yeah, all it's doing is it's taking the discharge air of the evaporator coil and it's forcing it into a PVC pipe that has all the beer lines ran in it and it runs over maybe eight feet out over and then back into the box.

So it is not creating a negative air pressure on the box. if, well, it's not creating that much of a negative air pressure. If anything, the air is coming back into the walk-in so it's really just a circulator fan that's pushing the air out and pulling it back in so there's nothing too magical about them. In some some people had some great comments they were saying it's to move air to the other side of the Box I've seen that happen too, but that's not in this case.

that's not what they're doing I've also seen in some of the like K stores convenience stores that have the really long L-shaped walk-ins I've seen them take like a 12 inch um uh, flexible 90 like a sheet metal 90 and put it over the fan guard and then direct the air to the left and to the right. It's pretty smart idea, but it also is a restriction in a way, but pretty smart idea. I've seen people do so um got all kinds of questions that I want to cover in front of me but again, feel free to ask questions if you guys have them. Okay, just put them in caps lock.

uh Dylan says have I ever worked on smoke, exhaust and pressurization fans? um I yeah well I don't know if it's exactly what you're talking about I used to do work for a hospital that um well no I guess it's not really the same thing as what you're talking about. no I don't think I have worked on those I used to do work for a hospital and they used to have um uh negative air pressure rooms that would have uh, it's where they would process the chemotherapy, medicine and like do different things and I can't remember what you'd call them but they had like environmental chambers that they would drop down, stick their arms through gloves and do all kinds of stuff. but I know that's not what you were asking but those were some interesting exhaust fans they had HEPA filtration on them and they had to be within a perfect airflow. Those things were interesting I'm going off on a tangent but those things were interesting because they had Magna helic gauges on them and in order for the the system to work correctly in order for them to get the okay to go ahead and process and package the medicines and different things, then uh, it had to be in a certain range on the Magna Helix So we would actually have to schedule uh, they would do like uh, bi-monthly So every two months we would go out and change the belts which is something kind of scary.

I would always ask him like is this stuff safe because those belts would be all dried out and it always made me wonder like how would these belts dry out in two months? Kind of sketchy, you know. I wasn't glowing green when I left but I was always kind of curious. but yeah, we would have to schedule to change belts. It was like this whole process and then they'd have to go through and audit after we got done changing the belts and they'd have to like let it run for so many hours to verify the airflow was within range and then they could start doing their medication processing again and stuff.

That's a very interesting one, but no. I've never worked on Uh I don't think smoke, exhausts and pressure is it I I don't know what you mean by that Dylan like I mean that. That's a very interesting question because I work on exhaust fans that pull smoke out and then I work on makeover units that pressurize the building. but I have a feeling you're asking something different.

So I'm reading through it here. which invoicing software do I use for my business? No, it's all good man. Um, the invoicing software I don't know if you're one of the people that was asking me. but I have a couple people coming to this stream right now because they were curious about what invoicing software but I was working on.

um what I have been working with is uh Intuit Field Service management is what I use currently at the moment I've used it for. probably if I had to guess at least 10 years now. it does not do everything that I want it to do. It works for me.

but I will be honest. like I've really considered changing softwares but I'm so deep with that one that it would be a nightmare to change. But I'll give a shout out right now I know nothing about this software I've just done some preliminary research Okay, I'm not endorsing it as of yet. I'm definitely going to be talking to them because uh, I've been.

They've been reaching out to me, but there's a new software that's supposed to be tailored towards restaurant service companies and it's called Roo pairs. Um, I'm very intrigued by it because I've had some brief Communications uh with them and some of the things that they say it can do. I'm very intrigued by so I'm definitely going to be looking into the Roo Pairs software uh to see how it works and you know if there's anything cool about it. So, but again, I have no affiliation with them I'm not endorsing it or anything I'm just curious about it so we will see.

Uh, what does a compressor oil look like if it's been flooding back too much? John Deere Fan There's a lot of different, uh, things that can happen if you have flooding back. If you have flooding back, there's the potential that you could have flooded starts. Um, that you could be washing the oil from the compressor. so it's possible that you might not have any oil in the compressor at all.

There's there's a bunch of different things that can happen, but it's funny that you asked that question. John Deere Fan because I haven't released it yet. but I just got done editing a video that kind of has that situation in it. I'm not going to tell you guys anymore, but it is a banger of a video.

It's really cool. Um, it's it's a long one. It's like 48 minutes long and uh, it definitely has a beginning, middle and an end to it. So it's a pretty, uh, action-packed video, so stay tuned.

There's a good good possibility that will be released this. Thursday Very good possibility. I'm not promising 100 percent but if I can get everything done the the video itself is done. but I've got to do all the footwork and the thumbnails and all that stuff so still got a little bit of work ahead of me.

but um, we will see. All right. reading through the chat right now I See a lot of different stuff going in here. What makes a hard start cap blow up on a brand new unit? Found the unit with a bad compressor symptoms of reversing valve.

Have to go back tomorrow. So what makes a hard start capacitor blow up on a brand new unit? Well the first question I'm going to ask you is why the heck is a hard start capacitor on a brand new unit? Okay I Know that there's some people out there, especially the capacitor manufacturers that are going to tell you that you should always install a hard start kit on a new unit I Argue against that. Okay, I like to follow what the manufacturer of the equipment says to do Copeland Will oftentimes tell you that hey, uh, you this this Let's just say a residential unit. This residential unit requires a run capacitor and sometimes they'll give you an option for a start capacitor and a potential relay.

Okay, I prefer to use a start cook capacitor in a potential relay that was designed for the compressor. Now I know that this could be a loaded question and I know that you may be mistakenly saying hard start maybe you're not I Don't know. A lot of people think that a hard start is something that it's not. So oftentimes there's manufacturers out there that create a universal capacitor kit that they have have you add to a compressor that's on its way out that maybe gives a little bit more starting torque.

IT Wires uh in with the run capacitor and there's a couple different manufacturers so there's different ways that they do it. But I'm a firm believer in putting back in the capacitors that are on brand or that are supposed to be with the compressor. Okay, so if I'm working on a residential unit now, I will give a caveat. If the manufacturer of the residential unit requires you to add something to it, then go with what they say.

But I don't like adding hard starts to new compressors or any compressors. And if I do put a hard start on a compressor, Let me also say that you can only put a hard start on a single phase compressor. Okay, but if I do put a hard start on there, it usually means that the compressor is on its way out and this is just a last ditch effort to get it going and I'm going to make a recommendation to replace it. Okay, so what would cause a hard start to blow apart? Well, majority the times when you have issues with capacitors or starting components, it usually means that you have short cycling and or voltage that's being delivered to it is is too low or too high or you have problems with the voltage.

That's my experience with capacitors that fail often. Okay, then there's also junk capacitors that are made. You know they're just poor quality and those things just seem to fail no matter what. But my um, data that I typically see is when capacitors are failing.

it's because of short cycling, it's because of voltage problems. or and those are the two main issues that cause capacitor problems that I run into. So Reading through the chat right now, let's see what else um do I think being a technician is a hard job Micah Man, you guys are leading me into all kinds of questions. So um, all kinds of things that I want to talk about.

So do I think that being a technician is a hard job. Yeah, there's there's things about this job that can be difficult. Okay, but I will say I struggle with all sorts of aspects of this career. Okay, but the struggles that I go through are typically because of the person that I am and because of the issues that I have I'm a different kind of a person I know there's some undiagnosed mental issues.

Um, you guys may see it in the way that I obsess about things that I I'm I'm very, uh, calculated about how I do things I overthink everything. So whenever I'm stressed out, whenever I'm having problems, it's typically my own doing now. I happen to be going through some crazy things right now um, that are causing me to be just super stressed out I have I have just massive stress, massive anxiety. um, and it's my own doing.

It really is I know it is. I would encourage everybody out there again. I'm going off on all kinds of different tangents right now. Okay I would encourage everybody out there that I have a good support group I have some really good friends and I have my wife I have my family and I've been talking to all of them telling them that hey, I'm struggling right now I'm going through some issues I'm going to encourage all of you out there too to make sure that you have a good support network.

You have friends and family that are always looking out for you. Even if things are going good, it's always good to look out for your friends and family in general. Because people go through things, people get stressed out, people have anxiety, and it's always good to have a good support group. So I have one I encourage you all to make sure that you have a good support group too people to reach out to.

But anyways, it's just funny that these questions are coming through because these are all things that I wanted to talk about. So let's see what else. Um, uh, do I think Okay, so anyways, but do I think being a technician is a hard job? Well, I yeah, but I mean it's very rewarding too, you know. I'm always looking for a challenge I Love a challenge now.

Ironically, majority of my problems don't have to do with the actual work it has to do with um, the schedule and just me building my own stress. Ironically, when I'm stressed out, some of the best things that I can do is actually go run service calls because my mind is at ease when I'm troubleshooting, when I'm diagnosing, when I'm fixing things. uh I love fixing things I genuinely do or genuinely do so. Uh, a stress reliever for me is to actually go out and do some service work.

Um, it's that's kind of weird I know. But I don't think that uh, this is a job to be afraid of I think that you just can't let this job take control of you. You have to make sure. And I don't buy the argument that refrigeration and air conditioning causes divorces.

That it leads to divorces I Don't buy that argument because in my opinion, and correct me if I'm wrong, feel free to send me an email and yell at me. It's all good. if you're having issues because you're working too much, that's because you're making the choice to work too much and that's on you that's not on the job. If your your company is stressing you out because they're telling you to work too much, again, that's on you because you have the power to leave that company right? So don't blame the job.

Okay, blame yourself for obsessing about the job and ignoring other things or not prioritizing the things that are most important. Okay, these are all things that I struggle with on a daily and I have again my support network that puts me in check that says hey, you're focusing a little bit too much on this, you need to step it back and then I have to remember. Okay, I have to let my pride get behind me and I have to listen to what my support group tells me. All right, Um, how many hours to and from work do I travel a day? Well, um I don't know I mean where I used to live? uh I live very close to my office now.

so um I'm I'm at work in 10 15 minutes. no problem now then I leave and I go do service calls. So uh, but I used to live an hour and a half hour to an hour and a half away from my office and that made for really long days when my children were little. I would leave work I would leave for work when it was dark and I would get home from work when it was dark sometimes I wouldn't even get to say goodnight to my kids and I wouldn't even get to say good morning to him.

But again I had to make a decision and that was one of those times that my wife stepped in and she said hey, something has to change and I wasn't happy about it I because again I don't like change and she's like we need to move and I was like no I don't want to move I like where we live and she convinced me to move and it was the best thing we ever did. So again, remember to listen to your support group Okay, listen to your significant other um and make sure you communicate often. That's one of the best pieces of advice I can give anybody that's doing refrigeration and air conditioning because again, the job is not to blame for your divorce. It's not to blame for your stress.

It's not to blame for any of that. It's you that chooses to let the job make you stressed and chooses. And it's you that chooses to go to work instead of staying home. You know that kind of stuff you get where I'm going with that.

Okay, all right, Um, so I already answered that. One One of the more common questions that I had on a recent video to the Intelligent video was when I was showing the Navac swaging tool how it actually cracked the 3 8 liquid line. And yes, good eye on hundreds of you that caught that. Okay, it did crack the liquid line.

So I mentioned many times I've shown that tool. There might even be some stuff that I haven't shown with that tool, but I bought the Navac power expander I think is what they call it, but it's a swager. Okay, it's a hydraulic swaging. Tool Uh, it works decent, but it is not my favorite.

but I really do appreciate the fact that Navac was the first. And the cool thing is is Navc is constantly evolving their tools. Okay, so with the Navac swaging tool, when you use it on 3 8, half inch, 5 8 it tends to do okay on three quarter and seven eighths. but the 5 8, the half inch, and the 3 8 it does not work.

On quarter, you have to push the button, it starts swaging and then you have to push the button again and stop it. Then you have to release it. Then you have to turn it about 60 40 degrees somewhere in there and then do it again and you have to rotate it because it will split the pipe, especially on 3 8 pipe. It's kind of inconvenient.

it's kind of a bummer, but I still like the tool I'd still recommend people buy it, you just have to know how to use it. But I bet you anything that Navac is already working on a new solution for that tool. Okay, and that's what I like about them: I have no affiliation with Navac I'm not sponsored by them. They've never given me anything but I've bought all those tools that I have or that that swaging tool myself.

but it's cool I really do like it. Okay, but yeah I did split the pipe I did have to braise over it. It wasn't a big deal, but it is kind of funny because I think right at that moment I said you have to be careful because it splits the pipe and then it actually split it. So go figure right? Um, let me see.

Uh, reading through the chat right now seeing what I'm missing. uh that Bender looks awesome my Kendra Henderson yeah I've had the opportunity to actually use the Bender I do not have it I just saw it at a trade show. it's pretty cool I do have to say they did a good job on that bender and they do have a reverse bending attachment I know they're just starting to push that tool um I actually have it on a video of me using it when I I Went to the Ihackey trade show back in November of 2022 and I had it in my hands and it was in my Ihackie trade show recap video where I went to the Navac booth and I got it on film showing myself using it. It is cool.

It is a cool tool and I probably will end up picking it up so let's see what else we got going on in here. Hilmore Hydraulic. We'll split 3 8 the same way. Andy Yeah and it's because of the way.

if you look at it, it's the way that it expands and you you need to rotate it. So my good friend Adam Uh from the HVAC overtime show I saw him in here a few minutes ago. he may still be in here. Yeah, uh HVAC overtime.

He had a good point. He actually brought it to Navax attention. So if Navc ends up doing this, I can promise you that it was Adam's idea. So if you guys see Navac come out with this because Adam brought this to Navac's attention actually brought it to Andrew Grieve's attention at the the training Symposium at Kalos in 2021.

No 2022 at the Symposium he brought it to Uh Andrew Grieve's attention that on the swaging tool. Um, there's another manufacturer I think it's upenor that makes one for the pets the PEX expanders and theirs actually rotates the head on the inside. After it expands it, it rotates it all the way through. and if Navac starts doing that, I can guarantee you and you can make sure you tell Navac that that was Adam's idea because he gave that to them.

Um, but I'm sure they'll come up with something like that where when it's expanding, it disengages, rotates, then expands again. That would be the way for them to fix that tool. All right. Uh, let's see.

Uh Neil Vester says you have a working freezer with 115 volt compressor, but you use 220 is standard down there. 415 three phase. The unit doesn't go below negative 10. What is my advice? Uh, that is a loaded question my friend.

I Encourage you to go ahead and send me an email to Hvacrvideos Gmail.com So you say that it's 115 volt compressor, but you use 220. are I I Don't understand, Are you powering it with 220? but it has 115 volt compressor? That's that's near impossible unless you're using a Step Down Transformer or something. But in that situation again, I Know there's probably a lot more to your question. Just get a 220 volt compressor with the same BTU capacity.

put it in there and call it a day. I Guess you'd have to do some control work too or something. but um, Adam dude, you didn't need to give me a Super Chat Come on bro! that was awesome though. Adam I Really do appreciate you and yes, Adam is my fake Internet best friend for sure.

Symposium in 2020 wall is it 2021 or 2022 is 2022? I think but anyways. uh he gave us some suggestions from a friend of his and we all had a big meet up after the Symposium one night at a really cool place in Winter Garden so that was cool, that was when it was in Florida So um, let's see what else we got going on in here.

Uh yeah, that's a bummer. All right. So go through my list. um, cork tape guys I've covered that a bunch of times.

I Made a little short saying: Court tape was invented by the devil I really don't like Court tape I was watching um uh live stream the other night with uh Ryan Hughes and Rick and uh Steve from everything hvacr and Adrian you were on there too I think uh, reliable Hvacr I think too right? um everything HVAC are Steve right? I think it is I think it is um but anyways I was watching the live stream and they were kind of talking about the cork tape because I had mentioned something and someone was asking in the chat. Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the Court tape I really have and it irritates the heck out of me because you end up cutting the heck out of your hands trying to get it off in a freezer. especially on a walk-in freezer. when people insulate suction lines and stuff with court tape, it's a nightmare, but there's a few instances where I will use cork tape.

the one place that in my book I give a hundred percent. Make an exception for cork tape is when you're insulating the Um, the suction line temperature sensors on the smart evaporators like the Heatcraft Intelligent or the Uh Ke2 uh Evap efficiency controllers. They require a suction temperature sensor and the cork tape is perfect for that. That is absolute perfect place for it, but it does not belong on suction lines I hate when people insulate everything because it's either frozen solid and you're trying to get it off and you end up cutting your hands up trying to cut it off or it's so hot that it's melting off the lines and just making a goopy tarry mess.

And that stuff is a bummer for sure. So all right I'm reading through the chat right now seeing what I'm missing. What is my take on Scentsy Predict. So um, it's funny I actually have a Scentsy predict right here I have honestly had this Sensei predict in my house I have not installed it.

It's been sitting here for over a year. Um, foreign. So what Scentsy predict is it's a smart controller that has a bunch of sensors. It can be used with the white Rogers or Emerson Sensi Thermostat or not, it can be used with a conventional thermostat.

it requires a a membership or subscription that you sign up for and it has a bunch of temperature thermistors that are ran all over the place and it helps to predict potential problems. So um I think it's great technology I Honestly think um that uh, this stuff and things like this are going to be adapted a little bit more and they're going to come into play more as the years go on for sure. Smart Air Conditioning Systems 100 Now this was not given to me I paid for this with my own money I'm actually going to be sending this I think I'm sending it to bill right? Uh, but yeah, it's I think it's a cool system if if you know. but the importance about Scentsy is you have to know there's a membership. It's not much, it's I think Adam said it's like five bucks a month or something like that. Something simple, but um, there is a membership and the cool thing is is for contractors it gives you the ability to see and get alerts at the same time.

The customer is getting alerts so you can call them and say hey, I got an alert saying this was happening and the customer got an alert and it just helps you be a little more proactive about your air conditioning equipment. Jason Bummed you're not gonna be there man. All right. Uh, let's see. um uh Jason Johnson says he would rather manufacturers use the wells for the thermistors like Daikin Mitsubishi on their equipment actually Jason on the heatcraft equipment.

they still use a well, but I use the cork tape to keep the sensor in the well so that way it doesn't come out so it's really not wrapping around the pipe. it's literally just molded on the top of the pipe and on the The Wire coming out of the thermistor just to keep it in place. But I agree. if you wrap it around a pipe, that's when things get really, really difficult.

Uh, I mean it depends man. One thing that I don't like about subscription: Services My own house I have two children they're older teenage girls and uh, we have a million subscription I have more streaming services at my house than a normal person should have. It's insane how many streaming services I have, right? And oftentimes you can get lost in subscriptions and I can't find which subscript I'm like I just have to basically wait for my credit card statement to say oh dang it.

Okay, yeah, I need to cancel that one. you know? then you gotta wait another however long, you know, whatever. But yeah, I don't like subscription services, but it's kind of the way the industry is going and it's kind of the way that the world is going. Like with your car you can't buy a car.

today. they give you features for two years and then they take them away and they put them behind a paywall. You know you want remote start on your your Honda. you get it free for two years or insert whatever name manufacturer here.

you get remote start for the first two years, then it disappears and then you have to pay a subscription fee so they keep getting revenue from you to keep features that are installed on your car. Not a huge fan of that. I know Tesla was the one to really push that one out. you know? But yeah I don't know I don't know.

Um see and that's something that's really messed up about my brain. This is something I was telling my wife the other day. my brain is so weird I can remember the most random things like I can remember that Christina works for Haven Why I don't know I see her interactions or I saw something but I have I have the most random information in my head and the problem I can remember phone numbers from years ago addresses weird things that I shouldn't remember right? but then I can't remember simple things that like I'll come home from work and my daughter will tell me something and it's like okay, cool, you know and then the next day she's like okay Dad are we gonna do this and I'm like uh yeah, what are we gonna do I don't remember like I don't know my brain prioritizes things in a weird way I just random knowledge in my head.

but go figure right? All right? Uh Christina I actually just installed uh, a Haven air monitor in my house I've actually had it in there for about a month now so I'm uh, if if people I'm sure some of you guys know, but I'm in the process of changing my air conditioning system in my house. uh and it's a slow process I'm haven't Uh, I'm kind of at a standstill right now I've done more than what you guys have seen on the videos I've done more air sealing and gotten my blower door numbers down significantly. Guys like I made some huge improvements on my blower door numbers and there's still room to improve. Uh, but that's where I'm at right now I haven't done anything else because I'm kind of waiting for ahr because I just want to get my eyes on some equipment and kind of pick a few things and see some things.

uh and kind of go from there. but yeah, I'm um I'm looking forward to the information that the Haven monitor gives me and stuff. so I'm curious to see I I wanted to put it in and let it run for a while before I change my system because I kind of wanted to see you know what what numbers it was going to give me I also wanted to um to put uh I wanted to get the air things uh indoor air quality monitors too. uh again, no affiliation with either one of them.

but I wanted to get the air things indoor air quality monitors too because that one monitors for Radon I've always been curious like I know radon's not big in my part of the country but it is still existent from my research and stuff. if you're interested in doing more load calculations and stuff, start looking at some of the building science groups and you can get some good ideas. Currently for software like for my house, the software that we're using to do the load calculation and stuff is called uh. Quick Model Quick Model is the software that we're using and it links and it'll do the load calculations and do the manual J and all that stuff too using other softwares. So huh? let's see reading in here. Um, what kind of stuff, All right? So uh, talked about court tape rescue belts. That was something I did a short on yesterday too. Uh, rescue belts I Went out on an emergency service call for an exhaust fan not working for their Friars They had a loose belt severely damaged belt and I didn't have one.

It was a 4L 200. So I happened to have a link belt and it's it's an adjustable belt that you can make any size you want for an a grooved pulley and I put the link belt on there I call it a rescue belt got him up and running. A bunch of people said why didn't I just go to the auto parts store Why didn't I go to Harbor Freight Why didn't I go to Uh Tractor Supply Why did The Blob of all these different places right just because I I only like to buy a certain type of belt I buy an ax belt the cogged belts I get them from my normal supply house in that situation I Didn't want to be there any longer than I had to I got them up and running with the link belt and then I was able to send another technician back there today, replaced all the belts and left spares and we were able to put in ax belts that are cogged that'll last a lot longer I Don't like leaving the rescue belts on there. One of the main reasons I Know that the rescue belts if they're sized right and it's the right one.

some of them they get a little wide um and I realize there's a B Bell but I'm not using the b ball, but sometimes there's there's pulleys and the rescue belt sit a little thick and I'm Tyler thank you very much for that. Tyler Okay, um, for those that are watching on other platforms, there's people super chatting, they're donating to the stream and it's on. YouTube So um, so the rescue belts. Here's the thing: I Know they last because I've left them in things. But here's the problem when you go back three months later and there's a rescue belt on there and you need to change it.

What size is it? It's a pain in the butt when you have to try to figure out what size a rescue belt is after the fact. So I don't like leaving them on I like putting them on and then going back with the proper belts and then being done with it. plus the rescue belts. they're really expensive.

I think my cost on, uh, like a six or seven foot section is like a hundred and twenty dollars or something like that. Like they're expensive, right? So what I do is I will put them on there I'll get them through the weekend. I'll charge them just a fee that's not 120. I'll just charge them a small small fee on there and then I just keep reusing the belt and I just throw it back in my truck and then go put the right belts on.

and then when I got to get them through it, do the same thing like I keep turbo. uh, start capacitors and run capacitors by Amrad, the multi capacitors, whatever Turbolytic 200 and the Turbolytic 50 which is the start capacitor. Did you know that Turbo Amrad makes a universal start capacitor that you can make go to hundreds of different start caps? Yeah, they do. It's really cool.

So anyways, when I put those on, they're just temporary. I put them on there, get them through the weekend, charge the customer a fee, and then go back with the right starting components as much as I can. So rescue belts for me are just temporary. If they're not temporary for you, that's okay.

it's just. you know that's just how I float Man, that's how I float Um so I wanted to tell you guys something and I'm not doing this to brag. um I mentioned something on the overtime show I was actually just going through my emails and I just have to say this is the kind of stuff and I encourage you guys to do this too. Okay, I was on the HVAC overtime show and I have multiple screens right here and I have my email up and I got an email during the HVAC overtime show and I read the email like real quick while someone was talking and I looked down.

I Go! Oh my gosh guys! this was the coolest email. So then I read it to the live stream. What had happened was I had a teacher. he's a special needs teacher.

Uh, he teaches classes with special needs kids and he had a young kid I think I think he the the kid's name was Cole Okay, um, who is autistic and um, that does. There's nothing I mean I Honestly think I might be slightly autistic. I mean there's a lot of that. There's several different spectrums of it.

but anyways. um, there's high functioning autistic people too. and I know there's autistic people I actually know of one for sure that works full-time in HVAC Very interesting. But anyways, I'm going off on a tangent right? So this this this teacher emailed me and he said he was blown away because they have an autistic uh kid named Cole that you know has troubles and difficulties.

but one day he came in and he told him hey, you know and explain to the teacher how an air conditioner worked or refriger. Walking cooler worked right and the teacher was like and I'm paraphrasing the teacher's email but the teacher was like oh my gosh like I couldn't believe he. He explicitly explained how a walk-in cooler worked and the teacher was blown away, right? But that's interesting how certain spectrums on the autistic scale work because people are hyper focused about certain things, right? Kind of making you wonder about me, right? But anyways, um, teacher reached out to me, said this kid loves my videos, watches my videos from beginning to end. all this different and it would just it.

It made me feel good, it really did. And that email came at the perfect time because again I said a little while ago I'm going through a bunch of stuff right now, right? And when I get emails like that, they just make things so much better, right? Same thing uh Ryan Hughes from Houston HVAC he made a video uh Montage of my channel uh and it just it just hit me at the right time man. so that was a great video Ryan if you're watching I I Still can't get over how awesome that was. but anyways.

um so the teacher reached out to me and said this autistic kid loves my videos so I was like dude and the teacher said Can can he get your autograph right and that one hits me hard because I don't like autographs it's just weird to me. So um but I reached out to the teacher and I was like dude, give me your address and tell me what size shirt this kid wears I sent the kid a hat, a shirt, a bunch of stickers and then I wrote them a little note and then the teacher sent me a picture back. dude with the kid with all this stuff like gosh, that was the coolest thing. So I'm not telling you guys that to brag like I'm telling you that because remember right, people are always going through things and you never know.

This is what I'm talking about at the end of my videos when I tell those things at the end of my videos like be kind to one another, remember I'm talking to myself. All right. I'm talking to myself I Really am and I'm hoping that you guys get something from it too. But remember, be kind to one another.

you never know what someone else is going through and sometimes just a simple email to someone with some encouraging words or a thank you or whatever can make their day. I'm not talking about me I'm talking about other people you never know. so remember to be kind to one another and pay it forward. It it it it pays back so much, right? All right? Um, all right. so I talked about that I got a I got a sheet in front of me of things that I want to talk about. so that's why I always go through these ah, you know, uh, talking about um again while I'm getting personal and talking about whatever something else that I struggle with too is I have to remind myself and I'm saying this so that way maybe you guys get something from it too because the way that my brain works is really weird I tend to hyper focus on things and I I tend to be very calculated and overthink a lot of things. and for the longest time I used to get so angry with people because nobody thought like me and people couldn't do things the way that I expected things to be done.

but something that I realized is it took me a while going to therapy and all that stuff to realize that like my brain just works differently and it's just it's okay to you know for people not to do things. So remember that kind of stuff too. You know when when you assume that people like for instance, I remember saying to one of my employees, that's common sense. one time being angry at him and he like looked back at me and said it's not so common to me and it's like touche good point, you know.

So again, slow down. Remember when you snap back at someone when you when you're talking to someone, they don't always think like you think. So remember that. Okay, um I already answered that question talked about the software I'll talk about it again too.

Currently right now I'm using Intuit Field Service Management I'm kind of considering changing Softwares, but it works. It's functional, it does everything I need to do one thing I will say about Intuit Field Service Management used it for over 10 years and I can probably count on one hand how many times the software has had an outage. It's it's got to be less than five times in like 10 plus years. That's amazing.

Okay, so that's one thing that really makes me think when I'm considering changing Softwares is how Dependable my current software has been for so many years. So, but I am considering checking out some other softwares for sure. Uh, let's see what else. What do I think of in Viroguard Systems In Viroguard refresh my memory I know that I know in viral Garden enviroguard leading worldwide Authority I don't know what Empire regard is Yeah, you'll have to give me some I've heard that phrase before and by regard.

but I don't know what it is Man, you'll have to enlighten me on what envirogard is. Uh Southeast Texas what's up Kevin How you doing man? All right? Um okay go into my things to talk about um Francis had mentioned in my videos. uh in one of my comments he you know he says he watched a lot of my videos and he wasn't talking crap. He he likes watching the videos and he appreciates them and stuff.

but he was really curious how my customers think about how I don't have everything in my vehicle at all times and how I have to leave for a supply house to get certain parts. So back to when I started and when I was very young in this trade it was what just happened. Oh I hit the I hit a button on my my Uh mixer and it made the volume and my headphones go up. All of a sudden it scared me for a minute.

Um so I used to always try to keep tons of stuff on my Vans but I stopped I started taking everything out of my Vans and I cut my stock way down. Okay so what do my customers think about it I mean it is what it is. Here's the deal when I buy something and keep it on my vehicle and store it in my vehicle and it sits in there for two years. That is money that has been wasted.

Yes, in two years, I'm gonna sell it. and yes, I'm probably gonna make a little bit more of a profit because the odds are it's gone up in price. You know that kind of stuff, right? So you know I'm gonna make more money. But I could have used that money in the past.

It was wasted money just sitting there. It was wasted inventory and then taxes and all that different stuff. It gets to be a legal nightmare, right? I keep the minimum amount of stuff on my truck. So lately I keep the stuff that I use all the time.

I Try to keep Overstock down. What happens when you keep Overstock it rolls around in the back of your truck. It just gets smashed in the back of your shelves and you end up throwing it away because it's trashed, it's worn out, it's been rolling around, the packaging's gone. Try to cut all that stuff out of my trucks and we keep the minimal amount of stock in our trucks.

but we still have a lot of stuff, but we keep minimal amount. improves our gas mileage, improves the wear and tear on our vehicles, and we're not spending as much money on random junk in our truck. So I'm very slow to buy new stuff just because there's a new brand of temperature controller out there. and oh, it seems to be the bee's knees, right? Nah.

I tend to just push what I have because it works I'm a lazy person at heart so I keep a lot of OEM parts in my truck because I don't want to have to think too hard when I'm changing a temperature control I just put back what belongs in there, set it where it's supposed to be and call it a day. Yeah, I could put in a digital ke2 temp plus defrost, but it's just Reinventing the wheels sometimes. So anyways, all right. Um, what else we got going on in here in turn cuts my overhead down.

That is correct for sure. Um, but yeah, what do my customers think about it? they're just gonna have to deal with it I don't mean to stand on a high horse and expect them to, you know, bow down to me? No. but I don't carry a lot of stuff in my trucks I just carry what I need to carry in my truck. So um, a viewer made a comment about a walk-in freezer repair that I did.

again. very nice guy and you know he didn't mean anything by it, but he was just kind of curious because it was a really old walk-in freezer and the equipment was very old and I think I changed an expansion valve a bunch of parts on it and he was like dude, why didn't you change the equipment you know, because the customer didn't want to Here's the deal I don't go to my customers and say you have to do this. No, What I do is when I diagnose equipment I go to my customer and I say these are the parts that are bad. This is what it's going to cost to replace those parts.

And here's a price. If you're interested in doing so to replace the equipment, what do you want to do? and I let them make the decisions right and then they choose to repair it because it's 500 cheaper. Well, Here's your sign because then I repair it and it breaks down six months later and then I get to sell them some more parts. So I'm not over there to preach to my customers I give them the information and I let them make the decisions.

I will give recommendations like hey, I really suggest that you consider replacing this equipment. Sometimes they do it, sometimes they don't but it's their decision to make. So yeah, I sell them a lot of parts but they want those parts I'm not I'm not out here now. Another thing to understand too is I work on critical equipment walk-in freezers, walk-in coolers and it goes down on the weekend and it has a bad compressor.

Yeah, the equipment's trash, but guess what? I can't change a compressor, well, a condensing unit by myself or convert a system over and put a new evaporator in by myself. That's a job that requires planning and takes time so I might have to change a compressor because I can do that by myself. I can go put a compressor in it on the weekend and yeah, it's going to cost a bunch of money and I'm still going to recommend that they replace the equipment, but again, that's on the customer. that's not me.

Okay, um uh oh. this is a very interesting name and I don't know how to pronounce it. n-a-v-j-o-t navot navat maybe? um very interesting I like that name I'd really like to know how it's pronounced. Um, very very cool.

I Like unique names. my children both have unique names or unique spellings. Uh, that's something my wife and I both have always loved is just things that are unique. So I was like interesting names.

but anyways, he asked a question how much refrigerant like? how does he calculate and he was talking about my Intelligent Heatcraft video that I just did. He was saying how do you calculate how much refrigerant to put into a walk-in cooler? Well, it depends on the design of the equipment. So the long answer is it depends on what size refrigerant uh, piping it has liquid and suction. It depends on what size the condenser is and what type of materials it's made out of tube and fin or aluminum.

micro Channel Um and it depends on the uh, the the controls and components in the system. like. There's a lot of answers to that. But the short answer is lean on the manufacturer of the equipment, make sure it's designed properly, make sure that the the, the condensing unit, and the receiver are sized appropriately for the line set length and the evaporator size, and then your system should hold the correct amount of refrigerant in the receiver.

You can tend to add more refrigerant than the system needs, but if the system was designed properly, if you filled the system up to three quarters of the receiver when the system was pumped down, you theoretically should have enough refrigerant because that's the maximum amount of refrigerant that you can safely put into a system. But I Understand, that's more than the manufacturer probably recommends. Okay, so because oftentimes we oversize our receivers for whatever reasons, or you might pick an off-the-shelf receiver that holds an extra five pounds of gas or something like that, right because of what you need for the system. so you don't always just want to go and fill up a receiver, but you know you would.

It would really depend on the internal volume of the liquid line, the suction line, and the capacity of the system and the size. I mean So hopefully I Answered your question with a bunch of other random questions. So um, let's see what else we got going on in the chat. Uh Transit Biker says, what were those ducks for that beer walking in front of the evaporator? Um I answered that a few minutes ago, but I'll answer it again.

It's okay. So in the front of the evaporator, those were booster fans and those booster fans blew cold air into the glycol lines. So they they have beer taps right on the other side of the wall from the beer walk-in and they have a PVC Chase running out connecting to a metal Chase And there's tap handles connected all inside there. and the beer lines run through those chases.

And so it's a poor man's glycol unit. They take the discharge air from the evaporator coil, they push it through a tiny restrictive blower into the Chase and then it comes out the other end and dumps right back into the walk-in box. It's just to keep the beer lines cold from point A to point. B So poor man's glycol unit? okay, um, Norma had made a comment about a video where I changed the compressor and he said, you know he appreciated the video, but he said it was incorrect and that I should never use old refrigerant when I'm changing a bad compressor and I'm going to argue against that Norma Okay, there's nothing wrong with the refrigerant.

If it's not contaminated and it doesn't have acid in it, you can reuse the refrigerant and it's
