Hey Pool Owners: do you know what's secretly causing High Cyanuric Acid in your pool? Your Cya should be between 30 and 50 parts per million, but if your levels are consistently too high, your chlorine is to blame. Stabilize chlorine like chlorine. tablets contain small amounts of cyanuric acid, and that's cya. lingers in your water once it's added.

The more you keep adding stabilized chlorine, the higher your Cya will rise. So if your Cya is too high, stop adding tablets for a bit and switch to unstabilized chlorine like liquid chlorine. Follow us at swim! University for more pool care tips throughout the year:.

Pool stores will often tell you to drain and refill the pool when there is too much CYA. I think that can be skipped by just using liquid chlorine\bleach.

I use to work for a major pool company in fl and they had us pushing the heck out of these tablets

I had customers water cya test at over 100

I wpuld tell them take the tablets out and go on liquid chlorine
I cant tell you how many argenta with managemt i got into about this

    These tablets contain tri chlor
This drops the ph, and! Tri chlor damages the gelcoat on fiberglass pools!

The chaulkiness on the walls of fiberglass pools is the paint/gelvoat voming off!

Buy unstabilized tablets to prevent this.

Right when I thought I had everything dialed in. This is the first time I hear of CYA. (not that I've looked that hard)

This might be a dumb question but do you add chlorine tablets or liquid chlorine? I add both I add 2 3 inch chlorine tablets my pool about 9000 gallons. And I always have clean blue sparkling water however I have at the bottom of the pool of used a handheld pool cleaner it works well but it seems like I always get dirt at the bottom of the pool even after I clean it. And I don't have trees near it what could be the problem. Are you in Orleans ?

Thanks for the tip! As a new pool owner, Iโ€™d like to say I really appreciate your easy to follow videos/course.

I ran across the TFPC method where you exclusively use liquid chlorine/bleach. It also calls for higher FC levels than normal because of the relationship with CYA. What is your opinion on this method?
