Another thing I've seen in more urban areas we don't see this so much at you know where I live but I have seen where some cities they're having to install these. They almost look like cages around the outdoor units and they've been doing this for years but it just again it seems like we're seeing more of that now. So that way folks can't just you know, steal the outdoor unit. I've actually heard stories where guys would go to houses and install a unit so it's brand new, brand spanking new unit and come back the next day to finish up the installation or to do the startup and the outdoor unit's completely gone.
Somebody in the middle of the night you know took it which is so crazy to me that you know I guess thieves will steal anything right?.

Oh yeah so this happend to a woman in the dead heat of the summer, she was going thru cancer. Felt terrible. This was a few years ago. It was in the country kinda. Anyways i did the install for free (crawlspace) supply house worked with us and gave us the equipment. It made the news and everything. We used to do a freebie once a year. Just happend to notice a post on fb. Did some calling around and made it happen 🙂

We have cages welded to curbs after units were stolen 3 times. Units are barely serviceable anymore
Where I'm from…..the poor black folks will retake a trash bag…..then get to the freon line. They will cut a small slice in the freon line and let it freon air flow out. They then take the trash bags and fill it with Freon and then the huff the freon and it gets them stupid high for a few minutes. It's sickening. Gas stations will have the freon theives all strung out and sleeping on the sidewalk and the homes all around there have cages on the a/c, bars on the windows and cameras everywhere. They make it suck a promising community to want to live within.
