I Know I'm going to get the flex duct taters, but when you install it properly, it should work just perfect. Right out of curiosity. Have you ever heard or read the instructions on flex duct that you're supposed to stretch it tight for a certain you know, couple minutes before you actually take it into the building? And it's not the jacket, it's the actual liner. the plastic liner inside.

We're stretching it out to get the memory out of it. So I'm curious you ever heard that before?.

well dang ive installed a lot of flex the past couple years lol

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars SealsTech says:

Every residential crew ive seen will stretch it out and mach up the way it will run in the home and prep joints and do everything leaving it on the ground a while before pulling it into the attic like a crab molting its shell.

Difficult to do when you by your self. Get a home depot volunteer. Definitely roll back like long sleeves and pull the inner black tube. Grip at least 2 – 3 metal coils when stretching. Don't use duct tape to hold outer insulation material. Always have decent panduit gun or k band zip tye gun if you are googling where to buy. Good luck it's a fun field if you can travel to work and don't have kids. Service area Ottawa??

My company stretches it by having 2 guys pull it at the ends. We gain a few feet every time Are you in Orleans ?

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Poobutt says:

It’s called scrim rookie Service area Orleans??

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars D M says:

If you don't stretch it it will collapse and reduce airflow.

Does it look like I care, I’m taking it up in the bag and cutting it open upstairs 🤡

aw man i hate doing ductwork. but yes thats exactly what we do. work for a commercial company and its pretty rare for us to do ductwork though.

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ronaldinho Gaucho says:

Pull the piece of tape off the end too at the beginning.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars wkenealey says:

If I've learned anything, it's that the installers don't read the install instructions on anything.

And yes, flex duct works just fine, you just have to size it and install it properly.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tommy Mein says:

It’s written right on the side of the box that it comes in. Problem is that most of the guys in our industry can’t read or don’t bother reading installation instructions that are provided with the product. FJB Are you in Nepean ?

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joseph Lieberman says:

As far as my own home is concerned, i remove all flex duct and blown in garbage insulation, replaced with sheet metal duct.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars khrwjt says:

Every non-HVAC worker that goes into my attic steps on the flex and crushes it down and air flow to the vent in my bedroom is gone. I call the HVAC guys and they climb in there and open it back up. Then the plumbers, roofers, electricians, crawl around in there and crush it back down again. It's maddening. I am considering replacing with rigid sheet metal ducts.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Andres Rodas says:

    Yup

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JWP says:

Do it every day, on multi family homes/ apartments. As someone who does this all day, you get your partner to grab the opposite end and grab the outside liner, insulation and inner liner and tug it good, then your all good, unless the trusses are fucked.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Carlos Nunez says:

Stretching duct reduces friction, the lining inside the duct loses air flow if it’s crinkly

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Pawsum Gaming says:

Still doesn't stop the itching afterwards though…

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alex Golson says:

60 lbs for 60 seconds I think. I always attach it to the boot/elbow and pull tight for a second then attach.

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars William Gildea says:

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars °F@T@L° says:

    Flex duct is garbage

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Shanahan says:

Now that we've gone to an R8 you have to stretch them out and let them grow…

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Teeg 327 says:

I never knew they say to do that I’ve always just done it cause it’s easier than in some shitty as attic or crawl space

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars kurtis sterling says:

Dont forget to have the new guy grab the duct stretcher 😂😂

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Travis Hamilton says:

I have the same conversation all the time. And I always tell them if it's installed properly like it's supposed to it will work just as good

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars D C says:

Installing it properly is only using 3 feet. Not cutting 8 take offs from a plenum and running an entire box of flex to every single register… Service area Barrhaven??

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeffrey Whitlatch says:

You've got to stretch it out. The inner liner can bunch up and restrict it.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars AllTattedUp13 says:

Anybody else start itching as soon as u seen this 😂😂

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bunstheman78 says:

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jake Griffin says:

    Flex duct everywhere in fl

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Zac Cody says:

Yes I have read the instructions lol but when you think about it of course you want them pulled taught or it's going to kink and your airflow gonna be garbage

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars RaMaLaDingDong says:

I’ve been taught to have one person on each side pulling on the inner liner part

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Logan Kollatt says:

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars josh coates says:

Stretch it out I’m im zip tieing it and hanging it bam Service area Nepean??

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars The Watchers Of The Wood says:

For my own system I use rigid pipe taped joints and 2 layers of insulation. For everyone else break out the flex duct! Lol. Actually I just like the look of the rigid pipe as the space is used better.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars jpadgr8 says:

I’ve been doing that for decades 😂

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Fox Nakamori says:

i learned to stretch the flex prior to installation when we converted our house to central hvac, at first i thought it was strange that it called for that, but it made it soo much easier to install after getting the memory out of the inner ducting

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars PotentialHVAC says:

Thats a good idea but i usually strech the liner (bladder as me and a buddy call it) after making the first connection and slipping the insulation/jacket over what ever fitting im attching to. The extra bladder kinda helps slip the insulation/jacket around fittings like 90's, boots, wyes, etc

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars HVAC Shinobi says:

It looks like your are using R-6? Why not just go with R-8? Are you in Ottawa ?

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bphc ⚙️ says:

  50. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars scoobydooshaggy93 says:
