So I am well. I was doing some solder weld training patching this poor coil like a zillion times which, by the way you can see it's patches, looked pretty good, even when done by a rank amateurs, but I'm actually here to drop off this drain pants. So I've got a train drain pan one of these guys, I'm not sure which one go find Eric world's nicest today, I'm still jealous about that. So is it actually a crack drain, pan yeah like for real? What do we got here? Not sure? That's in him! Well, probably, was dripped out the bottom, because there was no tension on it whatsoever.
Mm-Hmm. So somebody looks like somebody did some kind of job on this in the past. You think no idea, I think so good old train Rain Man. This is actually a pretty easy application, sweat this coil, it's so small.
Oh you just lifted it out of the drain. Pan there's two screws on the back, so if you don't have some sort of, I showed this tool before matter. Okay, you don't have some sort of one of these. Getting these two out of the backs.
Gon na be fun, got it okay, so you just took the two out of the front and slip that in there take the tray of the bank and just lifted her out yeah oil, this small, it's easy, most people, don't think of this too, when you got Our filthy drain, pan most guys, are like. Oh, we got to pull the coil to clean the drain pan. Well, what I've done a lot of cases is pulled. Two blower pull these panels off.
Like you see I'll, take the screws out of the front, maybe the ones out of the back, but you could usually get some clear tubing under there in a vacuum and you can clean under it. And then you can lean over the blower and you can get the back where the blower was you're gon na be where the blower was. I have never thought of doing that. I would have been one to definitely pump down the unit to do this job.
Well, this small I was like this is gon na be easy. If it was a bigger coil, I might think about like getting like a strap and grabbing. You know hook to hook points I might have to add somewhere up here. You know and then lift the strap up, I'm gon na watch.
You do this in just about every application. You can get the coil to slide forward a little, and if you want to look in there to decide the quote for with that far, you can get right to the back of the pan. No problem, you got plenty of room to work and blowers come out. Pretty easy, I mean, I guess it really depends on how much play you have on your copper.
I mean so in this case. We it's kind of an ideal situation, because we've got this big right, well, yeah, and it gives you a lot of extra play. So if you had one I'm just imagining, if you had one coming out of a platform top or something - and it was just like all really tight - that might be yeah wait for call all you really need is a couple inches and you can get what I Use is the clear tubing that comes with condensate pumps and when you take these screws out and lift, even if you just lift up the front of the coil, you can snake it under there mm-hmm and even if almost all the way back. Even if it's already back really, we could still snake that down in there it's a little bit easier when you can see what you're doing, but you can get a drain pan pretty clean that way without pumping a unit down yeah, good old Trane air handler notorious Check valve Victoria signs, it yeah Radley check valves. Well, we don't know about that down here, non heat pump and you don't know about ratalie check valves. We never run it in heat. Oh good point, I guess it isn't mad. I mean, I guess it could still I've never really had a customer complaining about right right.
You can still haven't bypass and that's eating or something but yeah. That's always the issue with the trains. Is that and generally the rattling check valves on the condenser? That's when you use a magnet kit, well that was that was exceptionally informative and exceptionally boring, but here's the short videos, you.
How do you check for a cracked drain pan on a horizontal application
What is- one of these? Are you in Barrhaven ?
I want to know about the magnet trick for the rattling check valves. I have often heard the rattling after the unit cycles off.
Fast forward thru the talking not the actual work!
But Thanks for vid
Really good video. Would like to see some more 👍👍
what type of metal the frame is made out of on 2001 Goodman copper coil? Thanks Are you in Ottawa ?
How the hell do I find my drain pan??? I swear to God I can't find it and I swear I'm not stupid! My last house it was in the garage on top now I have a different unit and I swear to God I can't find this pan! To soak up the water
why would you fast forward through the part everyone wanted to see
thrilling yet numbing
fixing to do this right now because of this video. Thanks. It's a newer five ton so I'm I'm going to go grab a ratchet strap now to see if I can pull it out. It's for a Warehouse break room so it's a very dirty environment.
Mine is in a downflow application but this method still seems to work all around so far, maybe even better because the bottom screws are easier to get to.
Oh shit is that Eric M
Ooooohh I was the one to find that crack
Been there done that
I would have pumped unit and pulled coil as well. Awesome video! I'll definitely check to see if I can do that my next drain pan clean or change. Thanks for another informative video!
Nice work..thanks for the tip. Vinyl tubing for the win. Service area Nepean??
What’s that flashlight he is using?
That tech is legit. Guy literally has almost any trick to the trade.
That was not Boring at All. Nice vid.👍
This tech deserves a 👏👏👏
Thanks for those great tips to save time while changing a drain pan.
