Just because my evening is ruined, i don't want to open a supply house for something silly like this plus. If the supply house doesn't have it, i don't know the part numbers trying to talk them over the phone to figure out. You know over the it's just silly i'd, rather just go in there tomorrow and when they're open, and you know just grab what i need off the shelf. Instead of trying to have someone come in to tell me that they don't have it.

It's a little dirty, though fans are all running ice cream. Is liquid. We've got a thermostat back up there. We're gon na see what the thermostat is set for and then we're gon na jump on the roof, so the thermostat is set for about negative 10..
Everything looks good up here, so yeah, except for that plastic in the evaporator. This is my walk-in freezer right here. So actually doesn't look too dirty, it's dirty, but not horrendous, opening it up. This is what i see right there.
Look at that. That's lovely busted fan blade, huh and 442. I don't think the supply houses are open anymore. They all are starting to close early because of this cobit crap, but we're gon na open it up.
We might have to run a hose on this thing temporarily through the night or something man. It is still really warm outside today. It's at least 100 right now. It has not cooled down all day, all right, uh sequence of operation, on this thing right here, power's going to come in through a fuse.
You got these two fuses right here. You got one here, one here power's going to come in it's going to go through the high pressure control through the low pressure control, then to the compressor contactor. This little time, delay relay is no longer in the circuit, so we don't go omit that out of the picture so long as we have power at the fuses. We should be sending power through this guy right here.
So, let's test those two fuses and see if we got power all right, let's uh just for giggles go ahead and test three phase. Coming into the unit 210. 212 212.. We got three phase power coming into the unit, we'll go ahead and test across these two right.
Here we have 208 on the bottom 208 on the top. Nothing i'm testing across nothing, so we don't have any blown fuses. So the power is now going to the high pressure control. I'm pretty sure the high pressure control is going to be tripped because of that bad condenser fan motor and then, after the high pressure control it's going to the low and then it goes to the compressor.
Contactor, this unit happens to have a dual pressure control, so both of them are in the same, and we've got an open pressure, control, meaning we're off on high head pressure, go ahead and kill the power. We know that we got a bad condenser fan motor um. I'm going to disconnect that fan motor from the picture and fan blade and then we're going to see if the other one runs and if it does then we're gon na mister on this guy through the night that way it operates, and then we'll come back tomorrow With the blades uh i'd rather not have to open a supply house for something silly like this. I had to run the hose like all the way downstairs because they don't have a ladder up on the roof, but that's good. We got water now, here's the dilemma. I got to make sure that they understand whatsoever. They cannot shut off this hose. So i took the key with me: i'm gon na set it up here in the unit when we're done that way.
If it's not me that comes out here, we'll make sure that we put it back where it goes when we're done, but we don't want in the cooks before they leave to try to turn off the water or something things uh. It's not horrendous, but it's dirty. It's coming out nice and chewy: oh yeah, coming out nice and good all right, i'm gon na give it a good rinse and then we'll try to start it back up you like that, don't you! I can hack it up with the best of them all right. It's just on the misting, i'm gon na turn it on this whole unit.
We're gon na change that motor too. The brackets busted too. Look at that bam, so we'll change them both we'll change that blade. That thing is beat down.
Man um, but i'm gon na put some gauges on there. We're gon na see if this will get us through all right. I'm waiting for everything to turn on. I look over this one has uh one bad fan motor too.
It's only running on one everything up here: plug these guys, don't do. Maintenances right looks like the head pressure is running. Fine. The sight glass is clear: i'm not going to spend a bunch of time here today when we come back tomorrow, we'll get the bracket and we'll do all that.
But when we come back tomorrow, we'll clean these condensers with cleaner, we'll change that other fan motor. I'm going to rinse everything off for now. Um these things are filthy, just there's, probably a refrigerant leak. There's oil dirt.
Whatever i don't know, uh has been a long day. I got no patience at this point, so this will get them through the night. They'll have to deal with it i'll just tell them not to shut off the water rinsed everything else off just really quickly. Tomorrow, we'll do a thorough one um.
I don't care that i'm coming back tomorrow. I still put that unit back together with all the screws. Like i wasn't, i'm gon na go ahead and take the motor and bracket with me just in case i have to send someone else. I would know what to grab, but in case i have to send someone else trying to describe the right one silly.
So this will get them through the night. You know the whole big thing is: is that just because my night, it's not really ruined it's only five o'clock, but just because my evening is ruined. I don't want to open a supply house for something silly like this plus. If the supply house doesn't have it, i don't know the part numbers trying to talk them over the phone to figure out. You know over the it's just silly i'd, rather just go in there tomorrow when when they're open - and you know just grab what i need off the shelf instead of trying to have someone come in to tell me that they don't have it all right, i'm back Today, uh it made it through the night. The walk-in freezer is down to temp, nice and cold. We're gon na go ahead and disassemble every one of these uh. I got someone else coming.
I found the bracket the blade this morning, i'm actually gon na change. Both motors in the freezer, both blades, both brackets and then we've got some motors coming for the other one that i saw. That was bad too uh. While i was here yesterday too, i noticed they have three exhaust fans that one that one and that one that aren't working so we're gon na figure that out too it's just a mess, we're gon na start by getting on the walk-in freezer disassembling it cleaning the Condenser properly, with cleaner doing the same with the other ones too, all right, i removed the other fan, motor and blade and bracket, and then we're gon na give this guy a proper clean.
With no motors that way, we can just go to town we're going to get all the dirt and muck out of this thing. This is where this wand really shines. I know i've shown this a million times because you can really get in here before we apply any of the cleaner. It doesn't matter what brand you're using you always want to soak and pre-wrench the condenser to give the condenser surface a smooth place to look at that stuff coming out when you wash it from the inside.
But you want the condenser spot to be nice and smooth and nice and wet that way. The cleaner can like flow down properly going to use the viper brightener. Now the viper brightener is safe on tube and fin condensers. It is not safe on micro, channel micro channel, you have to use the yellow venom pack because that's micro channel or the hd cleaner from refrigeration technologies, but this one is fine on these.
So of course you want to apply the cleaner from the inside and outside. I'm going to go ahead and start on the outside, i'm on the c, setting we're going to sweep from the bottom up and then just let the cleaner sit for a minute and then we'll do the same thing on the inside and then let it sit for A minute now this cleaner, you don't want to leave on too long because uh this will etch, but we got that and then now we're gon na put it on the inside here and then just let it sit. You can already see it foaming through back down in there nice and good, get it up in there. Do it over here, it's gon na be a little more difficult to get into, but it'll work all right and then we're just gon na.
Let it sit pushing the stuff all the way through getting all this playing around. They don't do a good job of uh leaving weep holes in this coil for all this cleaner to come out and stuff like it's just cooling up in there. It slowly comes out, but yeah look at that. That's insane! What's coming out of that right now, nasty nastiness still like i'm, hitting pockets of nastiness that are coming through just clean it from the inside out kind of crazy. How dirty these things can get well but anyway, think about it. Nobody's probably cleaned this coil in six months, so it's probably expected a couple screws and i was able to take off the full shroud. That thing has so much stuff like up in the top and down in the bottom. So this one required it.
Normally, we don't go this far, but lack of maintenance on this is ridiculous. So this way i can really get in here and get all this stuff out of here and get all this muck out of here too. So that way, it actually all leaves and doesn't get stuck in there. I got it all put back together.
I got the new motors and blades in i'm just trying to figure out the wiring right now to where it's going, to look pretty so um and be functional, we'll get that cleaned up and then hopefully everything else will go good, all right wires in i put Them in in a way with quick connect, so that way you can change one motor, not unhook everything, they're all secure, safe they're, not going to rub out everything's nice and tight, zip tied check rotation, real, quick. Usually, whenever i install these uh, they go the wrong rotation, so i went ahead and pre-flipped these. So if i did it right, they'll be going in the right direction and, let's see here, i think that's incorrect - that one's correct this one's not so. I need to flip this around.
Let's try this again all right now, they're, both going in the right direction, good good! The supply house didn't have the right. This is the factory oem blade notice. The hub is on the other side. This is a reverse airflow blade.
It just puts the hub on the wrong side, but they're still going in the same direction. I don't like doing that, but that's all that we could get today, so they only had one oem and then they had multiple aftermarkets. So uh 9721 we'll get a current draw on them. I know they're gon na be fine, but i got ta move all this stuff too, just in case they vibrate and falls off.
It can breathe. Now it's like oh compressor's, probably gon na, take a crap. Now it's like hey, overload, um all right, let's go ahead and there's a slight vibration, but it's not too bad all right. We're allowed to run.
Let's see we're running .42 and i'll need to check this guy and look and see what we're allowed to run. Let's see what this one's running, 0.36, okay, so that's good! All right! We're allowed to run .49 so we're good both of those are under amps and we're going to get started on this guy. Now i'm going to put some gauges on this. Actually, i know it's working because i saw it last night. We're just gon na make sure the side glass is still clear and uh we'll make sure that uh it comes down to temp and satisfies again. It was actually satisfied when i got here this morning, so it was easy enough. I did the same thing for this walk-in cooler condenser. I was going to change the motors anyway, so just pulled everything out, give it a good rinse on this side right here, rinse.
It nice and good and we'll get some cleaner on that guy too walking coolers back together, at least the shroud and everything and i'm gon na get this changing those motors. Now this one motor, i didn't even check voltage because it's locked up it doesn't even turn the other. One is also really tight, so changing both motors, but i don't have more brackets. So hopefully these ones aren't busted, so we're gon na do two motors two blades.
All right um, i got these blades on. You know something i want to point out and i've seen a lot of people comment, and i even when i started that one it had a tiny vibration. None of these blades are true. Whenever you get them, they're always bent that's just something new.
These things suck um, you could do a little bit to you - know, try to straighten them a little bit, but you're never going to win completely all right, we're getting some of the yellow venom pack on this condenser right now now remember the trick to this stuff Is is to let it sit for about five to ten minutes, just let it sit and do its magic. It will not hurt the coil whatsoever. This is micro, channel, aluminum, safe all right. We got these guys all in tied up nice and neat wires.
Aren't going to rub we're going to fire it up, check rotation. All right looks like they're, both spinning the wrong way, so these guys are really easy, like on the other one, just flip these guys around all right. It's flipped both go in the right direction. This one's vibrating, i'm gon na, have to try to tweak that blade.
That's why i said every one of these is always freaking rough. My compressor sounds like junk too. All right, we're not over amping. 0.36.
0.38 we're good. So i'm gon na try to clean up that vibration a little bit by tweaking the blade units are all running and back together, cleaned all the debris from underneath the condensing units out all the way down the drain. Um show you the level of my craziness. So first thing i do is drain out my hose and then take a towel and as you're rolling it up, wipe it down.
I can't stand a dirty hose because i don't like to throw nasty stuff on my shoulder when it's all dark and dirty. So i always clean them off before i put them away. Everything's back up and running. We even got the exhaust fans running, so i had another tech do that this one was as simple as the switch was off this one right here had a bad vfd. This particular customer doesn't fix the vfds. They just have us bypass them. We did that this one right here is 115 volt van motor and the speed controller. The little rheostat knob was bad, so we took the reason out of the picture and the fans running now.
So all of their exhaust fans are running all of their walk-ins are running. That's it walk-in freezer. I've seen it satisfy a couple times, walking cooler, no problem sight, glass, clear! So all is well. This thing's running negative 10.
It's ice cold in here ice, cream's, nice and hard customer is happy. This call came in i'd, say around 3 30. In the afternoon i was coming from about an hour and a half away. It was an emergency service call.
They said please get out there as soon as possible, walk in freezers down okay. So by the time i got to the call you know and realized what was going on. The supply houses are already closed. Now, when i went up onto the roof, you know i still go through troubleshooting procedures, always looking at everything, and even though this was an evening call, i still look at the big picture.
Okay, yes, i was frustrated. Yes, i vented some frustrations, but i never vent them to the customer. Okay, i kind of bite my tongue and just you know express them. You know, while i'm on the phone with a friend or something like that or you to the camera.
Obviously, okay, but i try to stay as professional as possible. I'm not saying i'm perfect, you know sometimes uh emotions do come out, but i try to you know, curb it as much as possible. So that way the customer understands. You know that we are here to help them in these situations.
Okay and yes, it is frustrating that you know you get an emergency service call and you have that many fan motors down uh dirty condensers, that kind of stuff it. It is kind of a bummer. You know i can't lie about that, it's a bummer, you know, but it is what it is guys. You know.
That's the way i look at it. It's just you know what they could be calling someone else, it's as easy. As that you know we we could be out of work right now, it's as easy as that, so i'm just thankful for the little bit that i do get right now, especially with these crazy times. Right now.
So when i went through the unit um, i found that we had one bad condenser fan where the blade and the brackets broken again the whole big picture thing you know going in there and just saying: oh, you just need a a blade. You know no look at it. You know the bracket was broken too, and in that situation i made a judgment. Call i looked at the other bracket and i was like man that bracket looks like crap too we're going to change them both.
So i was a, i would have changed four brackets if i could, but i could only get my hands on two of them. Okay, i was able to get all the motors okay and then, while i was working on that again, i don't ignore everything else. I listen to my ears all right. Listen to my ears. I listen to the sounds on the roof. You know this is why i say: don't wear headphones when you're up doing service calls, because, while i was working on the walk-in freezer, i noticed the walk-in cooler. Compressor sounded really rough. You know so i pop my head in there sure enough.
We have a bad condenser familiar on that too, and the customer didn't even know yet. Okay, guys the whole big picture thing again: i'm not a fan of people wearing headphones when they're not being used for hearing protection. Now it's one thing: if you work in a mechanical room where you got to have hearing protection, then so be it, you got to do what you got to do, but when you're on a roof you know lose the headphones because you get to see other things. I was at this service call, it was late in the evening and i was able to generate half a day for two guys worth of work by just going up on the roof and using my senses.
I walked up there. I looked at what i was supposed to look at. I found a bad fan motor on the walk-in cooler. I noticed all the condensers were dirty and then, as i was walking to put my hose up there, i noticed hey, there's three of these exhaust fans that aren't working.
You know so the whole big picture thing bring everything to the customer's attention and you know, even though this customer doesn't do preventative maintenances right now. Yeah, that's frustrating, but at the same time i understand times are tight casual dining in general, even before the whole covet thing, casual dining has been hurting for the longest time. Okay, i i'm not the kind of guy that just goes in there and says this is a multi-billion dollar corporation. You know they deserve to pay or they need to pay me every.
You know. No, it's not like that. I look at it from a perspective of a business owner and i say you know what i struggle as a business owner. So does this customer? Yes, this is a giant corporation, but still it's all about numbers, okay and um.
So you know i get why they don't do preventative maintenances, it's still frustrating, but i get it okay. Inevitably it's not really my decision anyways again with that whole mindset. You know they can call someone else, you know, so i don't want them to call someone else. I want them to call me.
I want to be that guy, that's there for them over and over and over again. Okay, it's not worth it to try to rip off the customer for me because you know if i made you know, let's just say i made an extra 10 000 on this service call right. It's still not worth it, because i want to continue to work for this customer for the next 20 years. So you know trying to rip them off for pennies.
Now is not going to help me in the future. You get where i'm going with that. So got the unit cleaned up. Okay made.
Some judgment calls cleaned the condenser. You know. Even while i was cleaning it, i noticed it wasn't coming as clean as i wanted to so i pulled the whole shroud off i kind of looked, and i said you know what there's only like six screws, just pull the whole shroud off and then, when i Went to go clean, the walk-in cooler, it was so much easier, just pulled the whole shroud off. Okay, uh changed two fan motors on the walk-in cooler, and then we also cleaned the other uh micro channel condenser. That one was fine, but we, when we cleaned that too, we pulled the condenser fan motors out because on those micro channels the water goes right through them and it hits. You know the fan motors and everything and i'd rather not create a bigger problem. So we just removed the condenser fan motors on the micro channel one i didn't show it on video, but we put quick connect fittings there. So that way, the next guy.
When he comes to clean those things boom, just unplugs, it doesn't have to worry about wiring. You know slaps the motors out, cleans it and puts them back in okay. The big picture. Diagnosis thing is really important guys.
It's not my thing. I didn't invent it. It's just that whole mindset of take care of the customer, and hopefully the customer is going to take care of you again. I want to continue to work for this customer for the next 20 years, so i'm going to give them the best service that i know how to it's, not the best service ever i'm sure other people can do better, but it's the best service that i know How to uh, you know within reason, and you know i try to keep them as happy as possible - all right try to keep them operating for the least amount of money, but also for me to still be profitable at the same time.
Okay, um. I really really appreciate you guys taking the time to watch these videos. I want to remind you guys, um, you know that uh these videos. I do these the way that i like to.
I beat to the tune of my own drum okay. I do have partners that i work with um. You know the partners that i work with. They don't dictate anything about my videos.
They don't tell me you have to show this. You have to show that that's not how i operate. Okay, the things that i show in my videos are because i want to show them all right. I really really appreciate the people that do work with me, but i just got to make that clear, because i see some feedback in the comments sometimes and uh and i'm not bothered by it.
I mean i read it and it's like huh what the heck. You know, but again this is my channel. I do it the way that i want to do it and the whole purpose of these videos. The reason why i started them was from my own employees, and then i decided to make them public, and then it turned into this machine that it's become okay, but still the backbone of this channel is videos for my employees.
So keep that in mind when you see me doing something a particular way: it's because i'm showing my employees the way that i want to do things at our company. Okay, i do realize that there's a lot of people watching these also another bit of feedback that i get in my videos is how come. I won't explain everything how come. I don't show step-by-step processes on how to do this, and how do that. This is not a diy channel, nor will it ever be a diy channel. This channel was started for my employees. I made the videos public to try to help other service technicians with the little bit of knowledge that i have okay, and i realize that people that aren't service technicians watch these videos and are curious, and i try to answer those questions as much as possible. But i will never make do-it-yourself videos and no offense to the people that want to try to do the work themselves.
That's great. I understand, there's some people that are super intuitive and that are going to try to do that. I find it a lot easier and also things like the refrigeration technologies products, the viper products, the venom packs. I struggle to find those in a lot of my supply houses now there's one particular supply house, allied refrigeration in my area, that does a really good job of carrying some of refrigeration technologies products and if those of you guys are in southern california, check out allied Refrigeration, they have a ton of refrigeration technologies products, they do a really good job and every time i get an opportunity, i try to pick them up as much as possible. But what i do find is some of the other supply houses. You know they struggle to bring them in and i wish they would and i bring it to people's attention, but you know, unfortunately, it's higher corporate level decisions that are made. Okay, i like refrigeration technologies products even before i started working with them. They're, a local company in southern california, they're a family-owned business. They have good values, they don't push snake oils, okay, they're a great company. They just have good values.
I've been down there. A couple times met john pastarello recently mike pastarello john sun. I've met i'm sorry but they're, just a great great company, and i really do like to support them so again before they were even a partner in my channel, okay, i supported their products, so i suggest you guys do the same too um. I've watched about all of your videos right now I've went through lindsey cooper refrigeration in tx I'm from Alabama but I like what you show and how you explain stuff there is alot of videos I've tried to watch but I'll watch 10 sec of it and then I'll stop and go to your videos. All in all keep up the good work and hope to watch more newer videos .

You should see the Shi^ in my realm. All the condensers wearing afghans of hair, dust and grease. Residential is just as bad to a point. PM has been eliminated since March and it is having consequences. I hate particularly clogged condensate drains, in homes and on RTU's. Brazing with nitrogen is basically ignored and my preaching is ignored. Angry customers are funny when they attack the installers that do the B.S> in the first place. I get sent to clean up the mess. If I own my own biz in future I wouldn't operate like this. Are you in Nepean ?
I don't work in the industry, in fact far from it as I am a technician in the semiconductor industry but your videos are entertaining and informative. As a home owner it's a huge benefit having some information about how an ac operates so that if a technician comes to service or fix my home ac I can understand what they are talking about when they say something needs to be replaced and why. Also honestly seeing these videos if I was in southern California and wanted to look into a job in HVAC I would definitely want to work for someone like you I can see in your videos that you care for what you work on and are thorough in your troubleshooting and repair, not leaving your customer with a half assed repair.
These old units look so easy to work on! My everyday is Multi systems, GHP’s etc! Would love to work on some of these older units, thanks for the upload

Hey, I'm from the other side of the planet and an electrotechnical systems planer as well as an electrician. Given that we are "standard/norm central" there is a lot of stuff in your videos that gets me to stare in disbelieve but I'm also learning a craptonne about AC. I totally agree that you should not do step-by-step instructions but tbh people will to it anyway. Over here in Germany you are forbidden to DIY electrics by law, yet people still show up at my place and ask how to do it. I used to tell them that I'm not allowed to and therefore wont tell them till the day that I've seen the obituary for a dude that asked me the day before. Since then I started to tell people that they aren't allowed to do it (by law), will loose all their insurance claims in case something happens and that I don't encourage them doing it themselves but will still tell them how to do this particular thing the right way bc I don't want them to get hurt or die like the other guy. Most ask when we could send someone after that, some still do it themselves but hopefully the right way. Anyway I love your videos. Keep up the great work in both jobs 😉 and have a great day/weekend.

So is it pulling air through the coil towards the compressor? I would think it should push air through the coil so it helps cool the compressor fan motor section. Are you in Orleans ?
