Okay guys, the Fourth Annual Symposium Welcome to another table with some more friends talking about what's going on here. Uh, you guys don't actually need an introduction with our group, but go ahead you're here. Tell us who you are and why you came to the Symposium this year I'm Jason with the Esco group I'm the Director of Industry Standards and Relations and I have with me Eugene Silverstein I am the Director of Technical Education and Standards at the Esco group. All right! Jason And we're also partners in crime with the co-authors of Cengage Learning's Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology title yes, better known as Direct Me yeah, that's right.

better known as the Rack Manual. So uh yeah, we're honored to have you guys here. It's pretty cool you guys are actually supporting what we're doing here and giving back. and uh, because you care about the industry and that's obvious, but um, thank you I appreciate that.

So uh, how's it been so far? This is great. The attendance is great, the attendees are great. I Can tell you that there's uh, what we see here is a lot of dedication to continuing education, to furthering the trade, to making things better to. There's a I'll say the theory if you will of leave the industry better than you found it okay and I believe the folks here are that type of folks that they want to leave the industry better than they found it and that's you know.

Jason That's really really important because I keep hearing about the event and this is my first year here when I walk through with them everybody's like YouTube Welcome to Woodstock So I've heard about the event? yeah and and just being able to come and just experience it. Yeah, it's just amazing because even when I did my session the other day and the questions that I got the questions that we get from the attendees over at the booth. yeah, just at an amazingly high level. Just in really really smart people in the industry and it's it's nice to be around.

It's a really great yeah. I Had to get over feeling out of place with the Stars in the industry that show all the people way smarter than you're a star and you're This is my hometown but uh yeah here they are showing up here and I love it. every year it's it's been awesome to have you guys. So I wanted to ask uh based on the the talks you guys had in conversation.

Maybe you guys could give some pointers to technicians or to the people watching in the industry. like what? what are you bringing to the table? uh what did you talk about? give us just a brief a brief piece of it. Not everyone's here right and so just give us a brief piece of it. that for the people on YouTube that yeah I got to do a presentation on on pressure.

Enthalpy. Okay, and it's one of those topics that either you love or your hate. uh-huh uh, you know the chart. The pressure enthalpy chart can be really, really intimidating.

Yeah, and what we did at this event was we looked at the chart, broke it down into its component parts, and basically spoke about how you can use it as a troubleshooting tool. and if nothing else, it really helps you better understand the house and whys of an air conditioning system. When I learned this trade, it was you see this, you do this and I was always asking why. Well why does this happen? Why do we do this? Just do it.
Yeah, Yeah, right. You get paid, you go somewhere else. Yeah so so and years can go by and you just do it and you don't know why, right? You stop caring about it and you're like all of a sudden somebody comes into your life and tells you the why. I Remember years ago my first round out in Vegas from the event you guys were putting on.

yeah I said in your class you did the same. Probably pretty much the same talk very close. but years ago and uh, my mind just going like oh my gosh I I've not thought about I haven't thought about this at all and I'm in Florida this is my place like I should know this more than anybody and uh yeah. So it was kind of funny because when I was speaking I was like this is the man behind the curtain Yeah, this is the how things work and why things do what they do.

Yeah, and it really does help us get a better understanding of the physics and those without getting too crazy. This week we concentrated on on the visual aspects of a completed pressure enthalpy chart okay and and how it shifts and how you can identify causes for system failures without necessarily doing a bunch of calculations and and running through the math because you know they say four out of three people are very bad at math. Yeah, I'm one of those and apparently so are you? Yeah, yeah, great, but it's great to get out and chat. What'd you get to talk about? We were discussing the transition to the new low Gwp refrigerants.

A lot of folks again here. It was a pleasant surprise to know that everybody was aware of this. On top of this, they knew that this was happening. We've done a lot of sessions where folks are like, what refrigerant transition, what's going on, Where is this a secret? Yeah, when did this happen? Yeah.

Uh. So we were giving an update with uh, where we're at in that transition, what the industry can expect, where we're at now what will be a year from now. Some of the changes to the equipment, the tanks, some of the service practices that we're going to see moving forward with these new refrigerants. Because this is happening, This is not going to stop happening.

Um, it was a Federal Regulation that was passed and we're all going to have to embrace it at some point. Yeah, some sooner than others. Yes. So coming to a city near you, yeah, I Like it or not, it may be there already.

A lot of States already have it Florida being one of them. Yeah, so great. Yeah, so this is a great event it is. I Love I love hearing that uh the I'm gonna bring it down One More Level So I've been asking everybody who had a chance to speak and uh, that people recognize to give a practical tip for a technician who's just out running service or doing installs or something.
Something you guys have learned throughout the years to help improve who they are or to help encourage them in the place that they're at right now. So well. one thing that I've seen you know I grew up in this trade I started in the industry in 1980 yeah and we really didn't have access to a lot of the information we have now and people getting into the industry now and even people who are in the industry. We have so much quality information at our fingertips and my biggest suggestion even to students who are still in school in Texas around the field is be a consumer.

you have you have the ability to consume information and get knowledge. 24 7. you wake up at two o'clock in the morning. you can watch a video you can learn.

Just don't stop learning. Exactly. You know, the one thing that cannot be taken away from you is what's between your ears now. So I think we owe it to ourselves just to continue learning.

Yeah, and if we do that, the industry is going to grow. We need to educate our consumers, the end users of what we do, the importance of comfort and selling comfort. And we can't educate our customers if if we're lacking, so get the information, it's out there, we just have to consume it. It's good, You hear that it's there.

No more excuses I Love it. The thing that I would say is Google Responsibly Okay. As Eugene pointed out, there is a lot of stuff out there. You can pull up almost anything.

Uh, there's trusted sources and then there's some sketchy sources. Uh, pick a trusted source for your information and there's a lot of them and a lot of those folks are here that put that information out. Um, you guys are standing here representing a very trusted Source trusted sources. But we'll always, you know.

I saw a guy in YouTube doing this. Well, don't do that. All right. There's no YouTube police to say listen.

Everything has to be correct. But if it's on the Internet it's true, right? right? It must be. It must be. Yeah, in some corner of the internet, some guy is doing this and so that must be the way I Have to do it.

Well, You scroll through eight pages of results to get you know to that one guy that said what you wanted to hear. Yep. But the good news is like really trusted sources are putting out great stuff, right? Yeah, so absolutely know where you're getting your information. That's really good.

That's really good. I Love that. Well, thanks for the opportunity. Yeah, thanks for coming out here.

Thanks for actually, uh, helping with what we do and giving back I Love it. Hope to see you guys next time. Thank you All right next year You guys come out, talk to them in person, ask whatever questions you got. Thanks for watching our video if you enjoyed it and got something out of it.

Morden and AHRI textbooks are far better for information and layout. Lots of missed and skipped information in ref. And ac tec. I know this because we have used it as a training manual for years and are leaving it behind for the better textbooks.
