This was a quick little service call on a Glastender bar cooler that was not working, the unit had a temperature controller that had been shorted out because it got wet.

Coolers not working error message, let's plug it's full of water and water drops just coming out of it. This thing shorted out very common issue on these is water damage so just to test the control, I jumped the compressor wire with the power wire to make sure that the compressor works and it's running now and it's families running make sure that the discharge lang is Hot, let's see if we notice the difference in the box temp, I just want to test to make sure there's nothing else wrong before I order the control, so it's jumped out it's running. I've got some fresher probes on there and some probes inside the box. It looks like it's working, I just want to say it come down to temperature answers nice and warm discharging air sucks and lines getting cold.

We're looking good so far, we're watching for a few more minutes and then we're gon na get out of here and order. The control they have a real big problem of getting them wet. Here, it's very common. I should probably start stalking them to be honest with you, so that was a quick one.

That was a call on a little bar region. It's a two-door, 134a medium temperature cooler. The complaint was that it wasn't working correctly, the evaporator fan motor was running and the unit had power, but when I got there, the temperature controller was saying er R, which I'm assuming means error. I did not download the manual or anything I pulled the cover off the unit and disconnected power to the temperature controller and immediately water started to fall out of the plug.

The the little 10 pin molex connector. We have a history with this set this restaurant here. Getting stuff wet - and that was the case - that controllers just shorted out internally. I confirmed that the compressor runs.

What I did was, I just disconnected the compressor terminal and jumpered it to the 115 volt power coming into the temperature controller, and then let it run for a little while and watch the Box drop in temperature about 10 degrees check. The refrigerant pressures found that the pressures are accurate, they're doing fine. So I'm pretty confident that there's just a problem with the temperature controller that particular unit is under warranty, so we're going to contact a manufacturer. I really don't think they're gon na warranty it for them.

They usually deny a warranty claim if it's water damaged, but we always, even though it just seems like repetitive. We always call every single time because in my experience that one time that you don't call assuming that they're just gon na say no, they end up warranty in it and it makes you look like an ass. So I'll call. The manufacturers see what they want to do regardless we're gon na get a temperature controller, ordered either way whether or not it's covered under warranty or not, and we'll get them back up and running.

I did not leave the control jumped out. I connected everything back the way that it should be in disconnected power to it. I do not want it to run while I'm gone, there's nothing. We could do that.
It would not cycle in temperature or anything, so it would just ice up. So, like I said that was a quick little one on a reach-in cooler and we'll see on the next one.

I have an st48 top reach in that keeps filling up with water in the bottom. Any ideas

So you "jumped out" the power and compressor wires by cutting them and splicing them together??

This video was a huge help. We had a glastender go down and I did exactly what you did here and it fired right up. Ordered a new controller and we're back in business. Learning a lot from your videos! Thanks for sharing the details!

Makes you wonder why they don't use weather pack connectors like in automotive applications

Excellent video as always. Can you tell me what kind of refrigerant gauge set-up you are using when you service these small hermetic reach-in units? I see some temp clamps & wireless probes manufactured by Fieldpiece. I believe you also use a Fluke temp meter. I would like to purchase a similar set for myself if I knew the model number, etc. Do you know a good place to buy these items online? Also I'm assuming you much purchase an app in order to interface with the wireless probes. Are you in Kanata ?

Tape the plugs ups and tape the control too, but do the control in a way it vents a bit of air out the rear..

They must be pretty careless to splash water from the mop bucket. Sounds like they need a NEMA-3R enclosure……..for inside. Nice one.

They must be washing the floor, cleanup crue or something. If you don’t use some kind of protection to cover the wiring connections at the controller this will be an ongoing issue . New Beverage Air units have the controllers sitting at the bottom of the units about 8-10” from the floor , they always get wet , I use electrical tape to prevent any water from getting there . Great video like always . Props

Had a similar situation on a bev air unit. Controller kept erroring out on P1/P2. After multiple sets of temp probes another tech found that they were washing the unit down an soaking the controller… it was an awesome continuous call back situation. NOT!
