I installed this thermostat after having some requests for Nests in homes. I try to give the good and bad of the Nest thermostats and my opinion of them overall. They aren't my favorite, but there are certainly reasons why folks like them.

Complete review of the nest thermostat I've got a nest. Thermostat II model number T four zero zero one e s, we're gon na do a complete review and installation of this guy. So you can take a look at it, see how what it looks like, but before we do anything, please click that subscribe button. Thank you.

Hey guys, Joshua griffin, air serving the middle Peninsula and the northern knack for all your heating and cooling and plumbing needs and got a nest. Thermostat that we're going to look at today. We're gon na do a complete setup of it, and you know all the ins and outs any of you guys that have been watching any of my videos before know that you know I'm not the biggest fan of nest and I'll go through some of that. The good and the bad - but you know with that said: I've got customers that have a nest that they won't use.

Anything else. You know so they they really love their thermostat and and couldn't imagine having anything else in their home. So with that said, we're gon na go through complete overview of it and what it looks like on the wall lit up and all that good stuff stay tuned. Okay, so I've got the the thermostat here, I'm going to go through unboxing it.

So you can kind of see what it looks like and the packaging. This one is one of the white models. I have seen other colors, you know I I don't know a whole lot about nests. I'm not gon na lie to you.

We work on them all. The time - but I can't you know, I'm not gon na pretend that you know I know what models are, what colors and and this, and that I've seen them and silver and black looking colors. But you know this one's white, so box is pretty nice. Mamaji of you know if you were to buy an apple product or something like that, something really nice, and so this is kind of what it looks like when you open the box.

There's the thermostat face and it just kind of sits in this nice little hole there all right and then you pull this out. There's your manuals, installation guide and then finally the base back here and if we pop this out. This is the discussion plate, but the base mounts too and your screws are in this little insert right here. So let's get this thing on the wall and you can see it lit up and how all that looks.

Okay, so I've got it mounted on the wall. Here I just did one screw cuz. This is gon na, be temporary. I'm gon na be putting my Honeywell back on the wall after this demonstration, so just wanted to show you what the base looks like before I actually put the face on and it has these Stabbin connections verses a screw they're easier.

But we have had issues with those. You definitely want to make sure your wires are stripped back far enough, and you also want to make sure that it is shoved up in there good and far. So you can push in on the tab and that helps you. A little bit getting it up in there and you'll see the tab stays down when you get the wire up in there far enough.

So I'm just going to finish the install here and you go get some needlenose pliers. This is uh. This is honestly one of the things I'm not a fan of the way. This is all designed, but it is what it is.
So you have to get needlenose in here and really get that wire up in there. So it's seats in there properly. Okay, so she is on there. I don't have a backup heat on this particular system, so just make sure we get it nice and level here and here is the base.

Now this is one thing I will say as many things is. I don't like about this. This was one of the things that they started doing, I'm not sure if they were the first or not, but they were one of the first to just have the you know the snap-on faces, and then everyone else seemed to follow suit. So that is one thing and then you just get it lined up and it's on there.

So now I will go turn on power. Alright, so she is lighting up here. Got the nice googles symbol, Big Brother here watching this, and it's just gon na take a moment to get started here and we'll go through the programming? Okay. So here we we're gon na pick our language and you just simply push one the face and that will confirm it so and the way you would adjust it is you just turn on the dial here on the outside okay, so we got English here and we're Gon na set it up here.

Are you an S Pro we'll just say: we're the home owner choose the equipment wire to the OB connector. This is something that, if you don't know what you're doing this is is one of the things that we see. Homeowners get wrong a lot of times, and maybe I can make this easier on you. So if you have a standard heat pump system, Oh /b you'll want to set it up like a heat pump, which is different from a conventional system.

If you don't know what type of system you have or what you should be selecting here, then you should definitely hire a professional, the equipment. Here, it's asking us, you know. Basically, if is this, how we want it set up. It can sense those tabs that were pushed down, so it knows which one of these are engaged.

It can even it even sees that the W does not have something plugged into it and for our particular setup here. So we're good. With that heat pump, heating heat pump, cooling fan continue. What type of heating do you have for stair in-floor radiant radiators more info again, if you don't know, please hire a professional.

If you get these things wrong, it could run it inefficiently. It could actually work against itself or it could actually make it short out and you could blow a fuse or the transformer. So for our system we are forced air. This is another one.

When we were talking about heat pumps, knowing whether or not it engages the cooling or the heating, when it sends voltage for the reversing valve for the most part, most brands, at least here in America, if it's a heat pump, it will energize the reversing valve in Cooling, which would be oh if it's a Rheem rude, let's see Ameristar Bosch or some of the brands that come to mind. You would pick B and of course it says I don't know so we're going to pick oh there and then confirm. Add to your account. You'll be able control, so this is where you can download the app use, a recent version of the nest app to get started and we're not going to mess with any of that right now, so we're going to skip Internet.
Actually, let's go through that real quick, see that way you can see how that works, type in network name. You would just simply put in your network here and then your password again, I'm not gon na go through all that right now, but just one did you see what that looks like and how you would put that in and you can see this is Griffin here. This is our actual networks here and that's how you would connect it so see. Do not connect okay, your location.

This is for the weather. It says this is one of those things that you know whether or not you really want this. I don't want any of this, I'm hopefully it'll. Let me just pass all those please describe this location, single-family select date and time temperature should your thermostat beginning and heating and cooling, we're gon na, say, cooling, save energy by using eco, and this, where you can set your actual limits for your temperature, we're not going To turn any of that on, but you can see what that looks like and then finally system test setup is done.

It may take a few minutes to show the correct temperature continue and finish here. We are finally set up here still trying to get me connect to the Wi-Fi, we're not gon na fool with any of that right now, but you can kind of see what it looks like see: the colors, of course the white display. So if you wanted to turn the temperature up and down, you would do that with the dial. So we return that you can one thing.

I will say that I'd like about this thermostat again, I could point out a ton of things I don't like, but one of the things I do like is you know it tells you what the delay is. Some thermostats. You just sit there and wait forever it's in the way, and it won't tell you so if you push in it has where you can change some of the settings again and and so on. So if you have any comments or questions, definitely put them down in the comment section, I just wanted to stop and say if you like the nest, thermostat, that's great before I get all kinds of messages and hate mail or whatever I've had folks message us before Or comment - and you know think that we're trying to attack this or that I'm just you know talking about my personal experiences.

We have had a few issues with the nest. Thermostats, nothing huge. Just you know malfunctioning here there we have one particular manufacturer of heating and air equipment that has told us do not use a nest thermostat with our systems, because our systems are smart technology, they learn the home and because the nest does the same thing, they work Against each other or something I don't really know, but I just know that, based on some personal experiences, there are some other thermostats that I like better. So you know it's it's an okay thermostat! You like the nest.
If you want to spend the money and and all of that that's fine, but I just wanted to just put a little snippet of info saying if you like it great. I just wanted to get my honest and brutal opinion of what my thoughts are on it. Not again, if your heating and air guy watching this, you might feel differently, but I know the majority of heating and air guys normally lean towards another thermostat with you know that they would normally recommend. So that's pretty much it.

Thank you for watching. If you're in the market for a new heating and air system before you spend thousands, you got to check out my new website, the new HVAC guide and it's @ ww HVAC guide. Calm. If you have any questions about the thermostat feel free to comment, I will definitely answer them.

I'm gon na hang on to this thermostat for a little bit longer before we actually have one particular customer that we install nests for so I should have it for a little bit and if you have something in particular that you're wanting to know and all that Good stuff, so thanks for watching, please subscribe. You.
