HVAC goes political in this video where Joshua Griffin goes through a recent veto on some of the money coming from the Inflation Reduction Act. The veto was enacted by Republican Presidential Candidate, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The money that was blocked by this veto was for the managing of the High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate (HEEHR) and the Home Owner Managing Energy Savings (HOMES) programs in Florida. It equaled $5 million in federal grant money and shows that many Republican-led states may not be participating in a program known to move more HVAC systems to the already unstable, electrical grid.

Politics and HVAC As many of you know, if you've seen my videos before, I Normally avoid any political stuff, even if it sort of creeps in in one way, shape or form. I Tread lightly. However, when you could say that either HVAC is creeping in, the politics or politics is creeping into HVAC In the grand scheme of things, this actually does affect you. If you're a homeowner in the market for a heating and air system anytime soon, this article could affect you.

especially if you have plans of using some of the government rebate programs and things like that. So I've got this article we're going to talk about: I'll put a link to this article down in the description of the video, but I just thought it was interesting. It says a little noticed veto by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signals his likely rejection of more than 346 million dollars in federal money for a direct-to-consumer rebates for residential building upgrades including the installation of high efficiency electric HVAC equipment. and I think more specifically, what this article is referencing is the Inflation Reduction Act and a lot of the money that came with that.

So I know a lot of you have commented on our videos, have even emailed us asking us questions maybe you've asked your local HVAC text I got to tell you I've heard so many different things as far as this goes. I've heard folks saying oh, it's in effect I Read this article and it says that the inflation reduction Act is currently in effect and you can take advantage of it. but then I'll receive a comment the very next day from one of you saying that you know I tried to get it or I tried to apply or whatever you tried to do and it's not into effect yet and so I've heard so much conflicting information. In fact, some of you will probably even comment on this video and let me know which way you've seen it go.

But ultimately, as I've said in other videos, if you are wanting to take advantage of any of those rebates or any of those programs, please check with a tax professional before you go. spending money before you spend money on a heating and air system only to find out that one little thing is wrong or maybe it isn't in effect the way you thought it was. And so I know some of you have commented on our videos on that. Some of you have said I do my own taxes I think in this case, if this is something that you want to take advantage of, might be best to cover your self and make sure a tax professional is at least consulted.

If nothing else, the Santa's a candidate for the Republican Presidential nomination in June vetoed a 5 million dollar Grant from the federal government that was to go towards the cost of managing the high efficiency Electric Home rebate and the homeowner managing Energy savings programs in Florida Now one thing I want to point out about that is this veto is vetoing the five million dollar Grant to manage these programs. So it's not the actual veto of the program or the money that would come to you. I think these two programs of the inflation reduction Act Incentives designed to reduce fossil fuel consumption and carbon emissions from buildings and all the IRA provides nearly nine billion dollars in rebate money divided among the state's territories and among U.S jurisdictions for qualified home energy saving and electrification retrofits. In a reply: Jeremy Redfern who is the press secretary for DeSantis did not answer specific questions about the veto or the rebate money, saying only quote The Governor reviews every Bill and appropriation that comes across his desk and uses his authority under the Florida Constitution to veto bills that he believes are bad public policy.
The spokeswoman from the U.S Department of Energy, which is overseeing these programs at the Federal level, said the programs deliver on President Joe Biden's agenda: creating good jobs, reducing energy costs, and fighting climate change. I Think a lot of you whether you are doing it to save money. From an energy standpoint, a lot of you have asked us questions because of the economic side of things. So that's interesting that she said that it also says as Stewards of Taxpayer dollars, the Department of Energy will continue its work to ensure all Americans have access to funding that helps them breathe fresher air, live safely, and keep money in their pockets.

She said in an email and if you're wondering if I'm going to read every word of this article, I'm not. But I do have a few more things I Want to point out It says the IRA rebate money allocated to Florida totals 346 million and some change the state could apply for the money and the Doe said even after DeSantis rejection of the five million dollar grant for administrative costs. so there's that's what I was talking about This this veto for the for the five million dollar Grant was for the administrative costs, not for the program itself, necessarily asked several times whether that option is being considered Redfern did not answer if ultimately turned down the Reb make money slated for Florida could be divided among the other states and jurisdictions. One thing to point out is Florida is not the only Republican state that is going to be looking at doing things like this.

This article does dive a little deeper into this. In summary: I'll just say that when this program was enacted that the Republican Party received no votes for it to go into place. So I think that this is in response to that I don't think it's necessarily where one side or the other says oh well, we don't want to help consumers or whatever I think it's one of those deals where maybe they did not vote for it in one way shape or another. but it's definitely a partisan program where one side wants it and the other side does not.

One thing I think that shows that is it says the biggest concern around the IRAs incentives is ensuring that the higher efficiency products the incentives will help pay for are properly installed in homes where they're not. He said the intended energy and carbon emission savings won't be achieved and the demand on the elect electrical grid could increase. So what? He's basically saying there is these systems that are say a 20 Seer system if not installed properly which we see all the time. Folks think they're getting a 20 Seer system and at the end of the day because of things being not installed properly, ductwork, not sized properly, and a number of other things, they're really only getting say 11c or 12C or out of a 20 Seer system.
And the other thing that they pointed out here is when you start to move all these folks from say, gas burning appliances to the electrical grid to heat and cool homes especially heat, right? If the electrical grid can't handle this extra load, then that's obviously a problem. The last thing this article touches on is the programs themselves. We've done other videos on that. Check those videos out if you're wondering about the Inflation Reduction Act.

If you're wondering about some of these more specific programs that are part of that. But ultimately, as I said earlier in the video, we've heard so much conflicting information. There's articles coming out saying this, some of them saying that, and ultimately I think before you go spending that money, you need to consult a tax professional and make sure before you spend that money that you know what you're getting, knowing that you're going to be covered or receiving some sort of rebate. And the last thing that this article points out, the rebate programs are going to be administered by the states and jurisdictions receiving the money themselves.

So this is not something that you're applying I believe to the federal government themselves when you do your taxes or whatever. it's something through the state because the way that money was allocated, each state gets a certain amount of money. But I Just thought this was an interesting article. Again, I'll put the link down below.

let me know your thoughts. Is this something that you're concerned about? Are you concerned that you're in a state that you're not going to receive the money? Are you concerned from the political side of things that you know this is affecting you as the consumer? Or do you think that this money should not be allocated to Folks at all? Anyway, because you don't think that folks should be making these changes without consent considering the full picture. Anyway, just because you're going to receive money to get a high efficiency system. Maybe you don't want to get that high efficiency system.

Maybe you think if folks are going to make that decision, they should be considering all their options instead of just what the government program incentivizes. It's an interesting argument. Obviously, there's folks on both sides. just like everything these days.
I'd love to hear your thoughts comment down below. If you like this video, check out this video. It's on the Dike and Fit assembly line right here in the USA where we show footage that's never been seen before. Thanks for watching.

I received a 2023 Federal Tax Credit Program certificate from Daikin. It lists the eligible systems I purchased with the install date. It's for the $2,000 tax credit for 2023 per section 25 of the IRS Code. This was a part of the Inflation Reduction Act. I do not need anything from the state to receive that credit.

I hate to get political on this channel as well but you would think with inflation that politicians would be providing savings for homeowners! Seems the opposite here!

I’m getting a Bosch heat pump installed and it came with a rebate from my power company at around $3K. I’m in California though.

You are a nice guy but not politically savvy. The 'mainstream media' is viciously hostile to Republicans running for president. That especially applies to Republicans as talented as governors as DeSantis. They've been caught lying about DeSantis before. I'd distrust anything they say about this issue. It could very well be a power grab by the federal government. I know my bank refused to participate in a federal program with benefits because it came with catches that would limit their ability to be a good local bank. This is likely to be a similar power grab.

Anything related to an energy source is now 100% politics ! Regardless of rational and feasibility, the politicians are forcing society into spending much savings money to please the politicians which does not pan out for many people depending on the cost of the "approved" energy source such as electricity, natural gas, propane, oil etc. Most heating and cooling equipment is purchased based on its cost to operate and with politics attempting to eliminate the less expensive energy sources, people are NOT getting any benefits, they are footing the bill to convert and footing the bill for higher or more expensive energy sources. The HVAC industry has a full handle on which sources of energy are less expensive to operate and market those. Now, we have politics telling HVAC to cut emission just like they do with auto makers. Well, I guess that's just not good enough because natural gas is clean burning, few emissions however, the DOE and EPA now believe that natural gas is not good anymore as it emits CO. Funny how that now is an issue when gas was "the go to option" for decades ! We need to oust those in Government jobs that dictate third grade mentality such as "electric ceiling fans" need to be more efficient. That is the same impact those idiots are doing with natural gas and other energy sources so that they can claim a win win by using only electric energy. That would work if the cost of power was reasonable and in bulk supply however, those same politicians limit electric power and force electric rates to be extremely expensive thus NOT a logical option for most of society.

Good on DeSantis getting rid of this! Taxes shouldn't go to HVAC installation!

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Terry Haas says:

DeSantis is a smart politician and he doesn’t want to grow the size of the state government just to administer a federal program. Service area Kanata??

Up to $600 tax credit for high efficiency air conditioners.

Up to $600 tax credit for high efficiency gas furnaces and boilers.

Up to $2,000 tax credit for high efficiency heat pumps.

Up to 30% for geothermal heat pump systems placed in service during 2022 through 2032, with reduced rebates for 2033 and 2034. These aren't available until 2024 via Carrier website. These are select models that are "high efficiency" doesn't say what that means. They can have the $600/2000, because I wouldn't put in a top SEER model anyway, because the rebate won't pay for the reduced lifespan/increased repair of high efficiency. Just put more insulation in your attic and fix poor static pressures on duct work and a 15 SEER2 is good IMO. I have a 13 SEER HP and my bills are 1/3 that of neighbors because of ductwork and insulation.

This is a sloooooow process. First the DOE had to come up with rules and let each state know what they are. Then each state has to figure how are they going to run the program so it follows the DOE rules and stay compliant. Yes the IRA program started Jan1 2023 but until the states activate the programs dont buy a system and expect a rebate or credit, its not retroactive. Our state first said 2nd quarter 23, now its 4th quarter 23 but may be next year. So if you think you may qualify wait until your state is active and they approve your application for a rebate. Are you in Orleans ?

We never heard people being worried about the grid load when they added air conditioning. Or when cropland was turned into subdivisions for all the new people. It was an obvious improvement to quality of life, it helped the South grow. Duke Pow'r, FPL and all the others got on it and added capacity as needed.

Today we hear all this mess about how the grid can't handle heat pump demand in the winter. In the South? Hmm. This is a engineering problem that is solvable. I'm an AmeriCAN not an AmeriCAN'T. I don't think people appreciate politicians who get in the way of progress.

I have an old furnace, still running but ready for replacement. I'm waiting for these programs to go live so I can replace it with a Daikin 2 ton unit and rip out the gas lines from my house. I'm tired of paying for those system access charges in the 9 months when I don't use gas at all.

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Arch Stanton says:

These IRA rebates are supposedly point-of-purchase rebates based on income. I’ve yet to find any information in our state regarding the rebates and are separate from the tax credits. Our tax preparer didn’t know much about either.

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars happy nurse says:

You are right on your first statement you operate in the South so let me tell you you better drop the politics because the South is a mess right now you couldn't tell them people anything they believe the lies they hear on Fox News newsmax and Donald Trump Rhonda Santos is using this for political complaints about the Biden administration and hes only hurting the state of Florida That suggests you let it go especially since your customers are in the South You're talking to polite people that still believe Donald Trump won the election you haven't got a chance convincing them of anything on this planet ignorance is running rampant in the republican party today

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars M.A. M.R. says:

It's insane what a complete buffoon old bobble head desantis is. You can be the most militant extreme right wing nut and still take advantage of rebates when buying something as expensive as and AC unit. Who wouldn't want a super efficient unit and actually get paid for buying one?
