This was a silly install for sure, but I did my best well I did what the customer would le me do to correct it.

The description of that hollow sound was perfect after you said it I could hear it in the video Are you in Orleans ?
I do believe some of the old Manitowoc when you put them in cleaning you had to run a complete clean cycle
Yeah there is something called pride, nice work as always Chris keep strong and keep going
Chris, I am going way ahead of the curve here, but I think what you want to hear in your montages is Amiga Demoscene music. Service area Barrhaven??
I got Legionnaires just watching this!
Dang you still honored that bid? The company I work for won't honor any bids past 30 days. And here lately prices go up little by little every 2 weeks
RESPECT RESPECT RESPECT GREAT JOB!!!
Those cim ice machines are god awful. The quality control is absolutely abysmal and good luck getting parts
I've gone behind bad installs on remote ice machines that leaked the gas out. What I did was actually tighten the fittings with a wrench and a backup wrench. Pulled the charge then weigh in the proper amount. Installers just didn't get the fittings tight.
You're like me, you just can't walk away from a job that you know was half assed. Even though it wasn't you that did the job in the first place.
The question is do you put you company’s logo on the side panel after your complete knowing it’s not totally up to snuff with your standards? It’s a hard question for me to answer knowing this type of customer has those standards.
Your first class
If you want to hammer the Idiot "Installers" that butchered that Ice Machine, rat them out to OSHA for the cut drain line…
What they did was Criminally Negligent and if someone slipped on the wet floor, a floor that was wet ONLY because they didn't plumb the drain properly, THE INSTALLERS ARE 100% LEGALLY LIABLE for any and all injuries and damages caused by the wet floor THEY CAUSED…
OSHA will absolutely CRUCIFY them for that as will the Restaurant's Insurance Company once the Insurance finds out about the bad drain line…HINT…HINT…HINT…
😄😁😆😅😂🤣
Another question, what's wrong with the Aeroquip fittings? I get that they can leak if over torqued, but one big restaurant I service, they have 3 large (1400 lb/day) Hoshizaki ice machines. All about 9 years old. No leaks anywhere, except on the one machine they're using now, I noticed some oil on the discharge (larger) connection on the rooftop condenser today. I did notice an oily sheen on the fitting when I was last up on the roof in Sept (I change the HVAC filters and stuff on odd numbered months). I put some Big Blu on the aeroquip fitting, didn't see any bubbles, checked with the D-tek Stratus, 0 ppm. I turned off the condenser fans for a minute to see if the fans was making too much wind. Not sure at this point if I should ask the customer and quote out cutting out one aeroquip fitting. I didn't want to try and see if it could be tightened more and make it any worse than it is. Was one drop of oil at the part of it where it swivels, like where between the stationary part and the nut. Machine is still working fine at this time. At another restaurant I installed a remote cooled Manitowoc 1000 machine with new bin, new condenser, new machine and new R410A 20' precharged lineset. I didn't like the aeroquip fittings either, but I followed the directions and I don't trust them myself, but so far thank goodness, installed in June 2019, been over 3 years and no issues so far.
I feel that you should really be more assertive with your customers. Don't give them the option of not cleaning up the linesets. That's YOUR name on the line. Tell them all or nothing. No negotiation. We either do it right, or you call back the low bidder to fix it. Don't sell yourself short, bud. Are you in Kanata ?
iceomatic is a crap machine,
Absolutely cannot tolerate standard broadcast TV but I could watch this for hours.
Now… what's that tune and where do I find it?
NVM, it's Deep Space Samurai by Forever Sunset
-.- From the manufacturers website…
"Designed to pair with Aeroquip’s stainless braided A/C hose for a DIY A/C hose assembly made right in your garage! Complete with charge ports, these nickel plated fittings feature an O-ring ferrule to ensure a superior seal when paired with Aeroquip’s A/C stainless braided hose. "
Don't you have to purge and fill with nitrogen before brazing all copper lines on HVAC systems? I would not trust the fly by night installers to have done that. Replacing the line set seems almost necessary to avoid oxides from flaking off and contaminating the system with debris as well as chemical reactions with the refrigerant, right?
I would have fixed the line set too, because that is a reflection of your work, I like it to look clean and professional, don't care if the customer doesn't want spend the money, I either force the cost on to the customer or eat the cost. Not worried about pennies or nickels. Good job Chris.
Is 3 point recovery the only use for a 4 port gauge?
Hey Chris, by any chance are you still hiring? I recall you said you were a few weeks ago if im not mistaken
Quick question when you're brazing a swage connection do you try to go with refrigerant flow? Or does it not matter too much. I noticed in the video that you had the swage connections on the same side for both lines. Does any of this make sense haha
I can only hope that the installers watch your videos and realize how terrible they are.
good job as always chris yes that was a hack job i have seen a few myself stay safe chris
some ice machines have the auto cleaning, that is why they do that.thanks for sharing. Service area Kanata??
3-4 months after a deep cleaning was needed?! 🤢
never ask for ice 😉
Especially good 1980s/video game theme music on this one 👍 And a good job, as always.
Why didn't they call the installer back to fix the shit on the bottom shouldn't that have been part of their original quote
that's why i never drink with ice, what's the restaurant and where?!!?
How does the customer not get pissed that you did the work anyway and billed them for it regardless of the fact that it costed the same? I would be pissed if somebody quoted me say $1000, got billed for the extra work and still paid $1,000. I would have demanded that you only bill me for the work done, hence a lower cost.
Installers should be required to have a sticker on the machine so you can name and shame I think it would save the turtles California figure it out
Brazing music made me feel like I was watching stranger things. Lol good work as always Chris
Hey, like always your killin it. Stay true to you be as are, like always your a standup Dude. Just curious when I recover my unit stays liquid line to be hooked up, Now I noticed your and the gas side, is there a difference?
Anything you do, do it right the first time. I knew you wanted to fix those pipes. Then you did.
Think that is the reason why I keep watching your channel. I can trust that what you are showing us is the right thing to do.
You mentioned that you suspected that the installers didn't pull a vacuum – but you reused the refrigerant – did you have a change of thought on it?
You got to love those sharkbites on the drain line, it’s a classic. My current favorite is a customer who didn’t have us install a bakery proofed, when they did the drain line they made it too long, so when they open the doors it bends the drain line and leaks on the floor. It’s a classic. “Where’s this puddle coming from”
Great outro mate. Can't get enough free knowledge from you, even though I am not in the industry, it's just amazing to watch, thanks Chris. Hope the family is good, yep that includes the 4 legged one/s also. Cheers From Adelaide, South Australia
Most manufacturers will not warranty the unit unless line sets are new and installed properly. Ice-o-matic remote units need 16oz on top of the name plate charge for the condneser. If you look a t the Condenser tag it will call for 16oz of 404A
ive reused those fittings plenty of times, especially if you braze them on then evacuate just the lines, works fine. Would fix the insulation though, and oil the fittings up Are you in Nepean ?
Ahhh, look at you, so humble lol. Really man, you are a bang up tech! For what it’s worth, Ice-o-Matics are different, and I’ve seen some bad practices come from the factory. I’m sure they have just as hard a time finding good employees as most of us have in the HVAC/R field. For this reason it’s easy to spot when those who know shine. Great Job! Service area Orleans??
Nice work Chris, really enjoyed the video.
Customer be like "I didn't want you to fix the line set, I'm not paying more then the original quote"
Yes those ice-o-matics are annoying almost any part replacement or going through the diagnostic through the board or clearing codes all of it is annoying. The old one were at least mostly tech friendly.
One of the most important tools we possess……..eyes, ears and gut feeling/ intuition….if it doesn't look right, sound right, smell right or feel right…..it probably isnt….listen to your brain….gut feeling.
Thats awesome this was the same day you had my boss on the show….that makes it even cooler.
I had the same problem with the Manitowoc cleaning cycle, I hit the switch by mistake and put it on cleaning. Turn the unit off a few times and it was no coming off the cleaning cycle, recently I was washing another manitowoc and I took it out of cleaning mode turning the power off for a minute or 2.
I work on ice o matic almost everyday. 🚮 🗑️ Are you in Ottawa ?
Kitchen owners don't care. They just want it to work. Line set looks bad? Eh! It works. Might even been installed by the owner himself or was already like that when they bought the place. They don't clean the machine until it stops working. Service area Ottawa??
Nice job!
Polish that 'ol t**d. Service area Nepean??
maybe hack and moe did the install
80's John Carpenter style brazing music FTW!
Thanks!
