Hey Pool owners How much salt do you need for a saltwater pool? The salt water level needs to be around 3 200 parts per million. That's less than the amount of salt in human tears and about 1 10 the amount of salt in ocean water so you won't even notice it. And you'll only need to add salt once or twice a year. That's because the salt water generator continuously recycles and reuses the salt as it generates chlorine.

The salt doesn't evaporate, but it does get diluted when it rains or if you add fresh water. So if you have a 10 000 gallon pool and you're starting with no salt in your water, you'll need to add about six or seven 40 pound bags of salt. Luckily, the salt is cheap and you won't have to handle any chlorine pops or granules. Follow us at swim University for more pool care tips throughout the year.
