Welcome to swim, University, comm, the ultimate guide to pool and spa care how to back wash your sand filter. First turn off your sand. Filter then take your backwash hose and a hose clamp and place it firmly over the backwash nozzle make sure to screw the hose. Clamp on tight next turn their multi-port valve from filter to backwash, now turn on your sand filter.
Let this run for about a minute or until the slight glass is completely clear. Turn off your sand filter and move the multi-port valve from backwash to rinse turn on your sand filter. Let this run for about 30 seconds turn off your sand filter then take your multi-port valve from rinse to filter. Now turn back on your sand filter! You.

So I recently bought a house , previous owner said pressure should be @ 10 psi This season my Psi is 18 . I have backwashed and rinsed for 1minuet and 30 seconds . I have repeated this more than once and can’t seem to get it to 10 psi. Do you have any suggestions?
After I backwash and rinse, I noticed when I put it back to filter, it would blow cloudy water back in to the pool for about 30 seconds or so. I began closing the valve going back in at the pool side, detaching the hose from the pool, then running it on filter until the water wasn't cloudy any longer. It makes a HUGE difference in keeping my water clear, especially when there has been a shortage of chlorine tablets!! Have been shocking the pool more often to maintain proper chlorine levels for now. Thanks for the videos!!

in a 36" filter how much sand you lose everytime you backwash?
And how often you need to backwash the filter?
you might tell the people where to place the end of the discharge hose so it will not cause problems. I water my lawn/flowers/garden with it. the rinse cycle resets the filter bed and lessens the problem of air going back into the pool or into the filter. also, minimizes the problem of sand going into the pool. if you have a manual air relief, it is a good idea to bleed until you get a good stream of water from the relief after you go back to filter cycle and start the pump.
