On this episode, we're talking about cloudy hot tub, water, it's a common problem and we're going to learn what causes it and how to fix it. So what are some common causes of hot tub? Cloudiness? Well number one? It could be dead algae. It could be environmental debris, it could be a combination of high, ph and or high alkalinity. It could be a lack of sanitizer, including chlorine or bromine, and it could also be bottle body, oils, lotions and other human grossness.

Okay. So now that we know what causes cloudy water in a hot tub, we can avoid it. However, if your hot tub is already cloudy, i have three cures that can help you fix it. Number one is you're gon na test the water to make sure that your ph and your alkalinity are completely balanced.

That means ph between 7.4 and 7.6 and alkalinity between 80 and 125 parts per million, and then we're gon na check the sanitizer to make sure the sanitizer is at the proper level and you're gon na shock it that may help your cloudy water situation. Number two is you're: gon na add a hot tub clarifier. Yes, there are chemicals out there that will actually turn your hot tub from cloudy to clear. Just make sure that when you add the clarifier to the hot tub that the jets are running and the air valves are turned off and lastly, number three, which is kind of easy and kind of a cheat system.

But it's basically draining and refilling the hot tub. That's all you got to do bonus tip. Today's bonus tip is brought to you by the hot tub handbook, which is a downloadable illustrated guide that i created that'll, walk you through everything. You need to know about hot tub maintenance.

You can get your copy at swimuniversity.com handbook and if you enter the promo code, video because you're watching this video, you will get five bucks off. So there you go. Today's bonus tip is very simple: it's about adding chemicals to your hot tub, because, if you're going to be doing one of the first two methods you're going to be adding chemicals. So when you add chemicals, you want to make sure that your hot tub cover is off, of course, you're going to add the chemical to the water, but make sure that your hot tub is running and make sure the air valves are turned off.

Also, let the chemicals mix into the hot tub by letting it running for 15 minutes or so with the cover off after that, you can close the cover and go on your merry way, also go to swimuniversity.com for more information and, if you're on youtube, there's a Subscribe button somewhere and i would love for you to subscribe because we're coming out with a new video every single week. That's it guys thanks again and happy soaking, you.

Please help. I'm soooo frustrated. I've cleaned our hot tub with diluted bleach last night. Today this gross brown film is all around it. We have a filter but it's still soooo gross like semi dirty bath water. Help. Can I clean this without draining. Our tub is a plug and play. When it's on the jets run on a cycle. Please help.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Cindy Mccallum says:

May I also add , to make sure your water is heated when you add your chemicals, or else they don't get the best effect especially if it is a granular chemical

    1. I have a Inflatable Intex Pure SPA/HOT, the Air Jet are AIR operated therefore, it's all in one. My point is I can't run the Jets without running the Air…… what am I to do? The only thin g that will run independently is the Circulation pump.

    2. I'm going from Chlorine, to Bromine….. I know I have to drain the Tub, how do I effectively clean it before going to Bromine ?

    Thanks in advance

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Sheri Lee says:

I agree with just refill to save money and chemicals because adding additional chemicals to the already bad water is a waste and won't correct high solids etc. it's worth the time to refill at least twice a year in my opinion.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Butlrm01 says:

What do you mean, "when adding chemicals, make sure the air valves are off", are the jets that same thing as air valves? I turn on the jets and toss in my chemicals. Am I doing it wrong? Are you in Orleans ?
