HVAC Brand Overview: Daikin, Amana, Goodman lineups.
Just a quick overview of the comparing these brands to one another all under the same parent company. Sometimes comparing apples to apples, you find that they are the exact same HVAC product with a different name on the label.

Hey guys before we get to the video, please click that subscribe button, hey guys, josh with griffin here serving the middle peninsula and the northern neck of virginia and i've been doing a series of videos on different heating and air brands. Families of brands, who's who and if you're, comparing different brands, and so we did one on train and american standard. You know the ingersoll rand lineup. We did one on the carrier, icp brand lineup, and then we did one on the riemann rude and so now we're up to one of my favorite brand lineups, and i you know, i know if you're watching this.

I found that heating and air is kind of like uh cars. You know you like ford, i, like chevrolet kind of thing. You know who's better. Well, it kind of depends on your experiences and one of the companies that we've had the best experiences with is the daikin lineup of brands, so daikin, who also now owns goodman and the amana brands here in the usa, and so, unlike some of the other brands That we've talked about in my other series.

You know where i went through the the train and the carrier, brands and all of those, unlike some of those other guys daikin for the most part, has a definitive difference between their lines. So it's not like they're rolling off the same stuff with different labels on it, where they're just slapping different stickers on it. Each one of their brands seems to they're trying to target a particular market, particular customer customers that shop at nordstrom might not be shopping at, say, walmart right or vice versa, and it's not that either one is wrong or bad. It's that it depends on what you're.

After right, if you're after a really good meal, you're not gon na go to mcdonald's uh, you know if you're after something fast and quick and cheap. Maybe you would right. So let's talk about each one of the brands, that daikin is the parent company for and i did a whole video talking. It's called goodman, but good and bad.

And if you you know, i'm gon na put a link to that video right up here. So if you want to check that out, if you're looking at the goodman brand lineup that's kind of their builder grade lineup, not that it's you know bad or anything like that. One of the things - and i talk about it in that video is goodman - has gotten a reputation that may or may not be fair so and the reason i think they've gotten the reputation of maybe having breakdowns or this or that is accessibility to their product. They've made their product really accessible, you can go online.

In fact, you can go into some of my suppliers that sell to us. There are some products and brands they will not sell to someone off the street, but when it comes to goodman's equipment it seems like anybody, can just walk right in the door and buy it. So is that a good or bad thing? You know i'll leave that up to you. That's you know the thing with goodman and you know i've put in a lot of goodmans.

We've had success with the goodmans. If they're installed correctly, they seem like you're a pretty decent product. We usually attach a three-year labor warranty and a 10-year parts warranty, which is what comes from goodman and that's a little higher than a lot of our competitors, because i believe in the product that much next. Let's talk about the amana brands and of the three daikin goodman and amanda uh to be completely upfront with you, i know probably the least amount about the amana brand of the three you know.
So do your own research. If you got someone trying to sell you in a mana again, unlike some of the other companies, you know where it's say a carrier and a bryant being the same product. A man is supposed to be a step up. It's supposed to be from goodman.

That is it's supposed to be a step up. It's supposed to be a better made product. It's supposed to come with a better warranty, all that stuff and their heat exchangers are supposed to be. I believe they're stainless steel, whereas they're probably more, you know galvanized with the goodman lineup you know, and that i think that might be changing too uh goodman's goodman's uh, starting to make some better products.

They think they have a unit. That'll go up to 18 seer. Now and and then i believe, with the amana brands there, you start to get into some of the inverter technology communicating technology, and that is not the case with goodman goodman. They do have some communicating stuff now, but they do not have as during the making of this video.

They do not have an inverter system yet and so yeah, so i just confirmed it on their website. They do have a true inverter system and they've got some really good warranties on some of their products. Amana, that is, they they've got some some good stuff here, they've. Even there they've got some ductless systems.

Things like that. So i would say a mana is probably targeting a little bit. You know a customer that they still want something uh. You know good they're, not looking for the cheapest thing, they're, not really looking for the most expensive thing, but maybe something in that middle range, but they have some products that compete with right up there with some of the best stuff right.

Finally, i want to talk about the dyken lineup daikin is the company that we at griffin air, have decided recently over the last um, probably a year or so to hang our hat on there's a number of reasons for that. First of all, daikin is sort of their flagship brand, so they're, starting to make more products under the daikon name versus the others, they're starting to offer products that you can't get anywhere else. Their vrv life line is unlike anything else in residential, where you can mix and match different indoor, either ductless or ducted systems with just one outdoor system, and you might say well i've seen that with other brands too yeah. But this is like you know it's so interchangeable so like.
If you were to install some of their competitors, they might have a multi-zone outdoor unit with just say three ports or four ports, and and then, if you were gon na do more than that, you might have to install something like a distribution box and things like That, where, with the daikon vrv life, they can mix and match, they have these ref net ys that go into the line, sets for each indoor unit and there's all kinds of combinations that you can do and it's just a super efficient system. I think it provides heating all the way down to negative four degrees and one of their newest products. During the making of this video, it's come out in the last couple years is the daikin fit and i did a whole video on the dyke and fit essentially what they've done is they're, taking some of that inverter technology that they're coming out with systems, but they Put it in this cute little tiny outdoor unit right so instead of having this gigantic 20 or 18 seer unit, that's just ginormous sitting on the outside of the house to re to reach those higher seer ratings, they've, condensed it all down and they've got the dyke And fit where you have the side discharge unit and it you know, can be right up against a wall with just a little bit of clearance and still work great uh. You can hang it up on the wall on wall brackets.

Just like you would a ductless system, there's us all kinds of things. So that's the two things right now that we're most excited about when it comes to the daikin line, uh with griffin air, you get a 12-year parts and labor warranty with the daikon stuff. The premium stuff they have a unit replacement warranty on their premium products that if there were a major failure, like a compressor, were to fail, they would replace the entire unit. Um, there's not a whole lot of brands that are offering that so they've brought a lot to the table for us at griffonair.

Unlike again, unlike some of the other brands, where you know you might have two different contractors coming into your home and they're, say one's offering a train and one's offering an american standard and they're, basically the same product well with daikon. When you some of these products, you can't get anywhere else, that's kind of one of the reasons we've decided to sign on with them. It's been a great relationship so far and uh they've, you know really just kind of met our standards. If you will better than anyone else so far, so if you are in the market for a heating and air system and you're in our coverage area, so if you're in the middle peninsula or the northern neck of virginia give us a call, we will give you A free estimate we'll give you a you, know great warranty, obviously, and a great product if you're, not in our coverage area and you're, still in the market for a heating and air system.

First of all hit that subscribe button. But second of all, you got to check out my new website. It's new hvac guide, dot com, i'll put a link to it down in the notes, but you know i'm putting all kinds of stuff on this website. The ins and outs secrets that heating and air contractors and manufacturers - don't even want you to know, i'm putting it on that website.
I even have a page called no nose on there that it's things they avoid when you're buying a heating and air system so check that out, and we really appreciate you watching thanks.

Aren't Amana and Daiken parts exactly the same? Even Goodman may have the exact same parts now right?

Josh, please recommend to me an HVAC supplier and/or installer within the Prince William County: Manassas and/or Woodbridge. We are located just outside DC in Virginia. Thank you.

    Thank you

Goodman also is well supported with parts availability and they are now based in Texas. Daikin dealers have said the Goodman brand has been upgraded by Daikin to be the most supported brand in parts and serviceability. Goodman tends to be the Chevy Small Block in HVAC now a days.

What do you think of mr cool universal? They seem well built and is making a name for them self

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Marty W says:

Having a 3.5 ton Goodman a/c installed Thursday. The installer has been around for years and has a good reputation so hopefully I won't have the problems some have had with the brand. I know several who has Goodman units and are pleased. Time will tell……. Are you in Barrhaven ?

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Amanda Morales says:

The contractor I’m thinking about is saying his supplier is out of Amana furnaces but he can put in a Goodman furnace with a Amana ac would this be alright, I see the Goodman is cheaper and the warranty is not as good, however his bid price did not change , is he trying to sell me cheaper equipment to make a little more?

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kenny C. says:

So basically what I'm reading and hearing from here and elsewhere is that Goodman and Amana are pretty much exactly the same with their overlapping models. So Amana has a few higher-end models and a bit better warranty – thus the higher cost – but other than that, their overlapping models have similar product numbers go Goodman and are practically the same except for the paint, label and warranty details?

Your video makes me sick! With all the bouncing around and movement! Awful!

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Curt Wuollet says:

The hate against Goodman seems to all come from from underbid competitors, not the people who actually install them.

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jenny Tristani says:

Thanks for the info. Questions for you
For 16 seer Amana all new system with life time warranty and quoted for $9600 out the door price seems reasonable?
    Thanks Service area Orleans??

I honestly wish you were in south Carolina! You should see some of the "characters" I've had in my house to give me proposals on a new ac system! We've had three different companies and I wouldn't trust any if them with your money! Lol! Do you know of anyone you would recommend in the Columbia South Carolina area????????

Daikin is the bomb, had mine 2.5 yrs now inverter system with multi speed furnace ( not a HVAC person so my knowledge and language might suck) and it trips me out cuz it might be running most the day but will run super low speeds to maintain temp and save so much money now !! Idk the size of inverter or furnace but my house is almost exactly 1,500 sqft and very old, 1938 model. Biggest complaint is because of the age of the house my 2 inlets on ceiling where filters go get dirty pretty fast !! I’m changing filters every 2-3 weeks now. So if you live in a old house with a daikin be ready to spend money on some filters !! Lol

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Holly Purol says:

Great info, we just had a recommendation on a daikin dx16sa024 because the warranty is best unlike any-other and I was looking here to compare

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Sexual Tyrannosaurus says:

As a commercial service tech, personally my favorites are Trane and Mitsubishi. Goodman isn't to bad with their split systems, but the Saturday morning pickup truck installers defiantly isn't helping their reputation, their RTU's are total crap in my opinion. Daikin ductless systems are Ok. Personally I like Mitsu. City Multi stuff more.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars william server says:

I have been putting in carrier for 20 years and find it very reliable but the goodman stuff is fine. I wouldn't recommend a goodman heat pump if you live in a really cold area

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars jack frost says:

I built my own house and had an Amana system installed, 4-5 years after installation, the evap coil was leaking and had to be replaced, cost me a lot of money under warranty. To get the ten year warranty, you have to register the unit within 60 days, if you miss the 60 days there is only a 5 year warranty. Amana/ Goodman plan it this way knowing a percentage of people don't know about the 60 day time limit or in my case, I was too busy building my house.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars TheSPAZZANATER says:

Not had good experience with Daikin furnaces. Had lots of board, burner and heat exchanger failures.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daniel L says:

    Global-International best brand

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Trevor Sprague says:

I live in Louisiana and am replacing our entire system including ductwork. 1800sq. for house. Looking at 2 stage or variable units and am down to Amana and American Standard. Both good contractors. What say you?

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alpzepta says:

Daikin is the only HVAC from Japan. Mitsubishi doesn’t count because they only make mini spilt

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Speedy Gonzalez says:

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Speedy Gonzalez says:

Well, GoodMan is the best. in my opinion. I have to Units in my house, They are working like a champs.

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars BlackCat 56 says:

how about a quality new unit cost flat out price brand, reasonable parts. and approximately how much is the going rate for replacing the 25 year old. unit. and a brand most people buy and pay. exam. 25 year old town house. we have an 1,800 sq. ft. 2 floors. in pa.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars markjr1205 says:

I'm an Amana dealer. Ive worked on goodman a lot. My previous company installed daikin. Ive seen zero issues with Amana so far. I love it. I find it very very reliable!

Great info, looking to get a new furnace this week. Is this guy wearing a piece? Service area Ottawa??

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars William D says:

Currently I have a 13 year old Trane Package rooftop considering a replacement in Phoenix. July and August requires a Freon boost every year. Costco- Lennox/Sams Club and a few others offer spring/fall specials and a rebate from my Utility Co. I am liking what I hear about Daikin 12 year warranty. Is there a cost for this warranty? or is this included with the price? I may forgo the spring/fall offers and purchase now for better installation by the contractor, no rush or no shortcuts due to the increased workload in March/April/May/June etc Are you in Ottawa ?

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kelly Roswell says:

Please be aware that AMANA has the best warranty of all three…Lifetime Unit Replacement vs 12 Year Unit Replacement with Daikin. Only advantage Daikin has currently is the Daikin Fit line, which I am sure will be introduced in the Amana line, soon. Inverter technology is the future and both have a true 18 and 20 SEER unit. So at the end of the day, Amana is exactly the same as Daikin, but with a better warranty

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeanne Schlumbohm says:

Why does Goodman get terrible reviews by Consumer Reports? Every HVAC repair person I've talked to say they have to repair them all the time. I sure would like an opinion from someone that has nothing to gain from their opinion.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Juan Cervantes says:

Have you installed the Goodman GSXC18 yet? Thoughts? Looking into upgrading my hvac system. Have a 3 ton now and looking into purchasing a 4 ton. Stay in South east Texas approx. 10 miles from the gulf. House is 1750 sqft and I believe my hvac system is undersized. Which brand is your go to? Thanks for all the vids. I’m subscribed.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Will Chu says:

In NJ, I got quoted $8,800 for Amana 16 SEER 2 stage 3 ton, and furnace installed. Is this price good? Are you in Kanata ?

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars PickleRix says:

It looks like Daikin, Goodman, and Amana do share a common design on some of the condensing units and furnaces. It looks like Goodman also makes Franklin and they also use to make Janitrol. I assume the Janitrol line has been retired since I haven’t seen it in many years.

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Zack says:

I bought an Amana system. They are giving a lifetime compressor warranty as well.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars johndude04 says:

Other manufacturers also have a "refnet" type system. Toshiba Carrier, Carrier and Bryant. Where you can mix ducted units and non ducted units.

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steve Mayo says:

I live in CA. I just had a 16 seer 3 ton Daikin package unit installed about a month ago.. I've been very very happy so far.. I had never heard of Daikin before, but when my contractor compared warranties between the Daikin and my other option Lennox.. It was an easy choice. Thanks for the video and info about Daikin, Goodman and Amana. Service area Nepean??
