Something I hate the most in our industry is HVAC Technicians taking your money but not doing things properly. In this picture you can see where a capacitor was replaced. They hooked up the wires but they did not strap it properly. It's a huge fire hazard.

In fact, this person left it in the box that the capacitor came in. That capacitor should be strapped in there properly. Some guys will just leave it in there just hanging and it's a huge fire hazard. Huge safety issue and it's something that you as the homeowner should watch out for.

I totally agree with you! , but in all honesty, that capacitor is not really going anywhere unless you have a huge huge hit on your air conditioning unit.. I canโ€™t imagine any scenario where a capacitor, resting like that would really cause a likely issue. Extremely rare I would say, and almost unthinkable.

Never seen it pose a fire hazard. Breaker will trip if it faults. Itโ€™s definitely a safety hazard though.

I have been doing HVAC work for 25 plus years, this is not a safety hazard. The reason why we sometimes do this is because the screws donโ€™t line up with new capacitor.

I'm not defending it, but that exact scenario is so unbelievably common it begs the question, is it really a fire hazard. I mean it looks like a fire hazard, it seems like it should be a fire hazard. But I'd bet money that at least 5% of a tracks out there have that kind of s*** going on. Service area Orleans??
