I wonder how bad the air leakage is on a non high efficiency air handler.... I was surprised that my leakage was so high

Currently doing a duck Blaster test. So I'm pressurizing my my brand new air handler that I'm about to install in my house. Uh, it's running right at 5.96 or 6 Cfms of leakage right in there. Um, 25 pascals and most of the leakage before I even installed it.
This thing has a lot of gaskets, right? So if you had a less efficient air handler, I'm sure that it would have even higher leakage. but I can feel that it's around the filter door right here. It's going crazy. It's around the refrigeration line connections.
it's around the drain line connections. and you see when I put the smoke right here. it's just lazy. it just lingers and just kind of floats.
But when you put it here, boom, it shoots up into the air and blows away. So it's leaking all around that filter door. And there's only thing what when I install it. I'm going to cut the filter or blank it off because I'm putting a media filter on it.
so I don't need that anymore. But pretty interesting to see that these things are not 100 leak free from the get-go.
Should’ve got a bosh brother way more worth the money
LOL its "leaking" from the place it pulls air into it! Thats not a leak… lmao bro…… Are you in Kanata ?
That's not much leakage at all carriers are pretty good at sealing there units, I would always foil tape all the seams anyway and i like to use duct sealant putty around the drains and copper
Thumb gum, and walk away.
What was that smoke tool?
The filter door will be under negative pressure under Normal operation Service area Ottawa??
There will be negative pressure at the filter. It's like you have never heard of silicon? Caulk the lineset penetrations if it's bothering you that much.
IF YOU THINK THAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO TELL THAT ITS MISSING 6 CFMS THEN YOU'RE A SPECIAL PERSON. YOU HAVE WAY TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS. IF YOU HAVE TO HAVE A MACHINE TO TELL YOU THAT IT'S LEAKING DO YOU THINK YOU WILL BE ABLE TO TELL THAT ITS MISSING 6CFM'S OF AIR? SERIOUSLY DOUBT IT. Service area Nepean??
Wtf 😂 just install the bloody thing and turn it on ahahah
Not just carrier also wonder bout r value on the unit itself
I know this is a joke but the reason is because the cfm for this unit is overwhelming that freaking 10 or 12 inch flex and it's pushing through the gaskets. They are meant to resist suction Are you in Barrhaven ?
You didn’t know they aren’t air tight 😂 every coil will leak cause of the connections
None are leak free, not even a brand new rtu or ahu that costs 500k is leak free. Ever
It won't matter if the air handler is in a conditioned space.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Who really cares ?
Ya carriers are like that Are you in Orleans ?
Leaks out when pressurized but sucks in air when the blower motor runs!
Media filter for the win…
Perhaps one day the manufacturers will stop making the silly filter door and save themselves some money and pass the savings on to the homeowners.
I mean what do you expect?? Its not a porsche youre getting its a hvac unit..anything made for a house now adays is not engineered right not even the houses..refridgerators dryers and washers only last 5 years if youre lucky
I can't believe how much it leaks oh my, meanwhile, the ductwork in the house is like a screen door lol
Im surprised you chose the Carrier.
bruh its a carrier hat did you expect?
I taped mine up like a mad man 😊
All units brands built this way are cheap built n leak like crazy. That's why when installed u tape n pookie everything. Trane has a nice right unit with foam insulation
I would have imagined you'd have been using a high-pressure blower for your tests. The smallest is the 1TDR6 which can handle 1-1/4 in of wc, most filters are rated to be clogged at 1 in wc, it can pull/push 86 CFM through 1 in wc.
Damn…
That's a shame.
…do realize how stupid you sound Service area Barrhaven??
Thumb gum, cork tape, foil tape, etc. Yea. But honestly this isn't an issue unless its going into a 140 degree attic. Even still, its minimal.
Carrier and other furnace manufacturers should be ashamed.
It is sort of wrong to pressurize your air handler for test purposes. You really need to Vac Test. Your air handler is under negative pressure when operating. This negative pressure pulls all the gaskets tighter, sealing better that you think. Especially around cabinet panels and pipe/elec. knockouts.
Over thinking it to much
Carrier? Why not just install train or American standard haha. What a complete piece of shit.
Where did you get that smoker? Did you make that? How? I need one. Looks like a turkey baster.
Your pressurising the negative end of the air handler. Really!!?
With little exception all new furnaces are cheaply built. Your expectations are ridiculous.
If everything is within the building envelope then the impact from leakage goes way down. They still leak but if it's in a conditioned space then it's less harmful.
How can someone get started doing duct leakage testing? Are you in Nepean ?
If you read the iom they yell you what the leakage is
Ok, so don't install it.
Worse than that, when you take a Carrier or Lennox ahu apart to install it, the screws rarely line up with the holes on the cabinets. Service area Orleans??
That is a lot of leakage.
Dude, what are you going to do to get back that 6 CFM.
All the design problems that that furnace has is listed on the blue decal on the front. Although it is summed up in just one word it does explain everything.
You got the career you took my advice youll love it in ac mode the thing will just start up slow then rev up
People are paying big $ to buy these high efficiency units and they don't provide what they are suppose to.
Duct tape lol
No.shit it's leaking u got positive pressure on it. Everywhere that's leaking would be negative pressure when in operation. Here another hvac hack tech. Oh amd it's called a blower door test, not whatever the heck you called it
"Im surprised this tin box held together with ten rivets is not seal-tight " /facepalm lol
That's the main reason that I like installing them in the conditioned space. Then it doesn't matter if it leaks a little.
