In tech, spools have all the same needs as the bigger in-ground pools, but water chemistry can be a bit confusing. So, let's clear that up both the confusion and your pool, wordplay, quick disclaimer, everyone has a different way of taking care of a pool at the end of the day. We all just want to help you take care of your pool and make sure that it's clean and clear and everybody has a good time swimming in it. Everything in this video is, from my personal experience, taking care of pools for a very, very long time, plus all the research we've done here at swim University and if I've missed anything in this video, I apologize.
But if you just leave a comment, I can address it there. Thank you very much. We're also talking about water chemistry, which means we're gon na be talking about pool chemicals, which means safety. First, people that means putting on chemical resistant gloves using a mask using chemical resistant goggles and a chemical resistant apron.
A nice apron, the biggest difference between an in-text pool and an in-ground pool or an above-ground pool in that case is just size in text. Pools have less gallons, that's where the real confusion comes in, because a lot of companies that have to debt cell pool chemicals are really selling it for above-ground, pools and in-ground pools, which are much bigger. However, in text pools are a little bit smaller. That said, in text pools have all the same things as an in-ground pool or an above-ground pool, and when we talk about in text we're talking about the brand in text, they go by many names you can have in text.
You can have quick set. You can have easy set, you can have blowup pools, they're all called the same thing. The only thing that we're gon na talk about we're gon na address in this video is your pool, must have a filter system. That means a filter and a pump that circulates the water.
If you just have a pool that you set up and you add water to it, that is not the same thing. The pools that we're talking about have a filter system, and that makes them just like every other pool. The good news about having an in-text pool or one of these easy set pools is that when in doubt, just change the water out, I'm a poet - and I didn't even know I was one. What you're gon na have to figure out before we do anything with water chemistry is how many gallons of water are in your in-text pool.
The easiest way to find this out is, hopefully you still have the instruction manual and it'll just tell you in there. If not, you can go to our pool calculator at some university. Comm / pull calculator and you can just enter in the dimensions of your pool and the height, and it will tell you how many gallons are in your pool. This is the first and most crucial step when it comes to pool chemistry.
Next, you need to know how to run your filter system. You need to know how the filter system works, which is basically water comes in. The pump is sucking the water into your into your filter system. It is filtering, it's usually in this case a cartridge filter, but you might also have a small sand filter, so the pump is gon na suck water in pump it through the filter system and then back into your pool, and so, whenever you're, adding chemicals to your Pool you want to make sure that that filter system is churning it's running. It's spinning the water. How long can I do this? Look like Arsenio Hall, just like every other pool, you got your filter system. You got your water, you, how many gallons, it's time to test it, you're gon na test it by using either test strips a liquid test kit that you can buy both of these things. You can buy your local pool, store or online, and you can even take a sample of your water to a local pool store and they will check it, for you just need to know how many gallons that you're working with so that they know what kind of Readings to give you personally with a smaller body of water, I recommend testing more often than you would with a bigger pool, because a lot more things can affect the water.
Rain can really affect the water and drastically change the pH people swimming, and it can drastically change it. So you're gon na be testing more often. If you can do it three times a week. That would be great twice a week, even but at minimum twice a week now, once we have our tests, we have our readings.
We need to balance the water before we do any sort of sanitation and balance in the water in this case is just balancing the pH and the alkalinity. You might get another reading called calcium hardness with an in-text poll or with an easy setter blow a pool. You do not need to worry about adding calcium harness to your pool. We are not trying to prolong the life of a liner.
We are not trying to prolong the life of a concrete pool. You have an easy set pool, something that you take down. Every single season - and so therefore you really don't - have to worry too much about calcium hardness, so we've talked about balancing, and now we want to talk about sanitizing. So once your pool is perfectly balanced, your pH is at the right level.
Your alkalinity is at the right level now we can add a sanitizer to your water and the reason we want to balance the water before adding the sanitizer or before checking the sanitizers, because a balanced pool will make your sanitizer more effective. And in this case, if you're going to be using a sanitizer, I just recommend using chlorine. It's the easiest thing you can use for a smaller pool. You can buy a chemical floater, a little tiny floater that you can add small chlorine pucks into, or you can add, a like a granular chlorine, something that you can just toss directly into the water and let it circulate.
You have your sanitizer. We want to make sure that the sanitizer, in this case for a chlorine pool, is at around 3 parts per million and you're also gon na want to shock it about once a week. You can use a non chlorine shock and that's what I would recommend using for your pool. You don't need as much you don't need to pre dissolve it. You can just add it directly to the pool and in 15 minutes you can be swimming. So if you're gon na be shocking, your pool, which I recommend to do every single week, shock with a non chlorine shock. So if you have any questions about, you know taking care of these smaller pools, don't worry. We have a sponsor on the show, which is our own product, the pool care handbook and video course which will teach you everything you need to know about taking care of your pool whether you're new to this or you've, been doing this a while, if you're new, To this I highly recommend it: it's swim University, comm, / pool care handbook.
It is packed with about 35 video lessons and Counting, and we have a huge, fully Illustrated ebook that you can print or you can or you can reference whenever you are in doubt, you can just go to that reference guide or watch one of our videos. On starting, how many days does it take for
The 3’’ pucks to build up? 2 days in still not getting reading.
One thing we have realized with our pools over the 12 years we’ve been using them is that it’s all about investing in a sand filter and an automatic vacuum for above ground pools. We also tried the home testing route and figured out it’s way more simple to take a sample to the local pool store or Ace Hardware!
Well done. Didn't know this was a commercial until the very end.
So I have a summer wave pool and it’s 2640 gallons how much shock should I put in Bc it is a Lil cloudy right now ? I added 2lbs of alkaline increase this morning and ran it for 3 hrs thanks
Can I break my pucks down into granules? Or do I specifically have to buy granular chlorine?
Can’t believe u missed the opportunity to say “I’m a poet & I didn’t even know it” would been a double whammyyy 😂
Closer to treating a spa as far as chemical amounts

Idk why I feel like I just Ate a whole eighth of magic Mushrooms 🍄
If I am in a tropical area where I am not taking down my Intex pool, is managing calcium hardness worth doing?
Should we ignore cya? I got 900 galon bestway pool. Also what about total chlorine?if it’s a little higher than free chlorine should I just add more chlorine till they both are even and let it drop to safe recommended levels if it goes past normal levels ? N hopefully they are both even when reaching normal levels. I’m using ecoone shock/sanitize tablets since they are made to be less harsh on the skin .
Liquid chlorine or shock 15×42 Are you in Kanata ?
The bromine in my pool is high. Everything else is fine. How can I fix this?

Hey I have a intex sand filter.
Can I still shock my pool with chlorine shock, are will that mess up the filter?
What do you think about EcoOne product ? They sale shock/sanitizer tablets . Suppose to be less harsh . They also sale the ph balance ETC . Let me know . Setting up my 876 gallon bestway pool soon. They also got a conditioner
Ecoone product . Can we use it ?
With the intex easy set pools, will we be good to go with the water and treatments for the whole season? I saw somewhere else someone recommending we empty it every 2 weeks! That seems like a big waste of water!!

Hello, I got small pool with small light blue mosaic inside. I can get clear water in the pool but the water inside the filter gets light blue colour same as the mosaic after 8 hour filtering. PH and Clorum normal and using algicide. Can you tell me the cause. Can it be the mosaic tearing apart in dust particles? Or is there any kind of algae that has light blue colour?ThanksJorge Dias Service area Barrhaven??
Thank you for this helpful video! I"m very new to owning a house with above ground pool. Wondering this … mine has a vinyl liner. When I "shock" the pool I was told to be careful to not let it settle in one area. Previous owner said to dump it in the pump area. But that seems counterintuitive – won't it get sucked out rather than disperse into the pool? Do I just not understand the pump system?
What kind of chlorine do I use for my above ground pool it is 12 x 24 and 52 in deep can you recommend a brand
What options are available to shock the pool without chlorine
So if i have an above ground intex pool that is a little under 15,000 gallons I do not have to worry about calcium hardness? Every time i get the water tested it always says I need it
What do you think about a cooper 7 algaecide
OMG I wish I had watched this video years ago. It would have saved me a lot of stress. Thanks! Are you in Ottawa ?
Can someone PLEASE help me!? I have a summer waves 8 foot round pool. It gets cloudy so I drain and refill it every few days. However this is a pain in my ass. I have no idea how much chlorine to put in it. I haven’t used a filter with it bc I was told a small amount of chlorine is good enough.
Would you recommend chlorine tablets on a intex 10ft pool, if yes how much. (1,100 gallons)
My son is disable and drinks water from pool. We are using a small 86”x56”x23” pool. Please help what i should use to clean the pool. Chlorine-free shock or regular cloriex tablet??
How long do I run the filter for? We have a 1018 gallon Intex pool. Service area Nepean??
