We're getting quotes for a new heating and air system, it can be hard to tell sometimes, if a contractor is good or not. It's unfortunate that anyone would be considered bad, but in today's world, there are just too many HVAC professionals taking advantage of people. In fact, getting multiple quotes from multiple contractors can sometimes seem daunting on who to decide is good or bad. In this video, Joshua Griffin goes through five things you can use to decide if a contractor is good or bad. Use these things when deciding who did choose for your next HVAC system replacement!

And you might say, well, Josh how would I know if they do everything right? I Have a way for the first time here on our YouTube channel. Hey guys, here it is. This is a video that I've been talking about I've been alluding to for quite some time. Some of you have even requested it and it's basically a video to say how to know if a contractor is good or not.
If you're getting quotes, you're getting all kinds of contractors coming in your house. A lot of them have their own little song and dance. Some of them have sales tactics. they're going to try to close the sale and overcome your objections.
And they're in a game of selling air conditioners, right? Hear about this all night. But what's done is done Dad Are you guys going to invest or not And a lot of folks when I'm helping folks with our guides, they'll say to me it's hard for me to tell these guys are only in my house for a couple minutes. they're sending me proposals I'm going through all this information. how do I know who's good or bad in this video I'm hoping more than any video that I've done I'm hoping can help you decide if a contractor is good or bad.
I'm gonna give you five things that you can use in in this pursuit of finding a good contractor. Five things that you can use to try to decide: Is this person good or not? There's no gray area. I'm gonna find the best person that I can hire for my project. A lot of customers.
this is not a fly-by-night Easy little investment for a lot of folks. This is a large investment and they need to make a good hire. So here we go with the five things you can use to find that good one. The first one is is this contractor the best at doing something? What that something is I'm gonna be vague about but are they the best at something? In other words, if you have gotten them through Word of Mouth you've asked a neighbor or your mom or a friend, is this contractor good? Who do you use and are they any good I think that more than anything else.
So if you go for example, to a restaurant you want your mom or friend or whoever is going to tell you if it's good or not to give you the lowdown right, they're going to tell you this restaurant they've got pretty good food I Really like the steak I had I Gotta say the cornbread was really good I Wasn't expecting to get cornbread as a side but it was. It was really good. The steak I've had better. The service was good but it wasn't like the best in my opinion.
If you're gonna hire a heating and air company, you need the best. You want somebody to say this is the best company for this reason or that reason I Want to know the reason I Want to know why my mom or my cousin or my friend. whoever tells me about this company, Why are they the best? If a Google review says that this company's best, why are they the best I Want to read that I Want to read the reviews, not just look at their star rating, but why are they so good? Why? and find a company that is that good company? To me, it doesn't matter if they're big or small or any of that, it doesn't matter if their trucks are are green or blue or whatever color they are, None of that matters. Are they the best at what I'm wanting? Do they have the best warranty? Do they have the best service? Do they have the best? whatever? Whatever that is. Whatever that fill-in blank is you'll want the best, Not just somebody, that's they're just kind of good. I want the best but I'm the best ever. I'm the most brutal of Michigan most ruthless Champion has ever been. There's no one could stop me.
Number two: I Think you should put these companies to test if they're coming in your house and they all have their own little song and dance. I Tell my guys all the time it's our tap dance. Make sure you say these highlights to the customer. If you're talking to them about Griffin Air and you're telling them about what we offer.
this is our little tap dance, our little 10 second commercial, our little moment in their house to try to share with the homeowner. What sets us apart I Think you as a homeowner. if you're a consumer, you should be testing these heating and air companies. And I think there's two ways to do that.
The first way is test them right from the get-go When you made that phone call, did they answer the call or did they at least return the call And then once you got them on the phone, did they treat you well? You check to see if it was broken? I would say from the get-go as you're getting your quotes, you're putting these folks to the test for the future. If they're treating you this way, for a free estimate for a system you're about to spend thousands of dollars for at their company, they might be giving you a snapshot of what they're going to be like to deal with in the future once you've already spent the money. once they've already gotten your money and it's not necessarily as advantageous to treat you well at that point, put them to the test. The other thing when you're testing these companies and they're in your home is ask them questions.
So I actually did a video right here on the three questions you can use to ask contractors to try to compare Them Apples to Apples because again, they all have their own song and dance. They all have their own way of trying to sell the system and tell you what's great about them. One of those questions I'll go ahead and share with you now. And that is, if they're trying to sell you a certain brand, why do they sell what they sell? That's one of the questions you can ask them.
It's not what do you sell, it's why do you sell it and hear why they think they sell what they sell. Maybe they're just an employee at the company, but they still should be able to share with you. My guys at Griffinair can tell you why we sell what we sell. They can rattle off three to five sentences of why we sell what we sell, why we think they're different. Even though they're just an employee at the company, they think that they're the best and you might be saying, well, Josh your employees have an opinion on what you sell. Yeah, I Actually asked my guys, what do you think of these products? Are you happy with what we're selling and installing? And are we getting callbacks from our customers? So you should be able to ask those contractors a list of questions. Not just why they sell what they sell, but just an array of questions and see what their answers are. Compare those answers and again, put them to the test.
Number three. This one, in my opinion, is a big one in the old days. Most people were good for their word. They would shake your hand, they would look you in the eye, and they would do what they say they're going to do and for fortunately these days that doesn't happen a lot.
You've got a lot of folks that will take your money and run. Or they'll show up and do a job with half the effort or just have a sloppy installation, bad attitude. Whatever. The bottom line is, just like most: Industries there are some shady characters.
There are some less than ideal situations when dealing with some of these folks. Well, my number three thing is, do they do things in writing? Do they have? Hey, we're going to do X Y and Z Here it is in writing. Here's what happens if we don't do our job correctly. Here's what happens if warranties and all the different things that should be in writing Is all of that legitimately in writing? Not.
Did they say it to you when they came to your home? It's all about is it in writing? Are they doing things properly? Are they protecting you as the consumer? Of course, they're gonna probably have some things in writing to protect the company as well. Is this the kind of company that's going to cross their T's and Dot their eyes? Literally, they're going to have everything in writing, so that way there's no surprises and you as the homeowner, can take comfort in knowing that you're doing business with somebody that is being upfront with things and not hiding things and just doing everything on the up and up. I would use a good example. years ago, a friend of mine was in a car wreck and the other person said hey, I'll take care of it There's no reason to get the police involved I will take care of this and of course, why don't you have to tell you He ended up getting burned as soon as they drove away and the police weren't involved.
This guy went to their insurance company and said it wasn't my fault, it was his fault and there was nothing in writing. Well, heating and air contractors do the same thing. They'll say one thing to your face as soon as it's time to do the things that are right and it's not in writing. You might be unfortunately surprised I Feel bad for you I Don't think about you at all.
Thank you I Think all contractors are bad? Obviously not, but I think there are enough bad ones out there that you need to make sure that you are doing everything correctly and making sure that they are doing everything in writing. If you get somebody that has an issue with that or just kind of, we don't need to do a contract this. I'm good for my word I'm a good guy caffeine basically a brand new word for lying and they don't want to do things in writing. That might be a red flag as well. And the last thing I'll say, when it comes to providing things in writing, they should have no problem providing you with proof of insurance, proof that their licensed contractors, and just providing you in writing everything to make sure that you know that you are comfortable that they are doing everything right. Number four, do they do everything right And you might say well, Josh How would I know if they do everything right? I Have a way for the first time here on our YouTube channel. Again, we're separating the good from the bad and I have a way. If you have three contractors in your home, one of them says that they use a tool to make sure that their technicians are doing everything right.
It's totally meant to remove human error. It's meant to make sure that you as the homeowner. How many times have you heard? If you've been doing any homework on heating and air, it's all about the installer. It's less about the brand, it's less about the equipment and all about that installer and making sure that it's installed right.
Well, now for the first time on our Channel we have that tool that you can say to the contractor, do you use this and that tool is Measure Quick. Now what is Measure Quick? Measure Quick is a software tool for technicians that connects to all their Wireless probes and tools that a technician uses to diagnose and configure your heating and air system. So this isn't just New, Heating and Air systems. this is all heating and air system.
But if you're having a new one installed, this technician can use this software which analyzes and validates that all the measurements taken against the industry standards best practices to determine how well that system is running. So they've installed this system. Is it running right? Is it installed right? They now have a tool that they can use to make sure that you are covered. If your Tech uses Measure Quick, it means that they and their company are determined to do their job right the first time.
HVAC Systems can be very complex, hence why you need a trained professional to service your system. but even that professional isn't skilled enough to catch every single issue in the short amount of time that they're in your home. That's why Measure Quick was created to standardize and supercharge the measurement process so that a tech can catch everything the first time when they're on site. No callbacks is the goal.
right? When a tech completes their Measure Quick benchmarking process of your system, you will receive a vitals Report with a score of each component of your system. This is the most important thing you need to help make a decision around servicing or upgrading your HVAC system since it provides a third-party verification of exactly how your system is performing and where it needs. Improvement You'll know if something is wrong right away. So again, that company is called Measure Quick. If you happen to be a professional in the industry and you're wondering more about Measurequick, what exactly is this? I'll put a link down below so you can click that link and get more information and maybe get set up with Measurequick. But if you're a homeowner again, this gives you a way you can say to each company, hey, are your technicians using Measure Quick and you'll be able to sift through and find out if folks are having systems installed correctly right from the get-go And then finally, number five and this is another one you can test the company at and make sure somebody that you're about to hire is going to pass the test. Make sure that they're going to reach your mark and that is, do they provide good? Not just do they provide it, but do they provide good Maintenance and Service And you'll be able to test them by calling them, seeing what their reaction is, seeing how quickly they get you scheduled, see how well they take care of you, and then of course, do they provide maintenance? You might say, well, Josh doesn't every Heating and Air company provide maintenance? The answer is no, And the second part of that is, does every company provide maintenance That is worth it? Do they actually clean the system and make it as new as possible? Again, powerful. You can get long distance things in case you cannot reach all the way to the bottom of the coil.
Condenser rudely interrupted that handle eliminates the need for looking around, measuring actually check everything over to try to avoid s before they actually happen. And finally, do they have a tool in place to accompany that maintenance to make you not have hot summer days where you don't have AC or cold nights where you don't have heat. A tool that can let you know if something's wrong before it's too late. Guess what? There is now a tool that a heating and air company can use to accompany their maintenance program, but also a tool that the homeowner has installed on their heating and air system that will notify the contractor before you have that extreme case of a breakdown or something worse.
That tool is called Smart AC and again, I'm going to put a link down in the comments so you can get more information on what Smart AC is. But basically it's the best way to avoid surprise, costly breakdowns since you as the customer get notifications of any concern at real time and your contractor can monitor the technical health of the system and interpret system faults before coming to your home. The homeowner app is packed full of features such as system status filter, health status, freeze alerts, water leak alerts, breakdown risk score, and daily insights of your system and even the ability to message your service provider from within the app. Traditional maintenance plans usually require two visits to your home per year to check your system. between Seasons with Measure Quick and Smartac.com you can now ask your contractor for a maintenance plan with only one visit per year instead of two since your contractor knows exactly how well your system is performing at all times. Your technician will install the sensors in less than half an hour and check them every year to make sure they're working properly. So this Smart AC package comes with these sensors that get installed on your heating and air system and the vents and they'll notify you if something's wrong beforehand and again. I'm going to put a link down in the description so you can get more information on both of those products.
But ultimately, let's wrap up with this: I've given you five ways that you can compare. Are these contractors a lot of homeowners? This is the third largest investment they're going to make behind buying a car or their home, buying heating and air systems. When you have all of these contractors coming at you, hitting you with all this information, you now have a way to decipher who's good and who's not. You have tools that you can say to the contractor are you using this and I'm not necessarily saying if they don't use these products that they're completely bad, but with Measure Quick and Smart AC You'll know if they are using these products that they are good.
So that's it. That's my five. If you have any more, do you have something that you use to try to decipher us? If one of these contractors is good or not, please comment down below. I'd love to hear about that.

I had a Bosch central Heat pump installed last fall (to replace my old unit). Our electric company has a list of approved installers to get $1,000/ton rebate. My choice was one of the two companies that DIDN'T have a website! I wanted the guy that's going to be installing it give me the quote, not a salesman for the company showing up in a Prius and taking his cut.
