Mr. Cool HVAC are known for their DIY product line. Although they offer more than just the ductless units now, MRCOOL has the reputation in the marketplace for many homeowners to become Do It Yourselfers. Is that bad? We go through it here.
ALSO, MRCOOL LIED TO ME ON THE PHONE! They end up clearing it up, but it's interesting how little information is on the internet about Where is MRCOOL HVAC made? or Are MRCOOL units made in the USA?
Finally, check out MRCOOL's disclaimer and reviews all right here!

Are you thinking about buying or installing a mr cool heating and air system in your home, we're going to talk about that in this video, but before we do please hit that subscribe button? Thank you hey guys, so i wanted to do a video on the mr cool product line. We've had questions about it and there's all kinds of information on the internet. That is actually inaccurate. We're going to go through some of that in this video, but i did a youtube live on their website yesterday, where we read some of the reviews that are on their blog and some of the misinformation on there as well.
So if you didn't see that - and you have a moment - uh it's a little a little long - it was a live video, but definitely check that out now, if you're, a homeowner and you're thinking about the mr cool product line for your home here in the us, They're, probably the most famous brand for diyers that if somebody wants to diy, do it yourself and they want to install a heating and air system, then they would go with mr cool. In fact, on their website. They even have a product that they call their diy product, so when they first started out, they mostly only did wall hung, mini split units, ductless units and now they've grown into now. They have what they call their universal line and they provide all kinds of different heating and air equipment.
Now before we go any further. I just want to quickly say that if you are wondering, if you're thinking about being a do-it-yourselfer or if you are a do it yourself or i like most heating and air guys, don't encourage, do it yourselfing with uh heating and air stuff, not because i'm money Hungry or anything like that, it's more of a safety standpoint i have heard from folks and people have commented on my youtube channel, uh people that have said you know i've. I've put it in myself and i've had good experiences, and you know i've heard all that good stuff, but i would dare say that i've heard even more horror stories from people that tried to do it themselves didn't have the best experience. I know a lot of guys in our industry that if a homeowner were to call them and say hey, i i was a diy-er.
I put a unit in myself and now i'm having issues with it. A lot of companies won't even do work for that customer because they don't know what they're getting into. But since we're talking about mr cool, i personally i'm gon na try to keep an open, mind and point out some pros and cons of their product. Now.
First i'll say this i'll play a little devil's advocate i'll say that their product obviously can't be all bad. It can't be a hundred percent bad, like a lot of heating and air guys might want you to believe and the reason i say that is, if someone that's not a pro, can put it in and make it work, there's something to be said for that. You know it obviously isn't 100 horrible, it's just like anything else. If a homeowner can buy a product and bring it home and make it work versus you know, products out there that a pro would have to be involved. Then you know there's something to be said. For that it must be a half decent product right, but let's go ahead and dive into this a little further. The first thing i want to point out is: who makes mr cool? Do they make their systems themselves or are they just someone that distributes products with their brand on it? And i the answer to that, from what i can tell is: they are distributing uh equipment that they've either licensed the name of, or they are rebranding with their brand on it and possibly now, as time has gone on, maybe they are starting to manufacture their own Stuff overseas, but i will say this: if you, google, you know who makes mr cool or where is it made a lot of misinformation from what i can tell is incorrect on the internet. So if you, google, for example, i have right here, i googled.
Where is mr cool made and one of the first things that pops up is that they're headquartered in hickory kentucky and that you know they make all these different stuff they're, basically misrepresenting themselves in that, in my opinion, now you know you have your own opinion, but I will say that misrepresentation has bled over into some other customers, believing things that are untrue, because, as i read some of the comments that i read yesterday, some of the homeowners were commenting and saying wow. I really like them because they're made in america, and so i went ahead and called mr cool here's, a quick clip of the world that in do-it-yourself home hvac technology. We are here to make your comfort simple. If you have your party's extension, you can enter it at any time to talk to students or customer service press run for technical support to reach an operator hey.
Yes, i was looking at the website. Well, i've actually looked around on the internet and some of the websites say that the equipment is made overseas. But then the website says it's made in kentucky: it is made we are located in western kentucky, okay, but does that mean the equipment is manufactured in western kentucky yeah? Okay? So the website saying that it's made in china are incorrect, kentucky gotcha, so the products are made in china, but, mr so mr cool does not actually make the products in america. We actually have a warehouse that in is okay gotcha, so the website's incorrect when it says that it's made in america, yes got it.
Okay, all right! Well, that's what i needed to know. Thank you. Take care youtube bye-bye. I asked them directly.
Are you making these units in america? Are they made here in hickory kentucky and the lady beat around the bush, but she finally admitted that they are not made here in america, so that is incorrect, that and that information is out there. Now i'm not saying mr cool's putting it on their website and just blatantly lying, but i will say it's been very tough to find out who makes them and all that good stuff. So who makes them to answer that question from what i can tell the answer to that? Is they? It's changed uh, so over the years it might have been made by this company, and then it became made by that company, i'm being told by some of the other guys in our trade that some of the products are made by medea, which is a humongous company That manufactures lots of different products in china with different brands on them. I know other big name, heating and air brands have products that are made by them as well. I know trane has oxbox uh, you used to have a mirror star that was made by madea and then i believe carrier has some products that are also made by toshiba or media or, and then the other thing i was reading on a blog site is that Some of their products, they appear to be like armstrong units um, which, if you're not familiar with armstrong, they're one of linux's brands. All that said i'll just say most brands. You can google it. You can say hey.
You know who makes this brand. It's usually not that hard to find mr cool has done a good job of hiding that, whether that was on purpose or not, they have done a good job of hiding that you can't just google it and they just simply pop up. So that was the first thing. The next thing i want to point out is a quick disclaimer, that's on their website, and even if you go to the product that actually is called a diy unit and they've got the little diy on their website.
It's even got the little r there the saying that they've trademarked that phrase for their heating and air system, but most people when they hear diy. They assume that that means that it's a do it yourself product. You know that's what diy typically is abbreviated for, but as you go down their website - and you know here - i am on their website - you scroll down and you look at the product and all that good stuff, but almost at the bottom there's a little disclaimer there That says, notice. Mystical products must be installed in accordance with all applicable local state and federal codes and regulations, unless explicitly stated otherwise, installation must be completed by a licensed, certified hvac technician.
All electrical connections to a power source must be performed by a licensed electrician and comply with local state and federal electrical codes and regulations. So they've got this little disclaimer on there to kind of cover themselves. So if you buy it - and you put it in yourself and you have issues well, they could say look i we have it on our website right here that you should have hired a pro now, you might say: well, josh, what's the big deal, what you know, What what's the big deal, all these heating and air guys if i want to put a system in myself, what's what's so big and hard about what you do and my answer to that would be not a lot that a lot of the stuff that we do And in my opinion, once you learn how to do what we do, it's not that hard to do it. But if you don't know what you're doing like, for example, there's all these videos and websites and all this stuff on how to replace a capacitor in your heating and air system? And that's fine. If you can get your own capacitor and you want to put it in - and you know that's the problem whatever, but the problem with that is, as we move on and we're starting to get systems with dc voltage and ac voltage and all these different things you Get capacitors that can hold charge and just like a microwave, can kill somebody, because that capacitor holds charge you're starting to get more into heating and air systems that do the same thing and it's not just capacitors. I just think across the board. If you don't know what you're doing when you're dealing with refrigerants and electricity and all that stuff, you can seriously hurt yourself, burn your house down or possibly even kill yourself by installing a system. When you didn't know what you were doing now, i'm not trying to paint all this duo in gloom.
If you know what you're doing then fine, but i just think that for them to represent themselves and market themselves as a diy system and then put that disclaimer on there, that is a gigantic red flag. Now, let's talk about warranties, real quick if you're, looking at the mr cool unit versus other hvac units out there, their warranties are pretty mediocre in comparison, a lot of systems out there, that are, you, know, 10 and 12 years, their ductless unit. Here for the diy, it says on their website: it's a five year parts, seven year compressor one year remote and, to be honest with you, that's pretty small compared to a lot of the systems out there. I do know that some of their universal equipment does come with that 10-year registered warranty, which is pretty standard across the board, but again lower than a lot of the other big-name brands out there.
Finally parts: where do you go to get parts? If you have installed a unit - and now you know me as your technician, i'm now coming your house and i'm trying to repair that unit something's gone wrong. Who do i call for that? I've got a few avenues that i could try. I've never tried, but i've got a company. I can call that they're really good about chasing down parts for certain brands.
You know if something's been discontinued or things like that, but not everyone has that not everyone has a guy, you know, and then you got to call mr cool themselves and you may or may not get the part. I don't know, but i have read a lot of mixed reviews online about that i've even read where some people say. Look you know why are you worried about parts? These are throwaway units if the unit goes bad, just throw it away and get a new one. Comparing other brands, that's just odd to me.
I mentioned their reviews. If you get a chance, the best place that i have found is, if you go to their blog on their website, you'll see where a lot of their customers have commented on that blog and said. Good things and bad things, but it should be able to give you a little bit of a more snapshot of what you're seeing and it's not reviews that have manipulated or whatever it's actual comments on their blog and they're. Saying hey, you know, here's my experience. Finally, is this a good choice for your home? You know if you're looking at different systems if you're getting quotes and you're thinking about you know what is best for my home. I have heard some people say i had a guy just a couple weeks ago. He said, hey look, i put a lot of these diy type units in myself. I don't stay in a house longer than a couple years.
So then i move and it's on the next person - and i think i commented on that and said - is that the right thing to do and his response was look. You know they can get an inspector or a heating and air company to look at the unit before they buy the house. So that's on them, and so i'm not sure that's the best attitude to have, but maybe that would play a role in how you you know, decide what to do for you. If you're going to make a long-term decision versus a short-term decision, i don't know, i think ultimately, if i were talking to my own family, if i was talking to say an aunt or an uncle and they said josh, what should i do? For my home? My response to them would be have you seen any other reputable heating and air companies offering, whether it's mr cole or any other brand that they're looking at? Do you see that these really good heating and air contractors that they think that they're so great that they are installing that brand? And i think if you filter it through that lens, then you know you will probably make a better decision than if you didn't all that said, if you do have a mr cool unit or you're thinking about getting one.
Please comment down below. Let me know what you think. Let me, let me know if you've had good experiences or bad experiences with them, put a little comment below and we'll go from there, but i appreciate you watching hit that subscribe button. We'll see you next time, you.
