All right today we'll be placing a compressor on this pool heater, so this videos gon na be out sometimes some practices. We often learn something all right, so we got the heater all opened up here before we get started on any kind of work, especially with large parts like this. You want to reconfirm the diagnosis, so the one here was a shorter compressor. I went ahead and pulled off the wash to the compressor since we isolate the compressor as much as possible, and then we got the meter pulled out here at the home setting, so we're going to get started.
First, we're gon na get out of lead or meter. Go to one terminal and get our other put it to the copper. It is also ground and see it ringing out there we got a path, isn't no good! All right is going to be recovery. Got everything set up here: got my Schrader cores removed for a nice, quick, quick recovery.
There I got my scale and I need the tank scales good to do on a recovery. Just so, you know how much refrigerant you're, taking out sort of learn to use any other issues that you could have. Maybe a leak in the system as you willing to pull out small out, not refrigerator so could have it to have bed and turn this on. Complete we're gon na be replacing the lime dryer today, as well as the compressor.
We got that all sanded getting ready to cut. You try to cut as close to the compressor as we can to reuse. As much of this copper, I really am against using any kind of fittings or braze joints whenever I'm placing something just because it's less leak spots, the better so we'll get that cut off and get us out of here right. So we got this cutout here.
New line job right there, one thing I did forget to put in the video whenever we come to a shorter compressor. We also always do a an acid test on the refrigerant too well make sure we can reuse it. So I use this. It's like we're pretty good it'll turn a shade of pink.
Whenever there's a student ected we're all set to go there, we're ready to pull out this compressor and if you've ever worked on the compressor, you know how heavy it is. Luckily, I got myself a handsome helper here, if you're alone and plug in a wok some of the products out there that help you lift it out, there's that ladder lift which is pretty nifty. I personally don't have one because I was so dang strong, one out and company one in all right we're ready to braise. Here I've got my compressor sort of covered in some wet rag and then as much heat transfer as possible gets too hot.
Then the ping starts to flake off and that can turn the rust and blahdy blahdy blah sort of any of that. We're all set to go so internal. My next-gen get that flowing all right, so we're all braised up got it under pressure right now we go around with a mirror and some bubbles and both of our joints alrighty. So we're coming up to the end of our pressure test.
Here we've tested with bubbles past that got it on pressure for route 24, a minutes at 250, 8 psi. We lost about point one which is pretty good in my books, so we're gon na get started on the evacuation vacuum picked up here: cooler Hoover's back on micron gauge there, so I got it closed off right now. I actually have a secondary micron gauge on my pump, so we're gon na turn on the pump. You know make sure we got tight hoses, go to that first, all right and I'm actually going to go ahead over here. You know open up our valves. You know on this. Take the drop here he's had the vacuum on for about 20 minutes now, at 152 we got the micron gay funny one. I say we're good to close off the vows.
Do our decay test is up about 50 minutes, see where we stand and we're ready to perform a new refrigerant in about 15 minutes now hold it about 491. I think we're good to go. Let's put senior figure in there start this bad boy up all right got the refrigerant tank hooked up. I've led the refrigerant all the way to the point of the actual core remover just so are not allowing any air to enter the system ready to go here.
Put about a pound in before I put the cores back in and try not to damage my micron gauge, thereby putting too much pressure on it. So let's go ahead and add it about a pound. We're gon na crack! This a little bit come back over here. You need a tag itself calls for four pounds of refrigerant, so we took the first pound in, but the core is back in and then put the rest after that.
Alright turn this off here and put our cork back in all right. We're all closed up here, quick overview and everything we did got the new compressor installed. We got the new line, dryer installed. We got a new compressor, capacitor installed and new refrigerant everything went according to plan no hiccups.
i have an heat pump the compressor is r22 can i just change the compress to 410?
My power button on my pool heater (Hayward for inground pools) will not depress. It is just stuck, like it's jammed or something (thankfull on the off setting). What kind of repair might that be associated with? Suggestion anyone????
