Should i switch to a saltwater pool system? Well that depends on a few factors, including money check it out. First, a saltwater pool is actually a chlorine pool. Most people don't know this. The salty water in your pool passes through what's called a saltwater chlorine generator and converts that salt into chlorine, so you treat a saltwater pool the same way that you would treat a chlorine sanitized pool.

The biggest difference, though, is that you no longer have to buy and add chlorine to your pool in the form of granulars or tablets or those pucks, which is actually pretty nice. However, you do have to add a large amount of salt to the water and keep an eye on salinity levels in your pool. So it's not completely hands-off, which most people might think. On top of that, you still have to manage the ph the alkalinity, calcium, hardness and stabilizer levels.

So all of the same pool chemistry that you would normally do in a chlorine pool, you're gon na have to do for a saltwater pool as well and for some cases you may still have to shock the pool with a standard chlorine shock. But that's really only if you're dealing with an issue like algae, the saltwater system actually comes with a super chlorinate button which acts like shocking. Your pool and increasing the salt to chlorine generation, which sounds pretty good and saltwater systems, are actually pretty good and i actually recommend getting one if it fits within your budget. But it's an expensive conversion.

You'll have to install the saltwater generator directly into your pool's filter system and it'll, be the last step before the water enters back into your pool from the filter system, and you can get a small one or you can get a pretty big one. Depending on what you want, so if you want to make the upfront cost to save money on chlorine in the long run, then i say: go for it and then finally, does the water actually taste salty, i mean you are adding basically table salt to your pool, But you're only adding about 3 000 parts per million, which may sound like a lot, but actually it's really hard to taste that salt in the water. If you really try to taste it, you would actually taste it, but i actually don't recommend tasting your pool water. Hey, can I just put bran new water to brand new pool and close it for winter ? And next year I will start adding chemicals? Thx

Great vid. Can I use both salt and chlorine pucks for a hybrid approach?

I am about to renovate a pool and I have to replace the pump, the sand filter and a bunch of other stuff. If you were in my shoes, would you do a saltwater system or chlorine if the upfront cost wasn't an issue for you?

Regardless of the upfront cost, using Salt water system is actually more expensive then using chlorine pucks. The one major thing not mentioned in this video is that the cell that generates the chlorine in your salt water system need to be replaced every 3-5 years, and you guessed it it $%?&#? expensive, when you break it down it averages to $100/yr + salt + you upfront cost + the fact that most pool pump$ deteriorate 3x faster – all info that I wish someone had told me. Enjoy your summer ๐Ÿ™‚

You forgot to mention the cost in replacing equipment such as the pump, heater, lights and basically anything else that is metal when the salt will will start to corrode it at a much more advanced rate. Just about every salt water pool I have ever been to has had some kind of equipment failure due to corrosion.

Would you prefer a salt conversion or a mineral?

If you have a steel walled pool with steel liner clips, they will rust in a year or two depending on usage. Factor that in to the cost as well. Service area Orleans??

How about reviewing electronic testers like the Safedip for hot tubs Are you in Kanata ?

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ConcernedConservative says:

Cost aside, definitely Yes. My Automated system from Jandy takes care of it. I havenโ€™t needed to add Salt for years. I have however spent about 1000 in repairs over 10 years. That was two instances at 500 each time.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Viper_FPV says:

Already did itโ€™s so much easier! And saved me a ton of money. The water does taste like salen water

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jacob says:

Can you use salt with a D.E. filter?

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bunkyโ€™s Workshop says:

The equipment purchase and upkeep plus the energy to run the chlorine generator cost money. Plus you have to buy the bags of salt. I went back to the Frog leap system and just relax and enjoy the pool. Just my opinion. Lol ๐Ÿ˜‚

Would like to see a vid on using filter balls vs sand in an above ground filter. Thx
