I am not a fan of the copper coated stainless steel txv's because they always seem to have the braze joints leak.

Working on an R290 cooler and we have a leaking TXV It's bubbling all right there. This is an R290 cooler and unfortunately, because that's a copper coated stainless steel on the inside, it's not really going to take a brace because they use 15 to braise it in, but trying to patch it isn't going to work because you need 56 percent on the outside and 56 percent doesn't mix very well with 15. So you just need to change the TXV but it's bubbling like crazy. We've already tried to weld on it once and it just doesn't hold.
so it's time to change it. It's kind of a bummer because uh, I'm not going to leave it running with a leak.

yeah.. probably wise to not let that run while it's leaking pure propane into the surrounding air
who did originally the install put the proper adapter on it
DUDE thanks for explaining that!!! I found a leak on a TXV like this and I tried brazing it because tech support told me to do so (warranty call) and I was not able to no matter what the braze would not suck in so they ended up sending me another one to replace it 😆
stainlis dengan pipa tembaga .antap👍👍👍❤❤❤
Press fitting to the rescue .
I've brazed two leaking stainless TXV valve outlets in Scottsman counter top flakers.
17-0 tip, 15%. Sanded first, first try fixed both times. That's just my experience with that though.
45% blue rod then coat over with 15%
I saw this on LinkedIn Service area Kanata??
Will that orange tech rod work? I've brazed stainless with that rod. Also works on brass
yup
Man, ive run into this before as well and really was putting myself down cause i couldnt fix by rebrazing but never knew why till now. Like you i just ordered a new valve and started fresh but i had told the customer i could fix the leak and i couldnt. Thx for this info. This is stuff you dont learn from the textbooks and it will help so many people
When you go to braze in the new one stub in some1/2" and 3/8" and then just braze
with fifteen percent…
It's easier to braze with 50% at chest level as long as you're purging with a little bit of nitrogen and a cold rag
Harris 45!
Had this exact problem on an R22 system!
R290 + confined space =💥
Chris looks like a Delfield common issue leaking TXV
Just had this same exact issue on this exact unit.
Chris, not sure why you had so much trouble removing the TXV. It was so easy to install at the factory, they had no problem. So it should have been easy to remove. 🤣🤣🤣 How about if you would have added a short stub on each side of the TXV at a table and then you could connect the stubs in a more convenient location you decide to make to make the installation a little easier. Service area Ottawa??
Need that orange stuff
15 % has always worked for me at lower flame 🔥. I use Danfoss expansion valves all the time . Looks like that leak could have been caused by vibration. Good repair
Ive used 56 with 15 several times with no issues Are you in Orleans ?
45% and tec flux, I've never had an issue personally.
I've used 45 flux coated to solder over copper and steel/ss without an issue. I clean the area really well and sand down to as clean a place as possible, and it flows like butter.
Why don't you just so like everybody else and use I lighter to test for leaks lol.
Pump it up, leave the ports on. Let it run and have a cigarette…… Service area Barrhaven??
I've never messed with the stainless txvs but I have never had an issue using 56% over-the-top of 15. I have done it quite a bit on compressor braze joints that were done poorly. Are you in Nepean ?
Stainless steel with copper pipe seems like it never fail 🥶
Hated these stainless TXVs. Manitowoc ice machines used them and had to change a bunch of them.
