It's happened before. You live in a warm climate, you usually never close your pool, but a sudden Arctic blast with freezing temperatures has you scrambling to protect your pool equipment. If you don't have the time to properly close or winterize your pool, there is still one thing that you can do to prevent your equipment from freezing. The best way to protect your pool in freezing temperatures is to run your pump 24/7 Moving water is less likely to freeze, so run your pump and make sure that your water level is at least halfway up the scammer opening so that it can move throughout the pump and filter.
And if you have a heater, now is the time to use it to keep everything heated. What? If you lose power during a freeze? Well, then it's time to shut things down and quickly drain out the water from your equipment, turn everything off of the breaker, shut off any automatic timers, and remove all of the drain plugs from your pump, filter, chlorinator and heater set your filter to backwash to open up the line, and open up any filter.
