I answer Bill's question about what the proper range is for Chlorine Stabilizer. The Answer is 50ppm, but I share some more insight as to why.

Hey everybody mat from some university here. I have a question from Bill who had sent me an email and he says, he's struggling with a wide range of recommendations by pool water testing people on stabilizer levels. The literature supports an acceptable range of sign arc asset of about ten parts per million 250 parts per million. One pool water test company I use - recommends a range of 60 to 80 parts per million.

A second company recommends 80 to 100 parts per million of chlorine. Stabilizer, why the wide range of recommendations? Okay, so here's how it is 50 parts per million - is a good range anything I think, just if you just try to maintain that range, it's fine! The idea is, when you put chlorine in the water, it is burned off by the Sun. At an extraordinary rate, chlorine stabilizer actually keeps the chlorine from burning off so fast. So it's good to have chlorine stabilizer! Here's the thing you really only have to add stabilizer once at the beginning of the year test the water for cyanuric acid at the beginning of the year, put in enough siren arc acid to bring you up to 50 parts per million.

After that, you probably never have to test it ever again for sine arc acid, and the reason is, is chlorine is stabilized? The pucks that you buy or the powdered chlorine that you buy is stabilized. Chlorine shock, on the other hand, which is calcium, hypochlorite is unstabilized. Chlorine, which is why it goes in and it burns off so fast. So really when you add chlorine stabilizer to the water at the beginning of the year, the rest of the time.

Every time you add chlorine Puck's to your water, your chlorine is essentially keeping the stabilizer levels stable, find a trusted source for information, whether it's the pool guy down the street. The pool store down the street me even but stick to one set of principles. The best range fifty parts-per-million, thank you for your question bill, take care of guys and also visit. Some university comm totally forgot to mention that.

Ok I didn't add when I opened pool..been getting greenish every 10 days or so…I shock every week too. My stabilizer level is 0 or lowest on test strip. I have 20000 gallon pool wondering how much I have to put in pool. Says 1 pd per 4000 gallons Service area Nepean??

My pool gets alot of sun and my cya was 38ppm and I couldn't even keep chlorine in the pool for 24hr! I raised it to about 70ppm and now my chlorine level is staying put for about 9 days. I've read that if your pool is getting alot of sun you should have it higher than the 50ppm, is this not correct because I had real problems before I raised it to about 70ppm?

How do I add stabilizer to a best way pool

Question : If use TCCA, how many ppm, salt water.

TCCA : Cynuric Acid and Chlorine combine.

my stabilizer went to bottom of pool, dont have skimmer what should i do??

I use liquid chlorine to sanitize my pool and only supplement with tablets when necessary (but not very often. When testing my water, it looks like the stabilizer is low. Is it possible that because liquid has no stabilizer in it, I will have to add it more than once a season? I read on the bag that it will raise the ph as well. Please advise.

Does it matter what time of the day you add your stabilizer

Question — I know the best way to add stabilizer is diluted and in the skimmer. I have an Intex pool with a Krystal Klear sand filter and pump with 6” skimmer. Is through the skimmer still the best way to do it, since the skimmer is so small?

I've ordered my first pool and it will be saltwater. I've found conflicting information on if I need to add chlorine stabilizer to it online. I assume the chlorine generator in the pool is not making stabilized chlorine, and requires stabilizer to be added… Is this correct?

I had a problem with my pool I had been putting staberlizer at my pool for this year more than 5 times and it gose quickly out. Been spending lots on money in chlorine too so can any body could help me

What about salt water pools? what is the recommended CYA level? Service area Orleans??

Do you add chlorine stabilizer to your pool?

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Owen Blair says:

You’re missing the fact that if you use “pucks” with stabilizer the cyanuric acid levels will increase Are you in Barrhaven ?

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Zambie Crew says:

yeah but most people dont use cal hypo lots of people ive seen restort to sodium dichlor and that is stablized which makes the tabs and shock both stablized inscreasing the amount of cya in peope pools …. and to much cya renders the chlorine

Thank you for this video!!!! I hv a low stabilizer issue since its 100+ degrees outside here!!! I though shocking the water brings it up. Or is it just a temp fix that puts the chlorine levels high for a minute?

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Danny C says:

How to add cyanuric acid to your pool with cartrage filter? I have a vinyl liner.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Asplund says:

I added 6 lbs of stabilizer to my 16,000 gallon pool in April after it was filled which gave it a reading of 50ppm. Last night it tested at about 20ppm and its July and not holding chlorine more than a day. So adding it more than once in a season is common in Texas! Added 2 lbs to see if we can get it to 50ppm and to stay on the cautious side because once its in you cant get it out! Water evaporates extremely fast in 100 degree humid weather plus you need to consider splash out and water loss! Bottom line if your adding water to your pool weekly your gonna lose stabilizer!

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mark Vandrell says:

Ah but I'm not using chlorine pucks or tabs, it's liquid clorine which probably doesn't contain stabilizer. If this is the case you might want to check mid season to keep it at that 50 ppm especially if you had to add water to the pool.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Christina says:

    This video helped a ton!
When opening my pool my cya levels were zero. I need to add CYA stabilizer in order to get a 30-50 reading. Well, I never added it. Now seeing this video the reason my free cholorine levels were sucked up so fast after doing the shock is bc of not adding in the stabilizer. So my question is! I have 3,754 gallons in my pool. How much of the stabilizer do you think I should add? Thank you Are you in Ottawa ?

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Derek Toms says:

I have always used granular stabilizer but have been thinking about using liquid because it will dissolve quicker But I cannot find out how much liquid would equal 1 pound of granular so I dont know how much to add as my pool test shows I need to add 2 pounds?

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Matthew Wood says:

I find that a lot of people recommend high stabilizer levels due to the expense of the chemical. Here in Australia many people use Liquid Chlorine instead of stabalized shock chlorine which is un-stabilized, i agree Matt 50 is perfect and if you do add stabilized chlorine it is "stabilized" the only reason too add stabilizer is a massive loss of water like rain fall.

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steven S says:

I have been wondering this as well. I have a saltwater setup and have been at 80 – 90 PPM. Thoughts?

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Darrel Barnett says:

If you have 50ppm and then service pool with dichlor or tablets the stabilizer level will raise?
