Algie is one of the most disgusting organisms that can invade your pool after water, bugs, of course, those things are disgusting, but when it comes to pool ownership, few things are worse than heading out into the backyard for a nice swimming and finding a bunch of green Stuff, so you may be thinking: what's the big deal, I'll just throw some algaecide in there and it'll all be chilled daddio daddio well before you spend money and pour a bunch of algaecide in. Is that really the best method to cure algae? Is it isn't? Is it the best way? I don't I don't know, I don't know all right. I have a better idea, and I'm gon na tell you about it right now, after this intro all right, quick disclaimer, everyone has their own way to maintain a pool just like we all have our own personal truths, but in the end our goal is to just Help you, the information in this video, is based on my personal experience in the pool industry and the research that we've done here at swim, University, calm and I'm sorry if I missed anything. But if I did, please leave a comment, and let me know, and also to help your fellow pool owners out all right.

So you can get three types of algae in your pool, green yellow, which is also called mustard, algae and black, the worst and most difficult to remove. Now I know algaecide sounds like something that will kill algae. Just like pesticide kills bugs so many air quotes and it actually does to a degree, but here's the problem, the active ingredient and algaecide. The thing that actually kills algae is usually copper and what eventually happens the copper? Well, it exceeds it basically rust or in coppers case it turns green, like the Statue of Liberty.

Yes, the Statue of Liberty used to be a shiny, copper color, since she's made of about 30 tons of it. So what happens if you put copper in the water and it oxidizes well, can actually stay in your pool and what, if your pool water already has a high metal content? Maybe you fill your pool from some sort of high metal water source? You will get even more oxidation, which means even more staining, and you could just fix that right. Well, normally to treat high metal content in pool water and to keep it from staining your pool. You need to use a metal, sequestrants metal molecules together so that they won't stain your pool, and so they can be removed by your filter and there's a problem if algaecide stains your pool and then you use a sequestrants prevent staining you're.

Removing the outer side from the pool, so you need to add more outer side, and then that means you have to add more sequestering. Then it means you have to add more I'll decide and then you have to add more sequestering and then you have to add more algaecide. So, while you're sounding like a broken record, that algae is just watching and laughing at you, while it continues to make itself comfortable in your pool, not to mention you're, also wasting a lot of money and time. So there is a better way and the answer will shock you, because the answer is shocking.
No, I mean it's literally shocking your pool with a high amount of chlorine that will actually kill algae dead. So here's what happens. Chlorine attacks algae at the cellular level by oxidizing it, which means removing some oxygen from it and algae, cannot live without oxygen, and neither can we so the cell walls rupture and then, when that happens, algae stops, growing and reproducing, and then it's done it just dies. So shocking, the hell out of your pool will take care of any algae problem.

However, depending on the size of the problem, you may need to double or even triple shock your pool, but at the end of the process the algae will be dead and you'll be able to vacuum all of that algae that dead algae out of your pool. If you want more information, please check out our other videos on shocking, a pool and getting rid of algae, and you can just see more in-depth tutorials on literally how to do this. The best way to fight algae is to keep it from coming and to keep it from forming in the first place. To do that, you need to keep your chlorine level at 3 parts per million at all times and if you use another sanitizer same thing, bromine pools keep that level between 3 parts per million and 5 parts per million and for McGwire, 9 or Bach wasilla pools.

You want to keep the level between 30 parts per million and 50 parts per million Algie at bay. Proper sanitizers are only half the weapon. You need to keep your pools ph between seven point, four and seven point: six for the algae, fighting powers to really be effective and by the way, if you go swimming or you take toys into a natural body of water like the lake or the ocean, you Want to make sure that you senate eyes everything before you put it back into your pool, because algae is notorious for hitching, rides on swimsuits and pull toys, and just because you can't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist ominous. But true all that said, I do recommend using algaecide for specific purposes like closing your pool and when you close your pool, adding some algaecide to the water can help.

Keep you from finding a nasty surprise in your pool when you open it back up next season and I'll decide is a good backup solution when you don't have enough chlorine or sanitizer in your water to keep the algae away. If you want to use outside as a backup, I recommend avoiding copper-based algaecides and instead look for a poly quat algaecides. If you see a bottle, labeled algaecide sixty get that. Okay.

I had a cloudy water and visited our local Leslie swimming pool shop! Told them that I have a birthday party in a month and need to get it clear!
Needless to say I spent hundreds of dollars!
So our pool was still cloudy but after the birthday party! I used flock..
Shocked the pool then added flock, turned pump off after 2 hours and the next day everything was laying on the bottom! Could see for the first time!
Shock is awesome but just use flock and vacuum to waste with sand filter!
These sales commission hacks took me for a ride..
    Shock, Flock, is the way!

I recently started looking after a friends pool..it had been neglected for about 1 month so pretty dirty and low water level… lots of pine tree pollen had gotten into the water and no matter what I did, I could not get rid of it.. turns out I now had an yellow algae bloom.. What I did was use a flocculant, I let run thru the system for a couple of hours then turned off the pump, next day after bringing the water level way up high I vacuumed to waste..I had to do it 2 or 3 times but now everything is perfect..ph good, chlorine good, and after cleaning the pool I add an antialgae. The whole process took about 5 weeks to straighten out. I have never looked after a pool before.. You should have seen me trying to get the air out of the hose the first time.. I actually got into the pool..lol

Dear sir, i enjoy your tutorials and sharing your knowledge.

I maintain a condomenium pool. We are using Diatomaceous Filters as mode of filtration.

The duty Filters run 24 hours.

    A. Chlorine level between 1 to 3ppm.
    B. Ph level and alkalinity level is in ideal range.
    C. The filter elements are replaced not long ago.
    D. The mosaic tile pointings/ groutings are well intact.

For somewhat reason, the water just doesn't look crystal clear. Looks slightly blurry but can see pool floor.

May i know how to improve water clarity and what can i look out for sir?

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Y. Lee says:

Municipal water uses chemicals to get drinking water in your pipes safe and drinkable. Pool water is the same and no different. Algaecide is cheap & more effective vs only Chlorine against algae, but if you are getting stains, then youre adding way too much of it. No more than .2 ppm. City water uses copper sulfate to control algae in lakes, municipal etc, enough said. that's why there's (a tiny amount) of copper in the water system, (aside from natural ground water etc.). Chlorine is primarily used as a disinfectant. Service area Nepean??

I agree on shocking sir but you forgot one important thing BRUSHING AFTER SHOCKING always shocking only kills some of the algae and bleaches the color out of the rest but if you brush at the same time as shocking and adding algaecide way better results been in the business for 39 years from building to servicing pools all kinds brushing brushing people dont ever brush ther pools enough that would stop 90 percent of all problems just brushing thanks for the video be safe and wash your hands ✌🖖

What next please HELP!!! have not been able to use the pool yet this year fighting this back and forth three times now. Thanks in advance

  50. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joe says:

Never buy algaecide. I have no idea how in the world it still exists. It’s a useless product. This video is 100% correct. Shock your pool is you have algae (preferably with liquid chlorine). Don’t introduce any weird chemicals into the water if you don’t have to. Then follow the BBB method and you shouldn’t ever have to shock the pool again if you brush it and keep the water flowing with proper filtration. You may still need to shock if you open the pool late in the season, and it’s a good idea to do so when closing. But if you’re paying attention to pool chemistry and putting some work into keeping the pool clean you shouldn’t have to shock it while it is open.
