This was a service call on a True reach in that was not maintaining temp. I found that the unit was totally iced up and someone had installed the wrong temperature controller in the unit.

True stand up cooler, working families, nice. What do you know? Someone who's taken? The toil sensing temperature controller out of the market with an engineer sexy one, which is a problem now this would work if they install the defrost clock. So, let's see what we got here from the looks of it, it doesn't look like they install the defrost clock is own, don't know if that's the only problem, we're gon na check it out and see no defrost clause in there. That suppose, and not the big picture, the door tracks are broken.
Let's see, the toilet selfish was damaged beyond belief. We're definitely going to happen just taking this apart, so I can defrost it and it's nuts how much ice is inside hey. I have to put a pan under the boxing it forward over there little drain grate right there and I'm using the water hose and just making sure I'm not making a mess. Do it nice and slow.
You can't rip down on this drain pan, because this is actually not the drain. Pan there's another one underneath there, that's just that styrofoam that it's glued to so this has to come out like if it doesn't come out. It's frozen and you'll rip the drain. Pan off, when you pull this cover off, so this thing is totally defrosted now got to make sure you can't just look at the coil, because it was iced up all the way on the side, all the way in that side or it's only being frosted, and This thing was really dirty to it, lint, but obviously having a door closed.
An issue blew the drain out since I had the hose and that I pulled the front and then stir cover it's important to you that I have this cover on, while others defrost in it. So all the water didn't get into that switch and everything. But I clean the condenser while I have the hose just blew it out real, clear in stout the rails, the box as best as possible or so little birdie. This is our cooperative else talking about Orion fans, so this is the cover.
But if you just yank down on that you'll pull this drain pan right off of this glue, so you don't ever want to do that, so I'm starting to put the drain pan back in but before I did that since I had it off. I just ran a leak detector, all along the coil, just to make sure I don't even have gauges on here yeah, but I had it apart. So might as well. It's really easy, so I'm just putting the screws in one by one.
Hopefully, there's no damage to that motor; it did get wet. Sometimes you can't avoid that. It is what it is so we'll see and temporarily. I'm gon na have to put their temperature controller back in because I don't have the factory one, but part of my quote will be putting the factory controller back in this box.
So we're just gon na temporarily wire it back up the way that it was and then check out the rest of the system. So, like I said, I temporarily put their thermostat back in. I've got the unit running right now and I'm going to want to come down in temperature. If I don't see a noticeable difference in 10 minutes, then I'm gon na go to apply service gauges to this unit. This is a sealed system. It has a very small refrigerant charge, 10 ounces of 134a. So I don't want to put me into something there unless I absolutely have to so like I said, I'm gon na watch it for about 10 minutes and see if I see a 10 to 15 degree, temperature drop within those 10 minutes or so. And if I don't, then I'm gon na put the service gauges on it.
So, no matter what I set this temperature controller at it either gets way too warm or way too cold. We shouldn't be getting a 22 degree return air temp in this box, all right. So this was a service call on a true reaching cooler that wasn't working properly and, like you guys saw in the video. What I found was that the unit was totally frozen up: okay, a giant block of ice inside the box.
What had happened was the previous person contractor had installed the air sensing temperature controller, so they did not use the factory control and when they did that they did not install a defrost clock. Okay, so these true regions, if you don't already know they come factory installed with a coil sensing temperature controller and what that coil sensing temperature controller does. Is that maintains temperature inside the box? But then it also has a built-in defrost into the control, and you know by design basically, okay, because it's embedded in the evaporator coil whenever the evaporator quote satisfies or the temperature controller satisfies it will not turn the box back on and tell the evaporator quote, gets To a certain temperature, okay and usually what they do is they make that temperature, like 39 to 40 degrees into that control? Okay, so the control does that because it's embedded in the evaporator coil, it's sensing more of an actual evaporator temperature versus just a box temperature. Okay, so when the the previous contractor had installed the air sensing temperature controller, the aftermarket control, it worked, but it didn't have any defrost anymore, okay and then, on top of that, the Box.
The door does not closed on its own on the box and that was causing you know warm air to intrude into the box and ate it in the unit ice. You know okay, so what I did was I defrosted the box confirmed that the temperature controller itself is actually bad found all the problems with the box. It needs new casters, it needs a new door, it needs a new temperature controller and I submitted a quote to the customer so once they approve that we'll go back out, we'll put a new, you know, put everything back on the box and get it operating back To factory specs, okay on this particular one, I did not see a need to put service gauges on it because it actually came down to temperature. So you know we'll just keep an eye on it and that's pretty much it okay right now! You should see some other channels that I recommend you guys check out.

I'm having the same problem with 2 of my true reach in chiller. Last tech installed aftermarket ranco t-stat apparently it was air sensing one. My question is can you just tie the coil sensing bulb directly to the evaporator coil itself cant find where to place it.
i don't think your correct on this one… you don't need the OEM thermostat.. hell there not reliable at all.. i always put aftermarket.. or slap on some electronics..

good points! the air sense temp controller is only fit for bigger refrigeration system or walk in, because such small box, temps is very easy to be affect when you open the door, so that keep the compressor running, ice up the evap coil eventually if it doesn't carry a defrost device. its fine to put a A19bbc2, but no clock wtf this guys was thinking ….. i repaired some of those true freezer and most of the time they are in such a bad shape its insane how customer dont care about their stuff

Make sure you check the capillary well. So many of those wells are loose, not making good contact with the coils, or in those hack cases like you found the old capillary can be rusted and stuck in the well! I usually coil a control into a bulb in those cases. However on T49s True only has electronic control replacements. Did you have to order them a new door?

From my point of view being a restaurant owner this is the kind of crap that gives your industry a black eye. I'm guessing you're going to put about 800 plus into that thing in parts and labor, not counting what they paid the butcher the first go round. Between the cost of the butcher job the first guy did and now what its going to cost them to have someone like you do it the right way they could have bought a new one. A new one would probably run about 1200 – 1300 The last guy didn't even bother to clean the condenser let alone fix the unit correctly.

On a sealed system does ut have gauge ports or do you have to install them? To me with all those black marks on the back wall and door the customer looks to be jamming product in there maybe keeping the door from closing correctly. Good video

Being that you run your company, how do you handle non paying clients. Especially larger companies where you are carrying there debt for 60-90-120 days plus or longer.
Have you had success in handling this type of issue with out loosing the costumer? Have you put additional agreements into a contract when you started with them?
I have been watching my boss bite the bull it on several large name clients and started thinking my self how would I handle things.

Service tech these days are butcher mechanics, techs take your time and look at the whole picture and see what is causing the problem. You are getting paid to fix not butcher it.
Omg that's ridiculous. I know how much work this was. Good job. Sometimes when I'm too rushed I tell the customer I'll come back the next day and let it defrost on its own.

I find the same "fix" at gas stations all the time. It's one thing to slap the wrong control in to get them going through the weekend or until the part is available but too many are slapping in half assed repairs and riding off into the sunset Are you in Barrhaven ?
